Official "eat crow" because Butch was hired here thread

Seeing we have such a VASTLY SUPERIOR squad left to us from Dooley, is it your belief that we should compete in the SEC this year??? not to be an arse, just an honest question??

By the way.... CBJ IMHO will have the same issues in the SEC this year, does that side then say we will not win any SEC games this year because of talent??? again, just a question?

So you think Vandy and Kentucky have more talent than us? CBJ is a great football coach. Does this mean he'll beat Alabama, USCjr, Georgia, and Florida all in year one? Probably not. But we will be competitive, and we will probably steal one against a better team this year.

Ill start off. I was out of town, and almost gave up on us ever having a capable coach when I read the news of Jones being hired. I of course did some research, and as always (Dooley being the lone exception( convinced myself he could get the job done. My lone worry was recruiting. I knew recruiting to UT, was different that Cincy, and that if he was good, we would see the results. Well, he has blown past my best expectations in a little over three months. The man has proven he can coach, and now he is showing everyone he can recruit. Russia got a falling star, UT may have gotten one too. But only people getting hurt here are opposing coaches feelings, knowing they can no longer cherry pick this states top talent. If this week is any inclination of what's to come, consider me giddy.

I was wrong about Butch. Any others?

i will wait till after next year to eat my crow, but i'm impressed and for the first time in along time excited to be a volfan

First, a lot of that superior talent is gone (Our qb, 2 NFL WRs, nfl O lineman and NFL tight end) is gone from 2 years ago.

Second, betcha we get 3 SEC games this year, which if I'm doing the math, is more competitive than 1 win which was the norm the last 3 yrs.

Third, if you mean by same issues we will struggle to beat Alabama and Florida, I'm with you. Yeah, we'll have those issues like every other year. Otherwise, I don't see anything similar - especially on D.
Willing to wager we don't give up 700+yds to AP, WKY or Oregon for that matter.

I like Butch and think he should be much better than Dooely, but isn't this thread a but premature? Maybe we can play a game or two, or even a season or two first.

I was disappointed initially.
Highly disappointed.
So far, so good, but I'm not eating crow just yet.
It's on the table though.

I really don't mean to be a downer, but I need to see a few games first.

I agree that we need to see results on the field. Tell me though do you honestly think that it could be worse than the Dooley debacle? I watched the Miss St. game and saw how the coaching staff acted and was totally embarrassed, I think they should have all been fired after that game.
Last yrs defense never showed any improvement and everyone harps on the offense, hell I could have coached that talent and that is exactly the point. Dooley was in over his head and should never been hired.
Butch on the other hand "seems" to have things turning around I never had that feeling with Dooley. One other thing for you people who wanted Strong. Butch beat him 2 out of 3 times. Need I remind you what Louisville did to the Gators in the Sec's Bcs Bowl.

lol... Not much. Just agreeing with JohnnyBall that I am operating with level headed optimism also, and agreeing that mine, nor his, has to get in the way of everyone else's good vibes.

There's enough room for both up in he'e...

Boys on first I was disappointed, then when he said his dream job was TENNESSEE i think he meant it, and then when he got his foot in the door on some top recruits in 6 weeks and now what we got for 2014 class i know he will win and win big here but this year we got to hang in there, coach will get the talent and in year 3 we will win and win big, but we got to hang in there this year, he is working his azz off so we have to give him time he will bring the BIG ORANGE BACK TO THE TOP not just the SEC but the country, fired up think head butt the wall, or do something stupid, go VOL the BIG ORANGE is coming back to the top in the near future.

We are going to go 7 and 5 and win our bowl game and kick azz in recruiting and go 8 and 4 in year 2 and win our bowl game and then in year 3 its on baby we are going to kick the gators and bama azz in the same year and then we the VOL NATION can say we are back.:dance2:

I'm going to take a different approach.

I'm going to say we are back now and leave it up to CBJ to prove me right.

Whining about it for the last few years hasn't really worked well for any of us.

I understood vol8188 different when he talked about beating Cincy. I'm sure we have superior talent than Cincy this year. Look at recruitment rankings or whatever you want to look at. But Cincy/CBJ recruited well for the Big East,, and were successful. CBJ has better talent as the coach of the Vols,, but still plays in the SEC. I think we are seeing a lot of positives since December. The positives will give us another win or 2 that we haven't been getting.

I see a lot of positive from where we were with Dooley for sure, my question was not asking if we win the SEC or beat Bama this year...it was simply the giving of CBJ a pass on the loss to a Dooley coached team is not reasonable imho. See Louisville in their bowl game last year for the example

I think we may have found a coach in CBJ but i am not ready to declare that untill i see what we put on the field.....geee we have not even witnessed a spring game under this staff

I'm not willing to proclaim CBJ the next Saban, but... That UT team was clicking. As has been mentioned 100 times, we had TB, DR and JH all healthy and clicking. It was completely different team than it was after JH went down, both in talent and attitude.

From what I saw, CBJ did a god job with what he had, against what he was against. But it's really the only major blemish on him in the CBJ-to-UT conversation, so I understand why some ignore the above facts and still decide to dwell on it.

:hi:

This upcoming season being his maiden effort in the SEC gauntlet along with the schedule with so many tough ranked teams on the road, to me its a win/win situation. If he goes 6-6 it's his 1st go round, but if he is as advertised-he get some breaks-his roster plays tough because of effort and good coaching-and the teams personality chemistry is right....beating ranked teams on the road is like a rocket to propel our VOLS to the top ten. Go Rockytop!
