Non-Lady Vol Basketball News 2024-25

LVs attendance was strong in their first round matchup. I don’t even get why that’s up for discussion. Tomorrow night should be even better!

Well, I’m not sure I’d call 5,448 “strong.” Granted, those 5448 were all-in and probably really helped Tennessee’s effort, but that had to be the weakest attendance of any Lady Vol NCAA Tournament home game in history. Hopefully tomorrow will be better! Sure hope so. 🧡

1. Iowa - 14,382 (almost sold out)
2. Arizona - 9,573
3. South Carolina - 8,478
4. Louisville - 8,407
5. LSU - 7,890
6. Michigan - 6,471
7. Indiana - 6,389
8. Iowa State - 5,546
9. NC State - 5,483 (practically sellout - a very few single tickets remaining)
10. Tennessee - 5,448
11. UConn - 5,073
12. Maryland - 4,776
13. Oklahoma - 3,952
14. Baylor 3,855 (Thanks Volfan2012)
15.Texas - 3,822
16. Stanford - 3,610

South Carolina is missing wide open layups.. if you notice VolNation experts go ballistic during LV games for that reason.
Dawn Staley better recruit ‘elite’ HS players if she wants to win a 2nd Championship! Get those 5⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐️ cruits’ … oh wait 😂.

In general need to do more to get the students to support the ladies. Hope they show up Monday.

i think the first step was a bigger media presence that was never made a priority with Holly in charge now getting them there. The LSU game had a strong student body presence i believe. We just need that more and more

Miami is completely trash. SC is giving them all the opportunities and they can’t even pass a ball.

The NCAA tourney committee needs to build a fair seeding system. Just was talking to someone and they pointed out how Jackson State beat Miami and they played in arguably the game of tourney so far against LSU as a 14 seed. Miami has no business being a 8 seed.

The NCAA should use RPI, strength of schedule and Q 1 and Q2 wins. I guess they could call all this the NET as what they are doing with NET now is some kind of BS. If they used this criteria for the entire season then Tennessee would've been a high three seed pushing close to a two. There are teams seeded higher in the tourney right now with a lower RPI. a lower sos, and fewer Q1 andQ2 wins. Sos seems to play no role in the decision so I see no reason to play teams that give you a strong sos. If I were Tennessee I would line up Tennessee Tech, Chattanooga, ETSU, Austin Peay, Tennessee State and others beat them as bad as I could as that seems to be a strong basis of the NET. NC played no one until they got into league play. If they had played Tennessee's schedule they would have more than six losses. All their losses came in league games. If you don't have a standard system to determine seeds then it becomes a popularity contest like Iowa as a two seed.

Miami beat Jackson St. 71-67. Miami was a bubble team that made into the NCAA tournament because they made it into the ACC Tournament final beating Louisville and Notre Dame along the way.

I long for a point guard like that at Tennessee. We worked her over with traps and face guarding and she still scored a lot of points.
Thought KW was most effective guarding her. I believe Kellies first post game comment was how good the defense was. Holding them ten below average.

Good question> i don't know the answer as it seems scattershot. For example, I though Iowa's game seemed one of the worst timed games yet had by far the best attendance. It started at 4:00 on a Friday, meaning that many people had to take off early from work to get there and parents had to make arrangements for someone to be at home for the kids when they arrived from school. I think if we want to look if game times impacted attendance, a good answer will be if the 2nd round games drew significantly better than the first round games. They typically don't, especially the 2nd round games on Monday nights.
Didn’t the Iowa location include Iowa and Iowa state playing? If I am correct that would pump up attendance.

You realize if a P5 team makes the tourney they will be seeded 9 or above right? And Miami just made it to the ACC championship, the same conference with two number one seeds. You can spin it anyway you like, Miami was a tough ass team for most ranked opponents all season outside of a few bad games like most have. But yeah, they were “trash” even though they beat a top 4 team- think their other game with Louisville was a 3 point contest…

Sorry in advance to all the chicken worshipers out there but I don't see USC winning the championship. They are offensively challenged and sometimes struggle to finish against good teams. They didn't score much over 20 points in the 1st half today against an average team. Yeah, they have a good defense but their offense is Holly 2.0.
Agreed. They looked pitiful today against Miami.
