Official Dave Hart is Officially Woefully Inept Thread

I understand the point you are trying to make. However, if Dooley hadn't been fired our fanbase would have went postal already (and rightly so).

It was time for Dooley to go. Then it was time for Hart to earn his keep.

We're still waiting on him to do it.

I agree with you that Dooley needed to go, but at this point we could end up with Dooley 2.0. I don't think we will, but I'm just nervous like everyone else is at this point. I will let Hart to his job; however, I may not get much work done until this search is over.

If Chancellor Cheek was the point man today trying to convince Strong to depart Louisville, then why am I not surprised Strong decided to stay?

Hubbs was asked the question: Brent ? What are your sources saying in regards to

Dave Hart and this search. Are they as mad as I have heard they are?

Hubbs wouldnt answer direct but said there were several people mad.

from the recruiting forum

Overreaction?

I think not.

If what LaMonte says is true and Dave Hart only reached out to him for the first time this morning as a courtesy.... His ass should be on the next bus back to Tuscaloosa.

What a clown.

The fact that he couldn't get Gruden is one thing. The fan base can get over that.

But letting this volcano erupt for the last two weeks while he apparently sat on his thumb in his office doing nothing?!?!

This is the most botched coaching search one could ever imagine...... And apparently its not even close to being over.

Put me in the group that thinks we might as well search for a new AD as well.

Ditto!

Hart will now target Butch Jones, I would think, if he hasn't yet ruined his career by signing with Colorado. Not exactly a top candidate. Unless a solid new candidate emerges from college (doubtful) or pros, Hart has to start thinking Chavis. I believe he's the only guy who could excite Vol Nation now.

Was reported earlier that Jones is now a Buffalo. Colorado got an upgrade.

Reason why Tennessee missed out this time? Their AD is Dave Hart, who in 12 years at Florida St, didn’t hire or fire a football coach.

If Dave Hart pulls of Gruden he will likely go to the Vols Hall of Fame as a Great AD...

If he fails,, well he was just another employee

Finally a thread with sensible people. Hart needs to be fired now. He's already demonstrated his utter incompetence. Right now, I really believe that Hart did actually want to keep Dooley had he not lost to Vanderbilt. Hart sat around for two weeks after firing Dooley and did nothing. Then he starts the search by targeting two second tier coaching candidates and letting them play him for raises. Look at Arkansas for how a coaching search should be handled. You go after the best and you keep offering the best until you get someone pretty darn great. And that's at Arkansas. Arkansas, where they have never won an SEC championship. But at UT, we've got an AD who has never hired a big time coach, who crashed and burned at FSU, out there looking for second tier candidates right off the bat. Fire this fool before he locks us into another mediocre coach for the next 3-4 years.

According to a lot of reporting, when initially offered the job, Strong said yes. Hart then gave him a day to think it over because he didn't want to announce a new head coach the same day Fulmer was being inducted into the coaching hall of fame.

That was a huge error. During that time, Strong was in Louisville where his players, assistants, and administration all had the chance to talk him out of taking the UT job. Once someone says yes you put them on a plane that goes straight to UT and that's the end of the story. You don't pass go, you don't collect $200, you don't do anything else but get them into your house where you control what goes on, period. Strong was given too much time to question himself and this is the result.

If you search, there is a Youtube video where the Louisville AD talks about how he hired Strong and then Strong also talks about that process. The Louisville AD knows what he is doing, he is a real AD. Hart is a joke and needs to be immediately replaced with someone who knows how to do the job. In the interim, let the top boosters like Haslam handle this search. Those guys know how to close the deal.

If Cheek gets in the way, fire his ass immediately as well. After reading the things Cheek has written about how he wants to change the university, I am convinced he is another clueless idiot that needs to be replaced as soon as possible. Ideally that can be done a few months from now but if he gets in the way make it now as well.

Gruden: Fail
Fisher: Fail
Strong: Fail
Gundy: Fail
Fedora: Fail

Who will turn us down next?

Hart got caught with his pants down because he planned to keep Dooley. Even Hart didn't think Dooley was incompetent enough to get blown out by Vandy and go 5-7. If Vandy had been a soft loss, Hart would have lobbied hard to keep Dooley, because he didn't want, and wasn't ready for, a coaching change. He made that clear in his press conference and boosters confirm it. Hart is inexperienced and inept at finding and hiring a coach, yet he refused to hire a search firm and shunned boosters' help. He rejected advice and wouldn't return phone calls. He made it a one-man show-- he earned the blame, so let him have all of it.

At this point, we have to stop digging and start filling the huge hole our ADs and their bad decisions have put us in. We have to stick Hart in a corner and bring in a fixer. Our options are limited, because a sitting coach at a solid program will be very reluctant to get involved in something so FUBAR.

I'm going to wait until we see who he hires before deciding what I think of his decision and this process we've gone through. It's never smart to praise nor criticize until its over.

That being said, I doubt I feel good about Dave Hart after he makes his hire.

you're coming around. Maybe we can be friends after all :p

This hasn't been going well, but I'll still wait until a hire is actually made to join the "Dave Hart sucks" bandwagon.

I am not real confident in Hart at this point. But one thing I am looking for is to see what Hart does now. Does he keep his head and take time to get the best hire we can even if it means sacrificing on recruiting this next few weeks? or does he panic and go grab a Butch Jones in the next day or two?
