Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2024-25

Just seen the finalist for the Wooden award and honestly was surprised not to see Angel R. included then read the criteria for the award:
Candidates must be full-time students making progress toward graduation and have a cumulative 2.00 grade-point average since enrolling in their school. They also must exhibit strength of character, both on and off the court; should contribute to team effort, excel in both offense and defense and should be considered on their performance over the course of the entire season.
However, LSU confirmed to ESPN on Saturday that Reese is not eligible for the final 15, as she does not meet all the criteria for the Wooden Award…..hmmm I wonder why. 😎

Save it for the boneyard. I’d say it’s considerably more terrible to have a young woman who has damaged her knee at least twice in one season continue to try to play.

She came back for like what, a game and a half before she tore it up again?
Are you her parent? Coach? Doctor? She says she feels better than she did the first time and I highly doubt her parents and UConn‘s medical staff would allow her to continue playing if they felt she wasn’t ready. You aren’t aware of the damage and are ignorantly speaking on a topic you have no input on. Continue enjoying the show this weekend.

No, just adult enough to not wish injury on a 20 year old kid.
Adult? You can speak things into existence? Tell me again, do you claim to be a witch. Pretty sure you weigh more than a duck. Consider your answer carefully. We can play B-Y games if you so chose.

It’s no point in going back and forth. Have a good day, enjoy the game!

As far as Auriemma allowing players who suffered injuries to return to the court potentially too early, I think the lack of caution shown with Caroline Ducharme is far more troubling than allowing Fudd to play. Ducharme entered the season with a neck injury and by all appearances suffered at least one and possibly more concussions on top of that. After sitting out a few games in concussion protocols she returned only to get reinjured.

She actually missed 13 games. If I am not mistaken, coaches generally do not make the decision as to when a player is eligible. There are medical staffs just for that purpose. The reports from today claimed that Caroline wants to play tomorrow, but UConn has stated the medical staff will evaluate her.

She did not tear up her knee the second time, she banged it, and suffered no structural damage. Again, the decision to play her was made by the medical staff, her parents, and her decision. According to a quote that I read, she told Geno, “I will be ready when I’m ready.“ On today’s broadcast she said that she felt better today than the last time she played Georgetown.

They have sat players for precautionary reasons several times this year even when they were desperate for bodies.

Iowa over Maryland that probably moves them to a one seed if the can beat Ohio State.

Tough loss for the Terps. The game was tied late in the fourth quarter. Iowa missed a shot, got an offensive rebound via Warnock, who then kicked out to an open Marshall who hit a 3-pointer to break the tie. Maryland made one more run to close to within a point only to barely miss on a steal attempt on the subsequent Iowa inbound. The Terps had a final chance with 20 or so seconds left and a 3-point deficit. They looked for a 3-pointer to tie but Briggs passed up a defended shot and Meyers ended up missing a desperation shot with defenders all around her. It was a game of fine margins, lots of if-only moments. As a thin silver lining, the Terps have been able to use every loss this season to up their game. They can use the hurt they feel now for motivation to make an NCAA Tournament run.

Just as I have opined that Ohio State was ready to oust Indiana, I now suspect that they are also primed to defeat Iowa tomorrow to win the B1G Tournament.

Let’s see how many minutes she makes it this time. You can defend this as much as you want. It’s not smart.

I am relatively certain that Fudd made the decision herself to return now. Instead of sitting her Auriemma kept using her all the way through today's game in which she has suffered another head injury in a collision with her own teammate (Aaliyah Edwards). As far as I am concerned Auriemma has failed in his responsibility to protect one of his players from potentially life-altering harm.
I am really, really worried about Ducharme. I’m not trying to be critical of anyone here but I promise if she were mine we would be done for the year!

Kara bringing some of that SEC flavor to the ACC with the defense.
Defense like that used to win games until the evolution of offense in the womens game over the last 15 years. If Kara can't coach a team offense, that currently has 7 High School All-Americans on it, she needs to hire herself a coach who can teach the offensive side of things. Duke has literally scored 118 points in the last 3 games. An average of under 40 points a game. That will not win basketball games in this day and age even if you have the best defense in the country. Duke's offensive numbers are mind-blowing with the amount of talent on that team.

They really limit possessions which means they also get fewer. Just not as many possessions to score on when taking the air out of the ball like they do.

I agree though. She needs an offensive coordinator. They could be like some of the really good A&M teams where Gary ran the offense and Bob ran the defense.

Go,Vols, was a great game

Congratulations to the Lady Vols. Resilient comeback against LSU. If Tennessee can make the SEC championship competitive they should be in line for hosting games in the NCAA Tournament

As for LSU, the narrative regarding their questionable credentials is likely to be on a loop among pundits. Inevitably, such sentiments are likely to have some sway with the selection committee. LSU's seeding in the NCAA Tournament could fall significantly.
