"It's gonna come down to who is the best defensive player."
---Coach Barnes

The light needs to come on quickly for those big guys who've been watching the game from small chairs.

Feel really bad for him. He has steadily been developing. Could tell something was off when he was injured, but to be a season ender is a bummer.

Hopefully Fulky picks it back up and we find what we got with the young guns

Pardon the upcoming Disney "happily ever after" sentiment, but how cool would it be for such a beloved Tennessee player to write the end of his story by returning to prominence and leading his team to the Sweet 16 after practically benching himself due to another unfortunate footnote in his career of bad luck?

Fulky has been coming on a bit, lately, and the rest he's received over the past couple weeks may be the prelude to the one last run he has in him. I'm pulling for the guy and the opportunity is certainly there.

We have to find a way to get Fulky producing in some manner. Part of it is confidence because he’s not where he used to be. As of now, we have no true post player that can produce in a certain capacity so we need to find ways to get production as a committee to help our guards out a little bit.
Anything close to the Fulkerson that played in the Arizona game would be greatly appreciated.

I'm really hoping it was just a bout with Covid that threw him out of sorts for a few weeks. Now we need him to return back to form and finish his career in style. Hate for him to go out on a whimper. He has meant alot to the program. And usually seniors tend to turn it up a notch when they sense the end is near.

I've never seen one human being on the floor as much as Fulky ..im talking falling down ...you walk by him he falls .... and he has no strength in his hands and arms ... he has regressed so much .. sad ..I think covid really has affected him in the worst way.......BHH and Aidoo need to step up FAST
Was thinking the same thing as well. One thing to fall hustling for a loose ball, but he just doesn't have the physical tools to give this team quality mins game to game. Hope that changes. Wouldn't surprise me to see JJJ play the middle in spot situations.

The one player we have that can elevate their game is James, he has shown flashes lately of taking his game to a all around higher level. ZZ is playing well, KC and Vescovi are both capable and need to put up good solid numbers. Plasvic has to continue to get better, he is playing well right now. Fulky has to step up and be solid now. We need Powell to continue to look for his shot and be aggressive but make good passes. Both him and Bailey are capable of giving us good minutes. Powell is the best pure shooter on the team. We are really going to have to concentrate on rebounding well. KC needs to quit turning down so many good looking shots. Sometimes he makes good move and in good position for a shot around the free throw line and decide at last second to make a pass. Now sometimes he makes a good pass, but sometimes he would be better taking the 10-12 footer. I love KC’s game it’s just little things that get him in trouble once in a while. Sometimes he dribbles to much and makes errant passes. But he makes so many good plays and you can see he is coachable and he us improving. I love his high bank runner, he needs to keep developing them off the glass shots as well.

I agree with Woodlawn. I thought JJJ had a really good game against South Carolina. He can play multiple positions and his defense is good. I really feel like his offensive play has improved and that is a huge lift for this team. I hate losing Nkamhoua but like so many people have mentioned...next man up. Go Vols!

I'll be interested to see if increased minutes for BHH allow him to match Olivier's numbers. I would think he can but may not play defense as well. Also curious to see Aidoo maybe get 8-10 minutes a game. Olivier has had some bright moments this season but he's also had some moments when you wonder how he got a scholarship. Just a few games ago vs LSU he had basically as many fouls and turnovers as he did points, rebounds and assists combined. His game vs Arizona wasn't a whole lot better. So hopefully it's not a crippling injury to the team as we've gotten our best wins when he was struggling.

Need Fulky to hit his stride, his shot is starting to fall again which is good to see. BHH will get more minutes and we might even see Aidoo some more. We will go small a little more which hasn’t been a bad thing for this team, having JJJ is such a luxury for the defense.

The development of ON reminds me of a post player we once had named Brandon Crump. Just a linear progression of a pretty fundamentally sound player starting from raw underpowered FR, to mostly frustrating SO bc you could see the potential, then on to JR producer but below what was needed, then boom put it all together for a Sr campaign that made him an All SEC type who ended up drafted to the NBA after avg 16-17pts/ game as a team leader

Get well soon young man. Get ready to make the big splash in 22/23'!

This suggs but thankfully our team has a ton of depth that can step up.

Powell will be starting in place of Nkahmoua, it will be:
Chandler
Vescovi
Powell
James
Uros

Outside shot they go with Fulk at the 5 but it most likely will be Uros, Barnes loves ZZ coming off the bench.

Appears they’ve been trying their best to give Powell more minutes but Powell hasn’t taken advantage. His rebounding hasn’t impressed for being 6’-6”. Too many turn overs and defensive lapses have limited his court time to date. Hopefully him or somebody else will break out with expanded pt. This is where I’d be saying Ticket if he hadn’t transferred.

Powell actually has one of the best a:to ratios on the team

Then why hasn’t he established a solid role still in your opinion?
Early on defense definitely struggled, he’s gotten better in that area…he doesn’t/hasn’t moved well without the ball to get himself open, Vescovi & JJJ have been better options, his chances/opportunities/leash should definitely increase.

Agree with all this except the TO-propensity. I don't feel like he's real careless with the ball, but he was recently vs Texas A&M, so there may be some subconscious recency bias, there.

The rebounding is odd because he was a great rebounder in his 10 games at Auburn, last year, averaging 6.1 rpg in 27.6 minutes, and that was primarily from the PG position. He's only averaging 1.7 rpg in 17 minutes, this year, and typically from the SF or big wing position. It really is confusing. Maybe an increase in minutes will also generate more continuity for him and he'll get in the flow more.

Honestly, if he isn't going to hunt his shot more, then if he could become focused on rebounding (we know he's capable), that could become his calling card. He's not a great defender, but he can shoot, pass, and rebound. Focus on those things and try to hide him on defense. The good news is that maybe he will draw the assignment of guarding a slower opponent instead of another guard, at times.
