I have personally consulted with the head of the Texas Cattle Feeders Association, the National Cattle Feeders Association, and the National American Millers Association, and this argument absolutely holds weight today. The beef, chicken, pork, soy bean, and grain industries in America would be ravaged by a serious crackdown on "illegal immigrants."

explain that to the 50 illegal immigrants on my street corner looking for work sitting there all day. i don't believe it. do you live in a border state?

They most definitely pay income tax. However, except for the extremely savvy "illegal immigrants" they do not file tax returns.

first off you don't count the ones that get paid under the table. next if they are smart at all they put on their w-4s that they are exempt from income taxes. how many illegal immigrants do you know? i know quite a few and none of them are paying income taxes. quite a few are on welfare.

maybe if Mexico would adopt the same open door policy that the US has, there wouldn't be a problem. Illegal aliens in Mexico get thrown in jail, then deported.

You mean the fact that it is entirely possible to come here legally?

I know better than to debate this with you, nothing against you, but I agree with therealut almost in full and would rather not stoop back into old politic forum habits. If I do, I may not like you anymore. :)

The day that Mexico becomes more like the US is the day that the "illegal immigration problem" starts to go away.

I am sorry. I was talking about the other 49 states. I do not concern myself with the People's Republic of California. The states that produce the bulk of the food for the nation (the Midwest, aka "The Breadbasket of the World") is what I am concerned with. And, if you believe that "illegal immigrants" confine themselves to border states, you are sorely mistaken.

Take a visit out to the feedlots of Western Kansas and the managers of these feedlots will actually tell you that their is a shortage of "illegal immigrant" help. US Beef producers cannot raise their costs, else the price of beef would rise. Any negative fluctuation in the price of beef will force them out of business, as they are trying to compete with international government subsidized beef industries on the global market. The same is happening in the pork and chicken industries (Tyson just announced huge layoffs, of American workers, this past week.)

The only viable solution to the problem is to get rid of a federally mandated minimum wage. Introduce wage competition into the market, and let US good compete once again on the global market. Until that happens, we are going to have to rely more and more on "illegal" help in order to maintain our current comfort of living.

The above statement will never happen. Mexico does not have the resources, nor the concern for that to happen.

Why the no debate on this? I do not see anything wrong with what I am saying. I honestly have no problem with someone pointing the flaw out if there is one. I honestly have zero problems with immigration when done correctly.

Ha, it's a reference to some of our epic borderline flame wars awhile back.

Because whether you like it or not, Mexico is our only neighbor that doesn't use English as their primary language (most all French Canadians can speak English). That being the case, wouldn't you want to be able to converse with your neighbors?

You know as well as I do that there is not a reasonable way to get into this country legally in order to take some mundane, low wage job.

That is very different than having to learn the language of illegal aliens so their way of life is preserved.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say if I was in Mexico illegally they would throw my ass in jail and not give a damn about my language or heritage.

and obama should realize it's his people, the inner city blacks, getting the most screwed by the illegal immigrants. all of the problems and almost no of the benefits.

If you want to survive on almonds, artichokes, dates, figs, kiwi, olives, pistachios, prunes, raisins, strawberries, and walnuts, then go for it.

I am a fan of beef, pork, chicken, and bread as my staple foods.

 And it would take a bit more than an act of congress to get you back home. Here we catch and release.

And, I am going to go out on a limb and say that if you applied for a work visa in Mexico it would be granted in less than 6 months time...

What does this have to do with me needing to stop being pathetic and learn Spanish so I can speak to illegal citizens?

I guess next you going to tell me I should learn Chinese so I can speak to the triads.

This is ridiculous. It doesn't make me a bad person for wanting people to obey the laws, learn the language, etc. If you go to our local DHS, 90% of the people there are hispanic. If I tried to go get food stamps, Tenncare, etc I would have to give everything short of a urine test. They get it with filling out very little paperwork. If you want to be successful here and you have to learn the language, and there is nothing wrong with that. If I went to any other country, I think I would be learnign some key phrases like where's the bathroom ,etc. if I lived there. And giving them DL's will not help keep up with them, that's another lame excuse. This is a matter of national security, and really just common sense. They shouldn't get special treatment just because they can cross a border and someone from Europe can't. On top of that, the Mexican govt. encourages this.
