Official "eat crow" because Butch was hired here thread

No they weren't. That just isn't true. Be doubtful all you want. That's fine with me. Just don't see a reason to criticize others who have a more positive outlook.

Guys like Isaiah Pead are guys Butch is comfortable with and if you remember correctly, he ran all over us and other opponents. He is now making some pretty good bank

I'm pretty confident that unlike the other guy, Jones is at least a football coach. I'm not really worried about that aspect of it at all. But in this conference, just being a good coach isn't going to be enough, not with all the talent the other teams pull in. His staff's lack of recruiting success in the past and lack of connections in the south was concerning. He's now off to a great start, certainly, but I need to see more before I'm going to cross it off the list.

Cf. the Bret Bielema hire at Arkansas. Hell of a football coach. No history of recruiting well. In a division with Alabama and LSU. If I were an Arkansas fan I'd have the same concerns.

Before you say he didn't have any past recruiting success, go back and look at the Cinci Rivals team rankings for the 3 years with Brian Kelly and the 3 years with Butch. If you take only the last 2 full recruiting cycles to their credit (2008-9, 2011-12), Kelly's staff had an average team ranking of 63.5, while Butch's staff averaged 49.5. I believe that we can statistically say that Butch was better than Kelly given the same situation...and Kelly's done quite alright at ND. Projecting Butch's recruiting abilities versus Kelly's at big-time programs places us squarely in the top 10 on an annual basis. Regardless of where we all think we should be, a successful recruiter will place us in the top 10 on an annual basis.

Wow, this thread perfectly illustrates that while most of volnation wants you to wait 3 years before criticizing a coach, they're all too happy to jump the gun and declare him a success before he coaches his first game. Well done.

Amen oregonvol.

He's heading in the right direction.. These threads are just totally unnecessary. It's still way too early to be calling it anything right now..

That's simply the difference between an optimist and a pessimist. So an optimist takes an "innocent until proven guilty" approach, whereas the pessimist is always out to "convict" before it's proven.

How dare anyone be hopeful and excited for thinking the team finally has a good coach and good recruiter. Ticks me off just THINKING about how someone could possibly be so optimistic..... :loco:

If "better than Derek Dooley" was the criterion for the hire, then we should have just torn down Neyland Stadium and moved the Ag Campus closer in.

I am not crapping on Jones at all. I just think it's way way premature for a victory lap.

I don't think we're ready to run a victory lap. But if you don't see the VAST difference with Jones over Doofus then you're not looking.

Good lord. We have an irrational fan base.

1) There is no problem voicing pleasure over our recruiting. Just keep in mind we have been blessed this recruiting season with very talented in state legacies.

2) What does what I said having anything to do with you cheering for UT?

He is an unproven commodity at this level; plain and simple. Anytime morons want to jump the gun on an "eating crow" thread before the coach's first spring practice is over, I am going to knock him back down to reality.

What have are 2 camps:
1. Fans who love the Vols, want to win, and are feeling very positive about how Butch has conducted himself to this point, including landing some really good recruits early. For this, we feel very optimistic.
2. Negative arse curmudgeons who find with everything and don't want to give credit to anything Butch (or honestly it would be any coach) has done thus far. These tend to be the "it don't mean nothin less he wins at least 7 games and the "he ain't never coached in the SEC" so he sucks crowd.

Guess which camp you're in? Nobody gives a crap really... Knock away chief. It ain't gonna take.

Finally, Creamer, Hurd and Thomas are not instate legacies, and if Butch weren't here, we definitely wouldn't have commits from Hurd, TKJr, Wharton and Thomas. Not sure about Creamer

Neither is Paulk, who just committed. :clapping:

I love the Butch Jones hire, I believe he will do a great job at UT. But i`m not ready to make him a recruiting god just yet. I don`t know for sure if TKjr. or Hurd would have went somewhere else or not but I think one being a legacy and the other being an in-state life long fan of UT that odds where high that when it came to push and shove that they both would have ended up at UT anyway. Hurd himself said he knew in his heart he was going to UT. Butch got North and Dobbs to come here and that was awesome with the short amount of time he had to recruit at UT but saying you are ready to eat crow is premature.

Whether they were or not does not really matter to me. CBJ WON with those teams.

He is now showing he can recruit in the SEC too.

It looks like, at least by the videos i'm seeing, that he and his staff can coach in practice.

He definate;y is showing that he can change the fan bases (for the most part) attitude.

The only thing that I see we are waiting for is to see if he can bring the same in game coachng to the SEC.

Until the season starts and we see the on the field product...I choose to be elated by what I am seeing so far.

I'll use the same response that the "not so positive" posters use. If you don't like what I am saying...use the ignore button.

Damn that's both smart and reasonable. OregonVol, Patrick, govol105, Champy, PKTVol and others, please tell me how this isn't reasonable. Nice job Baldy, I'm all in for this post.

You mean, as compared to making subjective judgments for other people (OP) as to when they should eat their own crow? I have some frozen chicken in my freezer. What agency do I contact to tell me how long before cooking it?

Jones can only get in-state legacies. Get that crap out of here.

Hurd- not a legacy
Paulk- neither instate nor a legacy
Thomas- ditto
Creamer- not instate

ONLY instate legacies?

You were saying chief?....

When we win games in September in Knoxville, I'll be sure to thank the big man upstairs for your mindset in your Alabama basement in March. Won't be able to have done it without you.

We don't have basements in Alabubba. The ground is red dirt clay and the water table is too high. We have one hell of a beach though. Maybe you should come out of your basement and come on down to Orange Beach.

Thank you both. Considering how bad and really down I was feeling about the tounge lashing I took earlier (NOT), you have me feeling so much better about myself now. :)

That's 4 of 6 the debunk your inaccurate post

The difference maker is that he has gotten Hurd and Kelly Jr. to pull the trigger so early. Both guys were very adamant to wait till the end of their season, but Butch got them to commit very early. The fact that it has shocked Brent and other VQ mods should be very encouraging for vol fans.

Post 136 (Supporting the argument that CBJ can recruit non-legacy players from out of state.)

Really? You may want to slow down a little and stop posting until you have your sarcasm meter calibrated.

:hi:

I'm guessing we will see about 35% of what his system can do this year with current players. We should be full throttle and pushing for an SEC title by 2015 and a BCS title by 2016

One of the hallmarks of CBJ's offense is that it supposedly isn't very complex so the installation of said offense is quicker than a traditional scheme. His scheme is supposed to be an extension of what a lot of these kids ran in high school so they are more familiar with it conceptually.

That being said, Tennessee has a long way to go before it can even think about playing for an SEC title - You might want to slow your roll on title talk.
