Hopefully Beckett can have another strong outing today & get this team 20 games above .500 before the AS Break. This team has had to deal with alot of injurys & slumps by Big Papi, Pedroia, Youk, & Bay. But somehow we are still 1st in the AL East & are 2 games back from the Dodgers for the best record in baseball. I still think this team has yet to play its best baseball. We get Lowell & Lowrie back after the break & Smoltz looked like he found a groove last night. Still expect Theo to make a trade for a bat just incase Lowell cant stay healthy for the remainder of the season. We might finally see Buchholz make a few sport starts here in the 2nd half, hopefully he can take what he is doing in the minors & bring it up to the Bigs.

This team is really struggling right now, we cant hit @ all. Beckett & Lester have found their grooves it seems like, but we gotta find a consistent quality 3rd starter. I expect Theo will trade Penny close to the deadline. We could bring up Buchholz for the remainder of the season. I just dont trust this team with the way they are playing right now. We gotta find our bats again & start hitting.

Word is the Sox traded for the Pirates' 1b Adam LaRoche, previously of Braves infamy.

I dont get the point of Theo trading for Laroche when we have Mark Kotsay who is a better defensive player & can do almost the exact things offensivley. I think Theo was making a trade just to be making one. We need a BIG bat, someone like Adrian Gonzalez ( who the Padres have had internal talks about trading or not ) or Matt Holliday. We need a fresh face in this lineup that can come in & energize it immediately. I dont trust this team at all right now.

I'm puzzled by the addition of Laroche myself, he has some pop i suppose, and will allow for Lowell and Youk to take some days off without losing offense totally.

Heading to the Park tonight, first time this year with the budget being tight, nothing like an afternoon on Landesdowne with the boys before the game. Awesome place to be on a home game Saturday.

@ first i was puzzled by the move to get LaRoche also, but after further consideration i actually like the move. We have been struggling against right-handed pitching this year & adding LaRoche helps out with that. He has some pop in his bat & is also a good 1st Baseman. He is an upgrade over Kotsay offensively, which we just DA Kotsay yesterday. We really didnt give up anything to get LaRoche either which is also a plus. But IMO we need a BIG Bat to energize this lineup, the only 2 guys you can count on right now are Pedroia & Youk.

With Cliff Lee going to the Phillies they are now saying the Red Sox are the favorites on landing Halladay, also we are talking to the Indians about getting Victor Martinez & the Padres about Adrian Gonzalez. The Padres are reluctant to trade AG though, im not very high on V-Mart, & i dont like giving up 2 young pitcher's for a 32 year old one.

If we trade for Victor Martinez than Theo Epstein needs to be fired immediately!! He killed this team by not growing balls & signing Texiera this past offseason. He has made more dumb moves than good ones.

Martinez isn't a bad move at all, he's got a few good years left behind the plate as well, a definate upgrade down the road over Varitek. I really liked Masterson, but it looks like we're going to make it through the offseason with both Bucholz and Westmoreland, so i can't really complain. We'll see how it plays out.
