NLDS: Braves vs. Giants

Ok, so is Heyward EVER going to learn that he has to swing if it's close?

He's an f-ing rookie and just because every adult in Cobb County got on their knees for him growing up, MLB umps won't until he proves something.
First of all, he's from Henry County; not Cobb. Second of all, I agree that he takes too many pitches, but Paul Emmel was just awful behind the plate tonight (to go along with the blown calls in game 1 and game 2). He squeezed Sanchez and Hudson early in the game and then went Eric Gregg in the bottom of the 9th inning. Nobody had any idea where the edge of his strike zone was.

All I'm saying is that he got called out looking on two bad strike calls in the first two games. So, when you've got 2 strikes on you you have to protect yourself and make sure it's you who determines whether or not you go down, not the crappy guy behind you. Granted, he's played awful so far so I'm sure he's a little hesitant.

Definitely not hating on the guy because I love to watch him play, just wish Terry would ask him to take some defensive hacks, especially down 1 in the bottom of the 9th in the playoffs.

This is on Cox, not Conrad. Conrad didn't write his own name in the lineup today. Even my wife knew it was a stupid move when she saw him in the starting lineup four hours ago.

It's absolutely perplexing. I'd even understand Diory Hernandez playing everyday at this point. How many times do you have to see something before it dawns on you that it's a trend?

Friend of mine keeps burning up my cell phone with texts about how Brooks Conrad is an idiot, sucks, etc etc., and I keep telling him, at some point it's Cox's responsibility to figure out that Conrad can't be on the field. The unearned runs Conrad caused tonight are pretty much textbook examples of definition-of-insanity behavior by Bobby Cox.

Jonathan Sanchez is a tad bit filthy.

Bumgarner on the bump next... beat him and run into Timmy. Oughta be interesting

I still don't understand pulling Kimbrel. I don't think San Fran had 1 good swing against him in the 9th.

Plus, Huff hits lefties well so there was really no advantage in bringing in Dunn. I'd have rather just took my chances with our filthiest reliever. What an awesome sports weekend...fml.

Sadly, I have to agree. It doesn't change my opinion of Conrad though. He cannot be the best option. Glaus and Hernandez combined couldn't commit this many errors. One of them might do something at the plate outside of a pinch hitting role too. Bobby must want to retire a week or more earlier than he should. One of his greatest strengths as a manager, loyalty to his players, is also a major flaw... Wake up, Bobby! Conrad is not good!

Conrad isn't supposed to be any good. He's a career minor leaguer. He's supposed to be about the sixth infielder, the guy way down at the end of the bench who gets about 100 plate appearances all year. Even Mrs. Conrad doesn't think he's any good. It's not his fault that Cox keeps sticking him out there over and over again.

The loyalty to his players has always been a two-edged sword. It's too bad that it's shown up again so glaringly in the last games of Cox's career.

Pretty sure that having the 2nd baseman, 3rd baseman, #3 starter, #5 starter and closer all go down in a 6 week period is God's way of saying "not this year".

So does he simply slip Hernandez in at 2B or does he roll the dice on Glaus or Hinske playing 3B . . . or does he just go completely nuts and put Glaus at 3rd and Hinske in LF?

I understand. That is why I only want him to have his butt kicked instead of having him become processed cat food. Perhaps I am too harsh. Lol.

Props to Conrad for facing the media. I wouldn't have blamed him for ducking out after tonight. You can't help but feel bad for the guy.

"It's completely embarrassing," said Conrad, who has eight errors in the past seven games. "I feel absolutely terrible right now. I wish I could just dig a hole and go sleep in there."

I'm sure he feels worse than anyone. Personally, For Brooks Conrad the human being, I have nothing against the guy and wish only good things, but I'm not sure if I could resist destroying a Brooks Conrad baseball card if I ever saw one.

Think that's what I'd do, but of course I have no real idea whether Hinske or Glaus could handle 3B better. Depends on what the Braves think about that.

(Of course, given that Conrad's been the starter over and over and over despite his troubles, you have to figure that the answer to that is probably "the Braves don't think either of them can handle 3B.")

Yep . . . It still sucks just as much this morning as it did last night.
