Official "eat crow" because Butch was hired here thread

Exactly. So far, I love Butch and what his staff his doing. He has done so much more in a few months than Dooley did in 3 years. However, we saw Dooley salvage a top 10 recruiting class in 2-3 weeks when Kiffin left. I mean, he was able to get Da'Rick, Hunter (LSU commit), JuJuan James, and Antonio Richardson to come. I do, though, have a much better vibe about our recruiting now. I think Butch is going to consistently keep us in the top 10 every year in recruiting. We will know in time if Butch can step up and be more than a recruiter.....he's got to be a gamebreaking coach

Dooely's first class went from a top three to a top ten class. A big portion of the class were early enrollees as well. Tiny was not part of that class. He got Stone.

Now why do you have to go calling me out in this mess of a thread?

I simply agreed with oregonvol's post #84.

I have not criticized or attacked anyone's post here today other than a "slow-your-roll" comment and my criticism of CBJ has been rather limited since he was hired. Let me add that I have not been critical of him in the recruiting arena with the exception of wondering whether he could recruit with the big boys of college football. I had really no criticism of the 2013 class since that wasn't really "his" first class.

Just cause you typically take the, shall we say, "cautious" if not cynical view. Not calling out for any one post in particular but you gotta admit, you haven't exactly been on the CBJ train.

And, you agreed with something, hell anything, OregonVol said soooo..... Honestly, if I erred in lumping you in with those guys, my apologies.

Wow, this thread perfectly illustrates that while most of volnation wants you to wait 3 years before criticizing a coach, they're all too happy to jump the gun and declare him a success before he coaches his first game. Well done.

No. I am not surprised to see you construct this very subtle falsehood... but it is not true.

Many of us want you to wait until someone has a chance to prove themselves before judging and making declarations of certainty. Dooley failed to engage TN HSFB coaches is a criticism. Dooley sucks and will fail... is not a criticism. Unfortunately, there are way too many here who really do not understand the difference... and at least one that seems to intentionally blur the two.

EG...can't say I was wrong because I was (admittedly) more disappointed and focused with the Gruden soap opera than interested in the Jones hiring. However, once I swallowed the facts, I was definitely questioning Coach Jones' ability to recruit at UT and as everyone has expressed....I'm definitely eatin' a lil crow!!! Gladly, I might add!!!

Not that I ever doubted him, but hind-sight is 20/20. How about everyone just admits it was a good hire now that he's already proven to have done more than the last guy and be happy

I still think the coaching search was mismanaged, but I'm pleased with the end result of it so far, that's for damn sure.

Cinci recruiting, per Rivals.

2012 - 50th - CBJ
2011 - 49th - CBJ
2010 - 59th - CBJ
2009 - 60th - CBK
2008 - 67th - CBK
2007 - 89th - CBK
2006 - 108th - CBK
2005 - 94th - Pre-CBK

That is the kind of data I was referring to

He's not going to be able to win in the SEC by pulling legacies and lifelong Vol fans from Nashville. He's got to be able to pull players of Hurd's caliber out of places like Georgia and Florida and South Carolina. I'm sorry, but I'm just not going to accept it as a given that he can recruit at a championship level until I see him getting top players from out of state.

And if he hadn't pulled those legacies everyone would be screaming he's crap run him off.which glass do you like better half empty or half full?

Well, I can't help you if you are paranoid about getting in some kind of e-trouble for arguing with a mod, even when you have been specifically told that it's okay to argue with mods. Keep it clean and reasonably classy and you can call us whatever you want. I'm probably actually less likely to delete or give an infraction for something someone says to me than I am if something out of bounds is said to somebody else.

I would like to point out that I never said anything about anybody's "momma's" basement. I assumed the poster in question was posting from his own. (As was I last night, actually.)

I certainly should have learned by now that "I don't think your level of enthusiasm is warranted yet; I'm not being negative but I'm still in a wait and see mode" is far too nuanced a position to defend in the football forum. It is still aggressively black and white in here, and probably always will be, and whenever you post something in the middle you end up arguing with everybody on both sides.

You are correct. You accused me of living in my own basement. If I had one I would absolutely live there and call it "Smokey's Den"

Not pointing this at you, but I've read several posts that the coaching search was mis-managed. Could you share your thoughts on this??

Well I think that the main problem w recruiting a premier RB is due to the system that CBJ uses on offense. Most preeminent RB's want to play within a pro-style offense.

Do you recall making this post? I think you have been proven wrong. No offense but admit it you were not on the Butch train!

Emotions are out of control... 1 month ago pitchforks were out, now the lovefest.. Struggle early next season and Big East quotes come back out...Will be fun to watch the potential rollercoster

The beginning backlash of mine was not really meant for you at all. My personal opinion is that if my "In question" post was outside of the guidelines it SHOULD HAVE been deleted, at which time I would have gotten the picture, but instead I got the rules and regulations bit thrown at me by someone else, but the only rule that was actually shown was #15. Since that is also there for everyone to see. I have to now be careful as to how I answer any post given by a Mod.

So here is my PC way of answering you.

No sir. I do not agree with the way you "as a fan" respond to people who are only trying to be optimistic and excited about where they feel the program is going. A person starting an "Eat Crow" thread is only doing so, because they feel, that in their opinion, they were wrong in their previous judgement of a coach and or the situation. Said person is merely letting it be known, that they have had a change of heart and are inviting anyone else, who may feel the same way, to do the same.

When someone cannot reply in kind to statements given toward them because of "a different staus" as a fan, it is wrong. When you accuse someone of "living in their mommas basement in Alabama" as a "normal fan", you can be retorted against. When you have a banner under your name that says "I am on the job" it is totally different.

Thank you sir for your time and attention. It has been a great pleasure talking to you today. I am sorry that we are of different opinions on the things that are happening with our beloved football team. We however are both UT fans, and for that I am forever greatful.

How's that? :hi:

Well done Bald. I was gritting my teeth on your behalf.

On first a little let down, not no more Butch will win and win big here, I believe in him, I really think this is his dream job and if so what more can we ask for the wins will come he will get the talent, but Butch will bring us back to the top.

I didn't really like the hire. I didn't know a thing about him other than we spanked his team when they came to town.

He's doing all the right stuff and has gained my approval. Not that that means anything to him or anyone else.

If he can get some quality wins he will be the total package.

I was ready for that.

He has won everywhere he has been. I am not worried about his game planning. I was worried about his sales pitch to allure elite talent. Baring a 4-8, or 3-9 season next year, my fears are completely alleviated.

Agree 100%.

I was so brainwashed by downward spiral years (2005-2012) that I had actually convinced myself that only a "rockstar" coach like Gruden could recruit at a level high enough to compete with the top teams in this conference.

Butch has proven me completely wrong in less than 90 days on the job. To say what CBJ and his staff are doing with the 2014 recruiting class is impressive is a massive understatement.

2 huge RB commits within 3 weeks of Jay Graham leaving for FSU - that was a WOW for me.

IMO something special is going on with this staff/team.

Rise To the Top
Team 117
Path To 7

I'm fully on board for the CBJ era.

Get back to me after he's coached a couple games, namely Oregon and Florida ...

What do you expect from this team going across the country to Oregon and then back to play Florida in the Swamp the next week? I only frame it this way because of the difficult travel circumstances vs two of the better programs in the country, even if we were coming off a 10 win season the year before. Honest question.

Then join me in the camp that doesn't put too much emotion into "eat crow" threads, and doesn't expect too much impact from them. We'll start the "wait and see, while allowing ourselves to hope for the best and giving 'atta-boys' where appropriate" club.

That's good stuff Crush. With you 100%
