I'm not advocating some slippery slope here. I'm simply saying that I understand and that this isn't some earth shattering suppression event.
For the record, yes there are some militant style shirts that shouldn't be worn in our public schools. Drawing the line is difficult, but you can't be cool with throwing out Che because he's offensive then gripe that the flag isn't.
from a guy who went to public school in southern california, i can ensure you i would not have worn a US flag if i thought it would seriously piss off the mexicans at the school. not unless i had a death wish.
Ergo the principal taking the action he did. He was objectively wrong to do so, but it is apparent what he was worried about.
On the other hand, the students were objectively correct to have been wearing the flag, while their own subjective motivation was poor.

I wonder what your opinion is of the fact that anyone is free to desecrate the flag including burn it in this country. The First Amendment allows for it, so why is it not ok for someone to wear the American Flag on a shirt, even if it is to protest another flag or someone's heritage?
Cinco De Mayo isn't even celebrated in Mexico, in the US it's just an excuse to get drunk.
