Non-Lady Vol Game discussion

USC
MSU
TN- won (go LV)
TX
UCLA
FSU
Mia- won
Iowa

Miami upset Duke like I predicted. SC in trouble but picking up the tempo and then stopped forcing the ball to Wilson has actually benefitted them.Chennedy Carter is special! However, I am glad we have three special freshmen and KK is going to be good as well 😬 I’m 2-0 right now

Carter is going to be a handful to guard! Which LV takes on that challenge?

Westbrook is a tough/ intelligent defender with length... she shut down McCarty (5’4” compared to chenedy carter at 5’8”). Her footwork on the defensive end is some of the best I’ve seen from LV perimeter players for awhile. Meme is also better at defending. She is quick but can you negate that with length of Davis/Nared? Nared is also better adepth at defending on the perimeter. Make her go easy/west not North/south because once she gets going full steam ahead watch out (much like Kelsey Mitchell shoulders going down) ! Carter also is still learning to the physicality of the game because she is fading. Maybe you make her initiate the offense, defend her, make her guard. I think who ever she is guarding drives by or pulls up because aside from Hayes they all have length on her. Also, rebounding is key to not let them outlet to her. She can rebound and start a break but she isn’t going to outrebound Meme, Nared, Davis. What SC is doing is sending two back finally and it was a smart move with a bigger defender on her. Also she is an emotional player can you get in her head? I know Westbrook can because she is feisty, Meme can as well, and we know Jaime isn’t taking ish off anybody.

Sidenote: I guess cooper still hasn’t gotten cleared yet as she is not in at the beginning of SEC play. So this will be 13 games she has missed

#4 South Carolina Gamecocks beats #22 Texas A&M Aggies 61 - 59 with A&M getting 0 points from the bench and SC only 3 points from the bench.

I sure was hoping A&M could hold on for the win, 'cause it would have tossed the Lady Vols a huge bone in league standings come March.

Both of these matchups will be tough for Tennessee, so they will really need to maintain intensity and focus far better than they did today.

If she hasn't already, I'd like to see Holly figure out a way to reduce turnovers gotten through careless passing.

I don't know how she can get through to them how SOOOOOO very important valuing every possession can be as the competition gets better and tougher.

Could each turnover be turned into some kind of dreaded team running drills the next day? What can be done that would make the players think, "Hey, maybe I shouldn't be so casual with the ball?"

OR, is one of the reasons this team is having success so far is they aren't overthinking and hesitating too much like several recent teams have done?

I seriously wonder what could be done in the short amount of practice time allowed each week to cut down on the turnovers without making them afraid to play loose?

Carter had 37 shots to get her 36 points. Wonder what the record is for shots taken by a freshman. I do know for sure the Aggie Boarders have not started a thread "Carter needs more shots!"

Gule may know more how Florida got outscored 30 - 4 in fourth quarter entering behind 54-51. 28 TO to Auburn's 6. The SEC conference games have begun!

It is going to be interesting to see McCowan go up against a team with size. I am interested to see how she will fair against tall and more mobile posts (ie Russell and Wilson). Guaranteed they will both attack her footspeed and try to take her off the dribble. While she will try and bury them in the low post. I am also interested Vivians and Nared matched up at the 4.

I’m starting to think State is a better all around team than USC. USC is just offensively bad without Wilson. State has three viable options in Willam, Vivians, and McCowan.

I think Mercedes can stop McCowan. I’m more concerned with Vivians and Willam, though both Westbrook and Nared have shown to be capable defenders.

Yea, offensively Williams has been out of sorts and people always seem to find a way to rise against the name across the chest of our jersey especially in the house that CPS built. I can’t believe how brutal that upcoming stretch is. A&M (away), SC (away),
ND (away), and when you get to come home it’s to play Ms St. It has been said that this is why these ladies have come to UT was to play games like this... well they get their wish! One game at a time has been a good approach for this team and if the leaders can continue to keep the players focused on one game at a time I think this stretch will really help our team grow more and overcome adversity.

Texas pulled it out. Ok State was up by 8, but lost it down the stretch. They’ve been in several close games, but haven’t finished. I believe we beat them by 10

Rewatched the Georgia Ms State game. Georgia looked impressive at times, but they did not have the offense needed to compete. State switched to a zone early and took them out of the game.
Georgia was pretty impressive defensively. Their zone neutralized Willam and forced other players to hit shots. Unfortunately Georgia did not rebound well and gave many second opportunities to State. They couldn’t really stop McCowan either.
State was very disciplined offensively with few turnovers and crisp passing. The times when Georgia was able to score was mainly due to State taking a bad shot that led to a fast break.
I don’t see us losing to Georgia, but State looked like a complete and well rounded team.

State is a solid team, but they lack size and depth. Their 3 midget point guards will struggle to keep Tennessee off the glass.

It's by no means a given, but I think Tennessee is the favorite no matter what Vivians and McCowan put up.
