Official "eat crow" because Butch was hired here thread

One of the hallmarks of CBJ's offense is that it supposedly isn't very complex so the installation of said offense is quicker than a traditional scheme. His scheme is supposed to be an extension of what a lot of these kids ran in high school so they are more familiar with it conceptually.

That being said, Tennessee has a long way to go before it can even think about playing for an SEC title - You might want to slow your roll on title talk.

His time frame is 3 yrs away minimum. For an SEC championship. That is three full seasons of football.

That would have our returning freshmen in their senior year. The freshmen we have coming in starting their Junior year. Legacy class would be Sophmores.

Why is his timeframe so far off?

Don't apologize to him Crush. Fans have differences of opinions. Fans on VN talk to each other this way. Why, because that's what we do. Statements like this should NEVER come from a Mod. Fan or not, when you log in under the name that says MODERATOR under it, these kind of statements should never appear.

In other words, you seem to think that once a poster agrees to help merge threads on gameday, that means that he has to quit engaging in the discussion/arguments that are the whole point of being on the site to begin with? You expect mods to just sit here and spend hours of our own time on the site, cleaning it up for the rest of you guys without jumping into it ourselves? That's a hell of a sense of entitlement you've got there.

We are not referees. We clean up some of the worst of the trash. That's it.

Speaking on behalf of the Vol Nation, I think CBJ was on the top of everyone's list....

Damn that's both smart and reasonable. OregonVol, Patrick, govol105, Champy, PKTVol and others, please tell me how this isn't reasonable. Nice job Baldy, I'm all in for this post.

Now why do you have to go calling me out in this mess of a thread?

I simply agreed with oregonvol's post #84.

I have not criticized or attacked anyone's post here today other than a "slow-your-roll" comment and my criticism of CBJ has been rather limited since he was hired. Let me add that I have not been critical of him in the recruiting arena with the exception of wondering whether he could recruit with the big boys of college football. I had really no criticism of the 2013 class since that wasn't really "his" first class.

My biggest concern about Jones has always been that his recruiting classes at Cincinnati were bad even by Big East standards.

Hey V could you elaborate on this? I have not crunched the numbers myself but it has been reported that CBJ recruited better at cincy than Kelly did, and that CBJs classes were better than strong's at L'ville.

I am concerned too, but mainly over the 12-9 big least record and the transplanted CMU staff. I thought recruiting might be a relatively bright spot.

First of all. Am I to answer you as if you are a fan? Obviously, as I have been shown...it changes the way I can speak to you. Which by the way makes the bolded statement above carry a lot less weight.

Excuse me If I don't answer until you clarify this. #15 puts me in a no win situation.

At some point shortly after the hire I saw some rankings which really concerned me. I'm running out for awhile but I'll see if I can dig them up when I get back, and will post them in this thread.

My "slow-your-roll" comment was of a general nature - CBJ has yet to coach a down of football at the University of Tennessee - most of the 2013 class has not even practiced one down of football - the 2014 class is almost a year away from the only day that really counts in recruiting.

And before you go all nasty and postal let me say that I too am excited by the recent commits. However even when CPF was knocking down top 5 recruiting classes year in, year out, I reserved judgment on those classes until each recruit had signed the natl letter of intent.

We have seen over the years an increasing number of flip -flops in the recruiting realm.

You are free (and encouraged) to criticize the content of my posts all you want as long as you keep it in all the other guidelines. Don't treat me any differently. The "do not criticize" mods stuff is about criticizing moderator actions -- ie, if I delete posts or something that you don't like, you're not supposed to criticize that. But me? Have at me.

Cinci recruiting, per Rivals.

2012 - 50th - CBJ
2011 - 49th - CBJ
2010 - 59th - CBJ
2009 - 60th - CBK
2008 - 67th - CBK
2007 - 89th - CBK
2006 - 108th - CBK
2005 - 94th - Pre-CBK

I wasn't going to go all nasty and postal. Just wanted your opinion on why you felt his time frame was off. Personally, I feel like we have a shot at his timeframe, but like you said....we're talking about a bunch of unproven players right now.

I don't always go all postal on people. :)

Jerk.

Kidding.

You're good enough. You're smart enough. And dog-gone-it, people like you. :p

I've got high hopes, because he IS getting the best kind of talent and we have seen that he can coach his team up.

