Official Brexit Referendum Discussion

What?

Only the ignorant voted to leave.

"Inequality" is used ignorantly, like it usually is among liberals.

Donald Trump will win.

Britain has absolutely destroyed themselves.

A western revolution will take place with Latin America leading the charge.

None of it matters because global warming will destroy the earth anyway.

Man, this post had everything. Hahaha. 5 stars, a must-read.

I made it all the way to "It's faux-democracy at its finest." And I can usually wade through almost everything.

I'm quickly losing respect for the Scotts, they voted to stay with their sugar daddy (England) and now it looks like they're looking for another one.

Either Scottish history wasn't all it was portrayed to be, or something has gone completely off the rails up there.

Exactly, and what amazes me is how big business managed to get in the pockets of the left too without them ever realizing. Everyone knows the right has an affinity for big business, it's how big business has managed to get the left doing its dirty work too that is truly baffling.

Politicians of every stripe simply want a lifetime career of power and money. Find a politician without greed and lust for power and you'll see a guy sitting at home - unemployed. Professed ideology is sold very cheaply these days - maybe always has been.

They're institutionalized. All they know now is how to be subjects.

Nationalism at it peak caused WWII.

Nationalism also caused this country to rally around a cause and defend this great country against an unprovoked attack. Pride in ones nation is not a bad thing despite what many want people to believe.

Nationalism is why we have a volunteer military. People that are proud of the country they were born and raised in (and immigrants that know how special a country this is) and are willing to sacrifice their lives to defend it.

We used to be the leaders of the free world. Other countries envied the things we stood for. Other countries saw what a properly sized government for the people could accomplish. People from around the world would literally risk their own lives to have what we had here. We were the trend setters. I've always told my kids there are two types of people, the trend setters and the trend followers, what do you want to be?

Our enemies used to fear us and our allies relished the fact that we were on their side. Now we are so weak, not from a might standpoint but from a military objective standpoint. We don't lead by example any more. Use to wars were fought over territory. If you fought and won the war, it was yours. Now we go in and decimate the land and spend billions of dollars rebuilding what we destroyed and then leave and let the bad guys have it back.

Ever notice the further we get from the ideals that made America great, the worse things get?

I'm a Conservative party member and so will have a vote as to who will be the next British PM. So far I'm thinking I'll be voting for Theresa May.

All I can say is vote your conscience. I think GB did the right thing in voting to exit the EU.

Brexit: Do you #Regrexit? - CNNPolitics.com

From Brexit to #Regrexit -- an online petition demanding a second referendum on Britain's decision to leave the EU has passed 2 million signatures.

The petition, set up by William Oliver Healey, states: "We the undersigned call upon [the UK] Government to implement a rule that if the Remain or Leave vote is less than 60%, based on a turnout less than 75%, there should be another referendum."

So someone didn't get the outcome they desired, so they change the parameters of the voting as well as the percentage. Almost sounds very Harry Reid like.

The Brexit is a microcosm of everything wrong with Western democracy [sic].

First, there was no burning desire for a referendum. About 6 million strongly wanted it to begin with. Less than 10% - I won't call it an insignificant minority but no real momentum at all.

This was all about a power play with the Tory party where the Brit equivalent of Donald Trump has come out the victor. It's faux-democracy at its finest.

Those who voted to Leave were found Googling "What is the EU?" Cornwall voted strongly to Leave and then immediately begged to keep their £60M investment grant from Europe. What actually happened was a vote against the status quo from people who have long been disenfranchised with the political system and rightly so. Once again - INEQUALITY is the only politics that matter in the world right now (well, really since the Agricultural Revolution).

Which brings us to the Left [sic] and Europe itself. Despite a broad coalition of the young, what people call the Left, and half the Tory government no one was able to communicate successfully to the disenfranchised a message of why the EU was important. Which is because the EU is, in the main, an unequal alliance whose only real mission is to privilege German and French bankers and investor classes. Who, by the way, had short-term windfalls betting on the predictable decline in a fiat currency (a practice that would be illegal in any sensible and fair and merit-based government in the world).

Western democracy [sic] is broken (see Trump, Clinton for more details). Inequality is the only politics worth talking about in the world. The Brexit started as an internal power struggle amongst a party that, really, represents no more than 10% of Britain. Nobody actually has any idea what will happen.

The most likely outcome is at least a partial privatization of the NHS - which will be a disaster for Britain. History will trace back to the Brexit and the upcoming Trump victory as the final discrediting of the 1% parties in Western democracies which have ruled since the mid-1970s - much like Russian tanks rolling through Prague discredited the Left to this day.

And then Britain, as it was the center of the Industrial Revolution, will find itself the center of the New Left. Brexit / Trump victory / 50 years of neoliberalism will revitalise and reinvigorate Leftist movements everywhere. The yoke of Stalinism will be gone and forgotten, and the new Left with new ideas will rise. Although the Latin American Leftist movements will actually be the movers and shakers, Britain will find itself once again at the center of a Western revolution.

Of course, it will be too late as we will be beyond 450ppm CO2 - well beyond the point of no return for human timescales - and the world will be doomed to be much poorer, much more crowded, much more brutish, nasty, and short.

Oh Lawd...

After Brexit, what? U.S. secessionists hankering for 'Texit' | Reuters

Emboldened by Brexit, U.S. secessionists in Texas are keen to adopt the campaign tactics used to sway the British vote for leaving the European Union and are demanding "Texit" comes next.

The citizen-driven vote in Britain can be a model for Texas, which was an independent country from 1836 to 1845, and its $1.6 trillion a year economy would be among the 10 largest in the world, said Daniel Miller, president of the Texas Nationalist Movement.

"The Texas Nationalist Movement is formally calling on the Texas governor to support a similar vote for Texans," the group said on Friday. The office of Texas Governor Greg Abbott was not immediately available for comment.

Baffling??? What planet you from? How young are you? Big business hasn't just been in the Democrat's pockets. Big business has had the Democrats in it's pocket for as long as I can remember, and I'm 65. It's nothing new by amy stretch of the imagination. Why, it's how things are done. Pork barrel Southern Democrats scratching each others backs whilst corporate lobbyists scratch their backs, allocating $$$$ here for industrial parks, there for transportation or sewage plants, whatever, and to the victor's supporters goes the small town postmaster jobs all across the South. My granddaddy shore liked those ways. A Pork Barrel Yellow Dog Southern Democrat Postmaster til his dyin' days.
