Official Brexit Referendum Discussion

The Netherlands will be holding their EU referendum within the next 12 months.

If they are smart they vote leave..they have the worst deal of any EU member

How does Britain compare with other EU countries?

For many years, Britain and Germany were the only significant net contributors to the EU budget. Now, however, there are ten countries who pay more in than they get back.

In terms of total contribution, Britain remains the second biggest payer behind Germany.

But when each contributor’s payment is divided by the number of people in the country, Britain sinks down the table. On a per-head basis, Britons are the eighth-biggest contributors to the EU. The biggest payers are the Dutch: every one them sends almost four times as much to Brussels.

Any thoughts on the outcome? I would imagine that the Dutch, which have a fairly high standard of living and are great at trade, would favor leaving since they probably give more then they receive from the EU.

Here is a breakdown of the givers and takers...I would imagine that Poland would vote to stay 99% to 1% they seem to have the best deal...also notice that Belgium(head of the EU) also is a taker.

Wtf Poland

The final result was 17,410,742 votes for Leave (51.9 per cent) compared to 16,141,241 for Remain (48.1 per cent), on a turnout of 72 per cent.

That's really some crazy results. I mean for a vote of something of this magnitude and the results being so close they should have scrapped it. Leaving a union should be something on the lines of 65% maybe 70% or higher in favor. I mean there should be something really wrong going on and it should involve a good majority of the population.

It's a valid point, but look at how many people in turn just believe that a simple majority should cover voting by Congress - the bloc holding that thought at a particular point in time is probably very highly influenced by which party holds the majority, though.

I think 1 million votes is a reasonable enough majority. I know you have the Electoral College, but Romney only had 5 million less votes than Obama.

I applaud the Brits for doing what few are willing to do in the US. We've become a nation of *******.

Patriots? Pineapples? Pueblos? Pentatonics? Pornmongers?

Wtf Poland

Polish sausage isn't selling like it used to. And I blame Obama.

Bad economy/lack of extra money + anti-pork/pro-Islam President = lower Polish sausage sales for weekend barbecues.

Hence, Poland needs more income from the EU to stay afloat.

Thanks Obama.

So if even the Scots are calling the Trumpster a "spoon" (as in can't be trusted with sharp objects) over his comment of the Scots going wild over the exit vote, (they voted to stay in you spoon) then we must hope someone else comes out of the GOP convention that can beat the Hildabeast. Trump, making statements like that on foreign soil can't be trusted to tie his fricking shoes. Shoelaces ain't sharp but he could tie them together, fall, and break his own head.
But, well, he and HiLIARly have both pretty much already done that.

another one of Obama's FP follys. not sure how he ever thought it would be a good idea to say something like that, even if they stayed it shows he is pretty darn shallow.

"you make us redo our trade paperwork? Fine we won't trade with you."

UK: fine we won't buy what little **** you produce either.

Of course, it will be too late as we will be beyond 450ppm CO2 - well beyond the point of no return for human timescales - and the world will be doomed to be much poorer, much more crowded, much more brutish, nasty, and short.

Tulip Mania, South Sea Bubble, the railroad boom, the dotcom boom, the housing boom, the debt market boom (soon) and the population boom (soon).

Everything has a way of correcting itself.

Farage giving the finger to the EU is wonderful. Frick I would vote for him if he were eligibility for the Presidency.

I watched him on the referendum vote night and just love how he doesn't take it from other politicians or the reporters

Funny how the same people that rail against the Big Banks and Crony Capitalism are bent out of shape that Brits rejected the Big Bank/Crony Capitalism world of the EU.

I guess love of centralized government trumps hate of Big Banks

If the EU were committed to free trade they'd work favorable deals with the UK (and others). However, the reaction to punish the UK on trade deals reveals the truer motives - political control of the region.

IMHO - the EU would thrive if it stuck to being a force for economic trade. It is failing because it moved towards centralized control and political control. I look forward to the impending demise and am hopeful for the resurgence of a true economic trading bloc