I had my doubts about Coach Jones when He was hired. The doubts left me when i listened to His presser. He sounded like He had a plan in mind.

I love the Butch Jones hire, I believe he will do a great job at UT. But i`m not ready to make him a recruiting god just yet. I don`t know for sure if TKjr. or Hurd would have went somewhere else or not but I think one being a legacy and the other being an in-state life long fan of UT that odds where high that when it came to push and shove that they both would have ended up at UT anyway. Hurd himself said he knew in his heart he was going to UT. Butch got North and Dobbs to come here and that was awesome with the short amount of time he had to recruit at UT but saying you are ready to eat crow is premature.

Dude for the 1000th time, BOTH of those young men said they would NOT have been attending the University of Tennessee had Dooley still been the coach. STRAIGHT from their mouths. Not conjecture or supposition from fans. THEY SAID IT. LOL. I'm sure UT is where Hurd's heart has always been but he wouldn't have followed his heart had DD stayed.

Do you deny that both of these recruits stated that they wouldn't have came to UT if Dooley was still the coach??

The beginning backlash of mine was not really meant for you at all. My personal opinion is that if my "In question" post was outside of the guidelines it SHOULD HAVE been deleted, at which time I would have gotten the picture, but instead I got the rules and regulations bit thrown at me by someone else, but the only rule that was actually shown was #15. Since that is also there for everyone to see. I have to now be careful as to how I answer any post given by a Mod.

So here is my PC way of answering you.

No sir. I do not agree with the way you "as a fan" respond to people who are only trying to be optimistic and excited about where they feel the program is going. A person starting an "Eat Crow" thread is only doing so, because they feel, that in their opinion, they were wrong in their previous judgement of a coach and or the situation. Said person is merely letting it be known, that they have had a change of heart and are inviting anyone else, who may feel the same way, to do the same.

When someone cannot reply in kind to statements given toward them because of "a different staus" as a fan, it is wrong. When you accuse someone of "living in their mommas basement in Alabama" as a "normal fan", you can be retorted against. When you have a banner under your name that says "I am on the job" it is totally different.

Thank you sir for your time and attention. It has been a great pleasure talking to you today. I am sorry that we are of different opinions on the things that are happening with our beloved football team. We however are both UT fans, and for that I am forever greatful.

How's that? :hi:

Its okay to have a wait and see approach before you eat your crow. He's 0-0 so far. But you can't deny what he has done so far isn't pretty damn impressive. Hurd is the biggest recruit we've gotten since Manning. Not to mention he's got Kelley, Hurd, and Vic on board, committed, and getting other top potential recruits excited about playing in Knoxville. CBJ has got the fans excited again!. He may be 0-0 but this offseason he is batting a thousand!
The biggest since Bryce Brown who was the #1 recruit in the country. That was pretty big dude. But I get what you're saying.

Well, I can't help you if you are paranoid about getting in some kind of e-trouble for arguing with a mod, even when you have been specifically told that it's okay to argue with mods. Keep it clean and reasonably classy and you can call us whatever you want. I'm probably actually less likely to delete or give an infraction for something someone says to me than I am if something out of bounds is said to somebody else.

I would like to point out that I never said anything about anybody's "momma's" basement. I assumed the poster in question was posting from his own. (As was I last night, actually.)

I certainly should have learned by now that "I don't think your level of enthusiasm is warranted yet; I'm not being negative but I'm still in a wait and see mode" is far too nuanced a position to defend in the football forum. It is still aggressively black and white in here, and probably always will be, and whenever you post something in the middle you end up arguing with everybody on both sides.

lol....i had to go back and look again. I did throw the "momma's basement" in myself. Ooooops

If I truely were paranoid, I wouldn't have responded to you at all. Tweak your sarcasm meter just a touch.

As far as the rest of your reply goes... I think the biggest majority of fans are in wait and see mode as far as in game coaching and the product on the field goes. I know I am. But there are a large number of us that choose to "In March" not dwell on what is still months away. We choose to be excited about what is going on now with recruiiting. With the handling of practices. With the revived good feel in the fan base as a whole and with the way our coaches, players and recruits are handling everything in general.

Which do you really think is more unwarrented RIGHT NOW? Not five or six months from now. Enthusiasm or a lack of enthusiasm.

As far as the bolded goes....did I not do the same thing. Take up for someone else?
