Official 2014 Summer Baseball Thread

Team USA game with Florence is rained out.

AJ went 0/2 and VJax went 0/1 today for Y-D in the Cape.

CDS had lunch with the UT Players up in the ABL...he told the announcers that he was a bit concerned when he saw that Senzel had gotten off to a slow start.

In talking to Senzel, CDS said that Senzel was a bit home sick but that he's good to go now.

CDS is going to be there a couple of more days.

He said that he really likes the program at Matsu, has a lot of respect for Coach Taylor.

Agrees with announcer that Kyle is working on his command this summer.

Says for a guy like Jordan Rodgers who didn't get to play a lot that the 100-150 bats he gets this summer are important for his development.

It's (being in Alaska) a great opportunity for our kids to experience, beautiful part of the country.

UT will always place 2 or 3 of our best players with Matsu (I presume as long as Ben Taylor is coaching).

Alaska Baseball League | The Chugiak Chinooks outdone by Senzel and the Matsu Miners, 4-1 | Pointstreak Sites

Nick Senzel went 2-4 and hit a home run, sparking the Matsu Miners (11-4) to a 4-1 victory over the Chugiak Chinooks (4-12) on Friday at Loretta French Field.

He singled in the second inning and homered in the ninth inning.
The Chugiak Chinooks couldn't get anything going so long as Ryan Hendrix was on the hill. Hendrix gave up just three hits, allowed one earned run, walked two and struck out four during his six innings of work.

Steven Pollex paced the Chugiak Chinooks at the plate. Pollex went 1-3, drove in one and scored one run. He homered in the fourth inning.

Kyle McDorman pitched seven innings and allowed two earned runs, four hits and no walks while striking out two.

McDorman (0-1) was the game's losing pitcher.

Andrew Lee replaced the first baseman in today's game and went: 2 AB, 1 H.

He's batting .333 in the Cape, that's NUTS!

Andrew Lee got the start for Brewster today: 5 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 2 BB. 3 SO...One of those runs will be unearned I think...

I didn't get to watch, only audio today, but he seemed like he was really rocking in the first couple of innings. Like his last outing there was some iffy fielding going on. I'm pretty excited about how he is doing up there.

Forrestt Bramlett: 3 AB, 1 R, 2 H, 1 2B...today in game 1...He'd gone hit-less in his last 6 games

Andrew Plunkett: 4 AB, 3 H, 2 RBI...so far in game two tonight...It's his first multi-hit game of the summer.

I'm really excited for both these guys today, I'm sure it's been a frustrating couple of weeks for them. Hopefully, they can keep it up.

Team USA got rained out again tonight.

David Houser had a big evening with Hyannis tonight: 3 AB, 1 R, 2 H, 3 RBI...

This also his first multi hit game of the summer, his first RBI's as well. He was due, he and VJax are really getting it handed to them, hopefully they can adjust.

Not a particularly good outing for Charpie, came into the game with 2 outs, 2 on...balked moving the runners, walked in a run charged to the pitcher he replaced, but he got out of that with a K. Then he came out for the next inning, gave up a lead off double, then a single and got the hook...

final line: 0.1 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 SO

Eric Freeman came on in the bottom of the 8th for the Muskrats in the NECBL, he faced four batters:

1 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 1 FO, 1 SO, 1 BB, 1 GO (1-3)

I went to check on Derek Lance, the Steam had a couple a days off, but I noticed he hadn't played since the 21st...I checked his twitter, he got hit in the wrist on the 21st and I'm assuming it was HBP because the stats show he was HBP...on the 23rd he said:

Derek Lance @Derek4Lance · Jun 23
Thank The Lord my wrist isn't broken

Hope it's nothing serious and that he gets on the mend soon...

Dave Serrano @DaveSerranoUT · 20h
Only in Alaska do they have the right away. #moose
