Jesus Christ, I think most Sox fans knew that at some point in time, Wakefield would implode and get crushed on. That night was last night. 6 IP's, 8 ER's. Bard was amazing. We couldn't hit last night for crap, even though Palmer was throwing 88 MPH fastballs down the center of the zone.

Frustrating night last night. Hopefully, tonight will be better with Penny on the mound, and Pedroia back in the lineup.

Oh yes, I like the start time for today's game. 3:35 here, with a 12:35 start in Anaheim.

Well last night was the night Wake imploded, i thought we scored enough runs to win the game. Hopefully we can get the series by winning tonight.

Jason Bay is exactly what this team needed after the whole Manny saga, i hope Theo extend's this mans contract. Would love to see him in LF for years to come.

Bard is the next big thing for us, he is our future setup man or if Pap's wants to much money i expect Theo to tell him where the door is & let Bard be the next closer. Bard has some nasty stuff!

Pitchers Profiles.........................
Penny
After registering four quality starts in six outings to begin his Red Sox career, Penny will get the nod in Thursday's series finale after logging a season-high 6 1/3 innings in his last start against Tampa Bay. The burly right-hander limited the defending American League champion Rays to three runs in each of his previous two outings, amassing 10 strikeouts and issuing just four walks.

Santana
Santana makes his season debut, a collateral ligament sprain in his right elbow that surfaced during Spring Training having kept him sidelined. He made two Minor League rehab starts, most recently on Saturday for Triple-A Salt Lake, and built his pitch count to 80, a level where the club is comfortable. Santana emerged as an All-Star in 2008 en route to a 16-7 record and 3.49 ERA in 32 starts. With a mid-90s fastball, complemented by quality off-speed stuff, he struck out 214 hitters (second in the AL) while walking only 47 in 219 innings as the team's workhorse. Santana had rebounded from a dismal 2007 when he was 7-14 with a 5.76 ERA. For his career he's 51-37 with a 4.42 ERA in 116 appearances, all but two as a starter.

Up next, a matchup with Seattle. Another late start time as well(10:05 ET).

Ortiz: 0 for 7, 3 ks, 12 runners stranded...

um...

I think our RISP was around .179, or something like that. Either way, it was a horrible outing, and we were fortunate that we were even in that game.

Ortiz needs to be dropped to 8th or 9th in the batting order. He's becoming a serious liability to our ballclub.

Ortiz needs to be.... traded.

You'd get nothing in return, I think Papi has just aged fast, as guys that size will tend to do. With his age and troubles over the past year, I'd be surprised if he didn't clear waivers at this point. Just gotta hope for the best.

No sense dropping a DH in the order when you can pencil Rocco in as DH in the 6 spot and bump JD and Bay up in the order.

I hate to say this because i love to watch ..... wait use to love watching Papi but i think the word steroids needs to be thrown around with him. The stats show that he could be a suspect. & if anyone watched First Take on ESPN2 this morning Skip Bayless made a great point about it.

Was saying that he wasnt very productive while with the Twins & that when the Twins released him the Red Sox picked him up & thats when his numbers grew year by year & that he thought it indicated that Manny helped him with something ( steroids ) & that ever since his 50+ homer season he has been declining & that if you go by numbers & clues you would think he was on roids.

He went into alot more detail about it which bought me into believing Ortiz was on roids.

naturally, Ortiz would get better pitches to hit with Manny behind him. That helped alot. But the fact that guy who ramp up to low 90's will throw the 1 at the nipples to Papi, and he cant get around on any of them, is the tide washing the sand castle away, not lack of juice.

Up until recently i didnt believe or want to believe Ortiz could have or would use roids, i thought it was just the product of him getting old. But after looking @ the stats & listening to other peoples opinions im starting to lean toward the fact Papi could have used roids.

Ortiz used to train with Angel Presinal who's been banned from baseball for steroids. Presinal has been linked to A-Rod, Tejada, Juan Gonzalez, Pedro, and many more.

those numbers are assinine without being divided by plate appearances, really. They may prove something, though i doubt it, but gross totals without representing the total chances are useless

Well, now I'm starting to get a little concerned. 2-4 on our west coast road trip, and 3 games behind the Blue Jays, and only 1.5 up on the Yanks. Couldn't even beat the sorry ass Mariners.

The #1 thing that we need to get better at is BA with RISP. We are absolutely atrocious when runners are in scoring position.

Youk will be in the lineup tomorrow, Daisuke will start friday, I'm happier with one of those than the other.
