No “God Bless the USA,” “In God We Trust,” on school posters.

I was going to say just teaching the proficiency test.

LOL My kids have had some great teachers. And a couple real slackers too. It becomes apparent quickly which type a teacher is.

The best teachers have generally (but not always) been the ones teaching the advanced classes. Maybe it's experience or maturity.

Case in point: I had a substitue come to my class one day and when I returned I discovered he had preached his beliefs and basically gave his testimony to them all. That's a "no-no" in Texas public schools. I then find out he was Church of Christ and made comments about me being Catholic and the Catholic faith in general. Apparently, I'm not going to heaven according to him. That's a "no-no" with me.

If a liscensed teacher cant do it, some substitue has no right to.

This is certainly not what should be going on in schools. I don't see any reason to have prayers in school but I don't see any reason to ban any mention of God or any prayer (e.g. before a football game) either.

Religion is part of life so it can exist in school settings, it just shouldn't be part of the school curricula.

Says you. I know plenty of people who will tell you that God is absolutely factual.

And they would be professing a belief. Not a fact.

And that's ok.

We better take the THEORY of evolution out of the schools as well as all fiction books.

You obviously were sleeping during class if you haven't seen scientific proof of evolution.

So when did the theory of evolution, the big bang theory, people coming from apes become fact?

I dont really care either way, but can anybody argue that the condition of our schools is better now, compared to when prayer was in schools?

"I am afraid that the schools will prove the very gates of hell, unless they diligently labor in explaining the Holy Scriptures and engraving them in the heart of the youth."
Martin Luther
(has also been attributed to Martin Luther King.)

The important legal principle here is first amendment rights, if the students want to use those terms on their posters, then they should not be denied that right.

We have all sorts of schools named "Martin Luther King" school, are we to ban all his quotes in those schools that have anything to do with religion or the Gospel??

Secular Humanism is a religion to some and they are able to promote their beliefs in our schools.

On a personal level, I have always thought it to be silly to push christianity so hard in schools.

In my opinion, this is one of the biggest reasons why the church has fell out of favor in our society because we want every one else but the church to witness to the lost.

Again, my stupid silly opinion.

i agree it is stupid and silly.

have you thought that by not praying in school, it could be the reason we have some of the highest teenage pregnancy rates in the nation, why some school have metal detectors everywhere. why some teachers teach behind bullet proof glass. why we have the highest drop out rate in our history. that teachers having sex with students is becoming the norm.

maybe they need something radical like saying a little prayer. it can't hurt.

what proof? exactly there is no proof, just theory that is accepted by scientist who are afraid to even reconize the posibility of a designer.

do you disagree that our public school system is in this state?
I have to assume the public school system in your state is in your state. Why would I think otherwise? You aren't talking about a foreign public school system are you, like Alabama or Kentucky?
