Not sold on Butch nor Dobbs

Because Tennessee just so happens to be the worst team in the SEC, when other SEC teams are at their pinnacle. Keep in mind, the majority of the "help" we are supposedly getting in the '14 class are coming in as HS seniors. It takes time to get even talented HS players SEC gauntlet experience.

Look how quickly other good coaches were able to come in and turn around fledgling programs. I agree with you on consistency, but if Butch doesn't have us at least flirting with ten wins again by year 3, something's wrong. Really wrong. Giving him five years is just making the brand more stale and driving away more fans. Last night Butch had no control over the players. Everyone quit and it was obvious. The "best staff in the country" still has glaring problems that are coachable:

1. Defense runs bad angles for tackles.
2. Defense does horrible job wrapping up for tackles.
3. Secondary constantly out of position. It's one thing to just get beat by better players, but the secondary is constantly in the wrong place
4. O-Line still can't run block and they've regressed on pass blocking. Last night we weren't just losing a 4 on 4 battle, we were getting demolished.
5. I know the WRs are young, but this far into the season, they should be better at running routes.
6. Consistently losing the pass rush, yet our TEs and RBs are consistently running pass routes instead of staying to help block.

Things aren't that rosy with Butch and Co. Dooley looked really good for eight months too, then the wheels fell off. Time for Butch to show what he's made of.

Dobbs has some talent, but no touch on his deep throws and an inabillity to get it into the endzone.....I am just not seeing the it factor that people have talked about...Bray looked better against SC as a true freshman and you could immediately see his supreme talent and it factor....I'm just not seeing it with Dobbs. 3 points even as a true freshman and with wr drops ain't looking too promising...he resembles worely as a true freshman agsint SC...more so than a future stud....I am eager to see if Riley is any better...

As for Butch....the team has quit on him...oline has regressed ....defense is still awful...is.it really surprising considering what janckeck did at uga? That might as well been a Dooley team out there tonight...
Ok negavols, there is a very simple solution, burn your orange stuff and start wearing red & attending Bammer pep rallies where everything is bluebirds, lollipops, and orgasms.

ridiculous. Just because we criticize the team and/or coaching staff does not mean we don't want to be fans. The fact that you refuse to see the glaring problems just makes you blind. It has nothing to do with being a fan. Get over yourself.

Where to start???

1. Defense backs and linebackers routinely out of position in pass coverage;

2. Defense taking bad angles on attempting to tackle RB's and wideouts;

3. Numerous procedure penalties;

4. Defense - Very rarely has a spy on oppopsing qb who is a known running qb;

5. Continuing to run zone read when counter trap plays have proven to be more successful run plays.

6. Ran too few screens and qb draws last night to slow pass rush;

7. O Coord did not have a game plan to protect the true freshman qb (ie. keep a back in the back field to help with pass rush);

8. O Coord continuing to give Neal more carries than Lane who clearly hits the whole faster - run game is noticeably better with quick hitting run plays bs inside zone read;

9. Zone blocking - no fan - takes away from natural aggression for smash mouth run blocking;

10. Defense Coord did not have answer to stop Mauch - a spy should have been used - see #4 above.

I agree that Tennessee is talent deficient however I do not believe that the coaching staff has been stellar (or even good) as a whole this year with the exception of in recruiting.

Thank you for responding.

Two-thirds of a season for a coach, and 1 start for a true freshman qb. Makes sense to pass armchair judgment on both of them. :good!:

Dobbs had a decent game - but why is that the staff cannot or should not be critiqued for each of their games?

The players are graded for each game - coaches should be as well!

this. And the team appears to be getting worse. How can you not blame the coaches?

They scored 3 points on Mizzou!!!!

Arky State, Toledo, Indiana, and Vandy all scored more points against Mizzou than the Vols.

Does Arky state have better talent and coaching than the Vols?

Does Toledo and Indiana have better talent and coaching than our Vols?

And what about Vandy?

That has nothing to do with nothing.

I see what you are saying. Your first 2 points can and will be improved with talent. The others, I agree, they need improvement and the staff as well as the players are responsible. It is going to take more than 1 talented string of football players to win 9-10 games in this schedule. Again, I fault our lame duck previous administration for scheduling such difficult out of conference opponents as well. This does not help a struggling program. Ultimately my concern, is that another losing season will hurt us in recruiting. 4 losing seasons in 4 years is a brutal fact to recruit against. And then you have teams like Auburn, doing very well with only slightly better talent than Tennessee does. So I don't know man...

All I'm going to say is this....WE BEAT A 6TH RANKED SOUTH CAROLINA TEAM! As a TRUE FAN, that's more than what we have done in 3 to 5 years. How easy we FANS forget that these kids chose Tennessee when no one else would. Its the first year and when we make a bowl game this year, Hell that would be an outstanding year for our program! Oh yeah, one other thing OUR players read all this garbage, especially OUR recruits...Thanks for the future motivation of our program! Our fans is where OUR problem is!!!!!!

Nobody is saying the staff shouldn't be critiqued but the problem is some "fans" are already throwing in the towel on CBJ and company not even after one season. The man is getting some good recruits and if he signs the ones that are committed and then doesn't do anything with that kind of talent then he can and will be shown the door. Should he get 5 years? No, but at least give him until the end of next year and let's see where things stand. All in all it doesn't matter what any of us think CBJ is going to be here for awhile. And BTW, who is it exactly that are grading these players, message board football experts?

You and all 11 of your posts need to go stand in the corner and think about what you just said.

Fans fault? Fan are the problem?

Boy oh boy.

Have you watched the all-22 and graded the film? If so, post a coherent analysis please. Or.......

Most good college football players don't waste their time reading these chat boards and if they are that is mistake #1!

So fans are the reason the Vols have lost so many games in such ugly fashion over the past 4-5 years???? hmmmm really?

So you disagree that the each player that played in the game is not graded by the staff?

The point is the same - the staff is fair game for critiquing! The head coach is making 3 mill per year - he and he staff should not be immune to a critique about their performance.

Most players are all over social media sites like Twitter, Facebook, etc. so saying they don't read things won't hold water.

FYI - I have never said nor implied that CBJ or any member of his staff should be fired!!!!!

Well truth is we may not know if his system will work until about midway through his 3rd year. That is how piss poor the talent and depth is here. Just can't judge him yet. Most coaches make a decision or two in every game they'd like to have back. Butch Jones has to coach a perfect game to beat good teams right now. The team also has to execute flawlessly. I look forward to a day when a mistake or two doesn't make a whole lot of difference. We're young in a lot of spots and will be again next year. I just hope the guys he's bringing in will be a lot better than what is leaving..

You can critique away but unless your last name is Hart or Haslam your words won't mean much.
