Official 2014 Summer Baseball Thread

Andrew Lee (DH) has a decent day considering how few at bats he had this season...3 AB, 1 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 SO

Am I imagining things? I thought I heard or read that Lenstrohm was leaving the program. Hopefully not true.

BIG NEWS!!! According to the announcers for Orleans Stewart is going to get a shot with Team USA...Coach said he wants to get most out of him WHILE HE'S HERE...

I haven't seen this anywhere so TIFWIW...That's a big honor if true...

Stewart Singles in the bottom of the fourth...

He deserves it. He's a very great player. I think he could be a first rounder for us next draft.

AJ and Stew went 1-4 each today...

VJax came off the bench, hit into a dbl play in 1st AB, Got on FC with an RBI in the 2nd...

No stats yet for Houser...

Bramlett went 1 for 2 today, he's batting .471, Plunkett went 0-3 and is batting .190...

Moberg got the start tonight for the Blues, have to get stats later...The California CL is just the WORST!

Owenby gets the hook, gives up a lead off single, sac bunt moves the runner to 2B, then walks the next two batters loading the bases.

Derek Lance goes 0-4 with a walk...had to cool off sometime, Steam lose 5-3.

Looks like it's going to be up to the Alaska boys to get something done today...er...tonight.

Do you think Forrest Bramlett can play third or first? I think it could be a decent transition for him. If he keeps it up, he might push his way into our future quickly.

I don't know, I mean... he's a catcher. I did forget to mention that Lance was playing 3B today.

From what I know Forrest was a bullpen catcher this past year. Don't compare his summer league to anything even remotely close to SEC competition. Good for him but let's not get to excited.

If he keeps up .400, its exciting even if its a little league team. I figure it'd be a .1 drop during the regular year.

Josh Donaldson was a catcher also. If he can block balls, he might be able to play third.

I hope lance is very good at third. That's one of our biggest holes right now.

Senzel (DH) goes: 4 AB, 2 H, 1 R, 1 RBI...both hits were doubles against Lake Erie from the Great Lakes League, game ends in a tie. Senzel voted player of the game.

Jordan Rodgers came in PH, ground into a dbl play...

Wow. I wonder if Owenby has developed the yips or is he losing interest in the game.

Weekend Preview

Due to weather, Laconia (Eric Freeman) and Riverhead (Bramlett and Plunkett) have had games postponed tonight (Fri.). There may be others as the day progresses.

FRIDAY NIGHT GAME OF THE WEEK

Brewster Whitecaps @ Orleans Firebirds (Cape Cod)

Andrew Lee will get the start on the hill for Brewster and he should face Christin Stewart who has been batting third and playing LF for Orleans. This will be Lee's first opportunity on the mound this summer. Stewart, through 2 games and 9 AB's, is batting .222, 2 hits and 2 strike outs.

Game time, 7 PM

* There have been issues with some broadcasts, will update if necessary.

NOTES

* Trevor Charpie has not pitched for the St. Cloud Rox since May 27th. There could be many reasons for this. I would expect to see him this weekend. The Rox are scheduled to play a double header today, first game at 6:30 PM...

* Derek Lance and the Steam play at 7:05 PM. Lance has played CF and most recently 3B.

* Eric Martin hasn't pitched in a week for Bethesda, I would expect to see him this weekend, he's pitched 2 innings total so far. Game time 7:30, watching the weather on this one.

* We have several players in the California Collegiate League. It's really hard to follow these guys due to the fact that most have no video, some have audio for home games, there are no live stats for any of them. Tonight, the San Luis Obispo Blues(Moberg and Vanderford) take on the Conejo Oaks at 8 PM and the Oaks are the only CCL team that have a video feed...sometimes...I will post a link.

* Obviously, the rest of the Cape teams are in action tonight, will update how our Vols do.

* In the Alaska Baseball League we have six players on two teams and most of the time, like tonight, they play at the same time. Because the Miners have free video for games home and away, I almost always watch them and keep track of the Bucs via live stat. The preseason is over in the ABL and the season begins tonight. Based on what I have seen so far, the Miners' pitching is going to be suspect this summer, Serrano has an opportunity here, hope he can step up. I'd expect KS to pitch this weekend, he last pitched on the 8th.

Game time for both teams is 11 PM and I'll post links for those games...weather is always an issue in the ABL.

This is really the start of summer ball, all the players are with their teams, they've met their host families and have gotten at least a couple of games under their belts. I hope they all have good, productive, fun, summers!

GBO!!!

Welp, lol...it appears the Whitecaps/Firebirds game is rained out. Later in the day I'll come up with another GOTW...

All the Cape games (with UT Players) have been cancelled...

Bethesda Big Train game cancelled...
