Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2024-25

just cause she showboats, or taunts, or trash talks?
Yes, because she does it in derision of other players, sometimes her own teammates. Said earlier, for every taunt there's a taunted. Do you think anyone enjoys being in a viral video of Angel doing this to them as her latest "passion' statement? Celebrate yourself if you must, but not at the expense of other players.

Not sure what Angel's done to earn everyone's wrath, other than some comical trash talk and OTT celebrations. Seems her teammates and coaches love playing with her, and she's always extending a hand to help opponents up off the court.

Reese knows that the cameras are right there when she's helping opponents up. If we're going to take the "seems" approach, it sure seems that she takes (and creates) every opportunity to get maximum exposure, at least when the tv cameras are present.

As far as her teammates are concerned, I've noticed a couple appearing to have a stone-faced, disinterested expression when Reese is pulling at their arms, issuing instructions, gesturing wildly, etc. I've had the misfortune to play a few times with such bossy players in small-time, amateur league games without real coaches, and it was a hold-your-temper, grit-your-teeth experience. I would be very surprised to learn that there aren't some LSU players who resent her attention-grabbing antics. That's what they pay Mulkey to do. I would also be surprised if Ms. Reese didn't get deferential treatment from her coach.

For anyone claiming that fans' negative reactions are due to "demographics," they obviously weren't paying attention to the forum reactions to Cameron Brink, who is in an entirely different longitude from Reese demographically.

It’s just not adding up for me, I’m sorry. We can just agree to disagree but every time someone tries to take a jab at here for her antics, I’m going to say something. She was doing the exact same thing at Maryland….nothing, now that she’s in our backyard, she’s seems to have became public enemy number 1. It’s just weird.

I couldn’t stand Sophie due to some of her behavior. But she wasn’t our Sophie either. Jordan and Rickea got some fire and it doesn’t bother me at all! 😉

I'm probably one of the few here who actually liked Cunningham (most of the time). If I remember correctly, seems that most of the criticisms here were about her whining and "dirty" play. I remember some hard elbows, but I also saw Cunningham giving 100% effort on every play and being willing to sacrifice her body to take charges, dive after loose balls, set screens, whatever it took. I don't remember her constantly taunting or demanding to be the center of attention.

Cunningham also remained incredibly loyal to her home state school and team. And I can never recall her easing up in any game we played against her no matter the score. I have seen Reese loaf back on defense, and appeared mentally whipped toward the end of the SC game although she did continue to drive the lane and put up shots.

Do y’all know Angel personally or…..maybe I’m missing something here.
You're missing that it's not personal. You're the one extrapolating what we're seeing oncourt onto the players' personal sphere. I can like or dislike many players oncourt play and/or behavior and have zero thoughts about them personally.

It's like any public entertainment figure - I can think an actor or singer sucks majorly and forget they exist personally.

She played the game right in my opinion…still didn’t like her. 😏

I mean the girl can’t even get fired up or help teammates off the floor, hold them accountable during the game without being called self absorbed or, “doing it for the cameras” come on now! 🥴😂

I am extrapolating what we’re seeing on the court onto the player’s personal sphere and so are you, you called her self aggrandizing and obnoxious for her in court play…..and I think it’s passion and trash talk. Which is okay to some and looked at as….obnoxious and self absorbed to others

When her social media post went viral regarding her passion, it was very easy to go through the comments and see which demographic was in support of her and which ones had a problem with it.

Maybe her teammates expect their multi-million-dollar coach to hold them accountable, not the self-described Bayou Barbie.

If there are several more LSU losses this season, we'll see how well her behavior goes over when she gets in teammates' faces on TV. We may already have seen it if some of those narrow home escapes hadn't worked out in their favor (aided by some extra help on the court).

..to which they are prone.

Self aggrandizing and obnoxious IN COURT play. Right. But never personal. I have no info or right to comment on off court personality and never would, no matter how many times you say it. If you can't separate on court from off then do you. But don't assume others must also do the personal.

And again, demographic profiling is not cool.

Wow, made the unfortunate decision to view an LSU forum called tigerdroppings……in the game thread for the S.C./LSU game which was over 500 posts long, I saw Over 3 dozen posts calling CDS everything from a bitch, c*nt, racist, thug, trash, ghetto girl, wh*re and the like. What a cesspool. Apparently an appropriate name for their forum because it smelled just like droppings. Anything goes over there, just awful. My best friend is an ER doc originally from La., salt of the earth guy, so I am not throwing shade on people from La., but that forum is pure droppings to be sure, no mods apparently.

This right here. If Reese, Cunningham or (God forbid) Taurasi played for Tenn, they would be fan favorites for their “passion” and “big personalities”

Not with me. Confession: I never really liked Kara Lawson as a player, same reason. Great player, but she made me roll my eyes.

None of our present players do anything in the strasophere w AR. In fact, except for JH getting frustrated w herself and occassionally the refs, they barely ever change expression. If they're doing it, I don't see or hear it which is all I ask LOL.

Sorry to hear the LSU forum is a racist cesspool.

Really? You didn't like Lawson? Was she too demonstrative for you?

Mmm...I'd say Rickea walking off the court alone and without joining the handshake line is worse than anything Angel does. Same with getting suspended for bad practice habits. Candace, Meighan Simmons, Cierra Burdick and Jordan Reynolds were quite demonstrative as well. But as I noted in my earlier post, I think we're more forgiving when it's a Tenn player.

ISU vs Texas is an interesting one. They are calling fouls on any contact by Texas, but they are letting ISU maul away in the paint. 5-0 fouls favoring ISU so far.

Women's games refs needs to learn how to call fouls properly in the paint.

All in the context of Grumpy Old Man, but no, Lawson always rubbed me the wrong way. Not overly demonstrative I guess, but just something about her manner. Not rational on my part.

And opening a can here, but couldn't stand Simmons, one of my least favorite all time LVs. Just me though.

Re: Rickea's sins, it's apples and oranges. With Reese the conversation is about continuing, on court, in game, for the camera behavior which taunts other players.

They were calling some minimal contact as fouls but ignoring some more forceful stuff on both sides. This is the kind of game where it’s impossible for the players to adjust. They are all over the place.

glv98, she has always struck me as possibly just a tad over the AS spectrum-y line. Know what I mean? The type who is smart as hell but overly sincere, somewhat lacking in humor and certain social skills?
