Missouri very hard to beat at home. We have to play there this year.
Tennessee better not sleep on LSU. They got some great guard play.
McCowan scored the least impressive 31 pts and 20 rbds I've seen. Sounds crazy, but she didn't play that well.
And we have to go play LSU at their place. It may be because she doesnt really have post moves but I guess really hasnt needed them because she scores a lot of points off of putbacks. It is amazing that either State great at their entry passes into the post or that no coach uses length to make those entry passes more difficult. I will say this she is a bf body but Im starting to appreciate Russells mobility when I look at some of these other bigs because they can barely get up and down the floor and their lateral quickness is truly glaring.
Why would anyone just now be "starting to" believe MSST is better than SC? SC lost three starters off a team that was barely better than MSST last year.
OF COURSE MSST is better.
Don't get me wrong...I think McCowan is really good. She's also surprisingly mobile for her size, and she knows how to really go after the ball on entry passes and rebounds. I also like that when she catches the ball high, she goes straight for the basket without bringing the ball down. She may not have a lot of post moves, but the ones that she does have are money. She's not like that 6'9 girl from UVA who has zero back to the basket moves. McCowan is also helped by the fact that she's got 4 deadly shooters on the floor with her. You can't double her because State basically plays 3 PGs at the same time who are all very good passers. And there's few players who can guard her 1-on-1. Tennessee happens to have one of them. If Russell can limit McCowan or make her work really hard for her points without having to rely on help defense, I think Tennessee should win this one.
I am impressed by how well State runs their offense. They are very crisp and efficient with their passing and player movement. If they had another 2-3 quality 6'2+ players, I think they would be the favorite for the SEC.
I think their essentially 4 guard offense benefits them as far as spacing. I thought we were losing a lot with Russell and Nared (which we are) but they lose three prominent pieces (Williams- their PG, Vivians- can play 2-4, Schafer- their knock down shooter and glue to the teaam). But like us this year I wonder if they will just get some super freshmen in to make the transition less painful.
Not to mention McCowen could leave early for the WNBA draft (I doubt she will) but with 2 players entering Miss State in the Top 50 that are both 6'5" should Miss State win it all this year (I doubt they would) there is the possibly she could leave.
There have been WNBA scouts at their games as well not just watching Vivians and Morgan William
I was watching the Miss State game versus Ark.
I love the way Vivians can just light it up. They have a really small line up (Miss State) with Vivians playing the 4, and the small three guards.
They shoot and take care of the ball extremely well.
Interesting to see how we will match up against them.
