Non-Lady Vol Game discussion

This Missouri and South Carolina game could go down to the end. Missouri flops and complains so much, it's ridiculous. Sophie Cunningham is talented, but she plays dirty and flops also.

Missouri very hard to beat at home. We have to play there this year.

They support their women’s basketball team... Cunningham is fiery, a good baller, and a bit of a hotdog. For some reason as nice as our girls are I don’t think Rennia, Meme, Jaime, or Evina is going to take to much of her barking at them. She is an emotional player and the heart of that team she is also prone to picking up fouls. So you can get in her head.

I love Missouri’s game. There are going to be some great battles in the SEC this season.

A&M is also in a tussle with Auburn. Carter has been held in check thus far 6 points on 2-9 shooting, 4rb, 2 a, 3to going into the half

Miss State leading LSU by 12 in the 4th. McCowan has played poorly, but still has 26 pts and 16 rbs. Vivians a non factor in foul trouble the whole game. I think they might be a better team than SC. SEC may come down to State and Tennessee.

Coach Staley out of game for two technical. Missouri flopping and drawing fouls ! Going to be hard game there!!!

I really dislike Cunningham. I hope we don’t lose to them when we play. They could kill us with dribble penetration.

Tennessee better not sleep on LSU. They got some great guard play.

McCowan scored the least impressive 31 pts and 20 rbds I've seen. Sounds crazy, but she didn't play that well.

this is the SEC. and a day where how the referees called fouls was significant in several games.

And we have to go play LSU at their place. It may be because she doesn’t really have post moves but I guess really hasn’t needed them because she scores a lot of points off of putbacks. It is amazing that either State great at their entry passes into the post or that no coach uses length to make those entry passes more difficult. I will say this she is a bf body but I’m starting to appreciate Russell’s mobility when I look at some of these other bigs because they can barely get up and down the floor and their lateral quickness is truly glaring.

Don't get me wrong...I think McCowan is really good. She's also surprisingly mobile for her size, and she knows how to really go after the ball on entry passes and rebounds. I also like that when she catches the ball high, she goes straight for the basket without bringing the ball down. She may not have a lot of post moves, but the ones that she does have are money. She's not like that 6'9 girl from UVA who has zero back to the basket moves. McCowan is also helped by the fact that she's got 4 deadly shooters on the floor with her. You can't double her because State basically plays 3 PGs at the same time who are all very good passers. And there's few players who can guard her 1-on-1. Tennessee happens to have one of them. If Russell can limit McCowan or make her work really hard for her points without having to rely on help defense, I think Tennessee should win this one.

I am impressed by how well State runs their offense. They are very crisp and efficient with their passing and player movement. If they had another 2-3 quality 6'2+ players, I think they would be the favorite for the SEC.

The top 3 posts in the SEC have put up some ridiculous numbers today.

Russell: 33 pts 8 rbds on 14-20 shooting.

Hillsman: 31 pts 10 rbds on 10-11 shooting

McCowan: 31 pts 20 rbds on 13-24 shooting

Hard to pick who will be SEC POW with these kinds of performances.

Why would anyone just now be "starting to" believe MSST is better than SC? SC lost three starters off a team that was barely better than MSST last year.

OF COURSE MSST is better.

Two. Coates wasn't around for the SEC and NCAA final. Also, State lost 3 starters and most of their depth to graduation and didn't get recruits to replace them. SC can afford to lose Wilson to foul trouble more than State can afford to lose McCowan.

The losses of Davis, Coates and Gray are much bigger than Dillingham, Richardson and Okorie. Okorie may have started over McCowan but McCowan averaged more in every category of worth including minutes played.

SC may have gained Jennings, but they also lost Cuevas-Moore. Neither team got much to replace what they lost. SC is unbalanced as hell and has gotten nothing in recruiting off their NC, which makes me think their NC will wind up being a fluke.

I think their essentially 4 guard offense benefits them as far as spacing. I thought we were losing a lot with Russell and Nared (which we are) but they lose three prominent pieces (Williams- their PG, Vivians- can play 2-4, Schafer- their knock down shooter and glue to the teaam). But like us this year I wonder if they will just get some super freshmen in to make the transition less painful.

not an important game Miss/Florida double overtime. Miss star Mohammad went 3 for 23 including 1-13 from 3. and the 30 sec video on the game including one of her layups. Vandy, Florida, Miss and Arkansas not very good.

Not to mention McCowen could leave early for the WNBA draft (I doubt she will) but with 2 players entering Miss State in the Top 50 that are both 6'5" should Miss State win it all this year (I doubt they would) there is the possibly she could leave.

There have been WNBA scouts at their games as well not just watching Vivians and Morgan William

I was watching the Miss State game versus Ark.
I love the way Vivian’s can just light it up. They have a really small line up (Miss State) with Vivian’s playing the 4, and the small three guards.
They shoot and take care of the ball extremely well.
Interesting to see how we will match up against them.

McCowan probably knows that she has a real chance to be a top 4 WNBA pick next year if she stays and gets another year of experience. At the rate she's improving, I think she's a legitimate NPOY candidate next year. I doubt she leaves early unless like you said, State goes on a tear and wins it all. Next year might be good for her because she will have some talented size to play with, but they lose all of their experienced shooters.

Face guard the hell out of William. Same thing SC did to her in the NC game. Don't bother pressing because all three of their primary ball handlers can break a press with ease and find McCowan for uncontested layups all game.

Make State's small lineup play defense and rebound, and Russell needs to control Teaira inside 1-on-1.
