Official Gramps' Memorial Eternal OT Thread

Only the fecking gators get that lucky man....dangit.

They should realistically be 0 and 3 man.

South fla was down by 3...had their defense gassed and backing up like they were on roller skates....get stopped finally around the 20yd line....line up for FG to send it to OT with momentum BIGTIME on their side and the gators gassed....the freaking holder on thw FG loses his dang mind...or was bribed bigtime....cannot even get the ball down right...LAYS the ball down on the ground long ways with the TIP pointed at the kicker.....he still barely missed it. despite actually kicking the pointed part of the ball instead of the center....he misses it wide right by a couple feet. They had the gators on the ropes.

gators ALL SEC defensive end (they ALWAYS have 1, right???) Is nearly unblockable and will be all over Hooker since left tackle is our weakest position (AND we start a former gator there this season)

He is very dangerous.

Other than him we are better than them everywhere. Seriously. Everywhere. We should win this game by 14 or more.

We know that means nothing tho...we have to execute next week.

We will. VOLS by 14 to start a NEW streak. They have won 16 of last 17 and 5 in a row.

No more.

Just as a reminder... even when Florida has a 1-11 year, somehow that one game they will play like Nattty championship caliber.

And that opponent always happens to be the Vols.

Don't get hyped until after the game is over and we have the W.

I pay $225/mo for cable and internet. I have 2 SEC network channels of which one is not being used for this game so the suck network can stream it. I like my ability to record a game and pause it and delay it enough to skip by commercials. They owe me some of my money back.

I called my sister a couple of days ago to let her know I was here in house #2. She works for the rural coop that provides phone service and then expanded to cable, etc. Turns out they are getting ready to install fiber optic cable here for something like $58/mo - 1G up and down. Spectrum gets their notice just as soon as the installation is done. I'm paying more for less. The Spectrum internet has been OK, but not the cost ... and I've learned a lot about their sneaky marketing practices.

You really need to drop your cable and stream. However, one thing that any rational person would have realized a few years ago was that the gap between cable and streaming services would close as people made the change; it's possible that cable will either just go away or the companies will realize they have to find a way to drastically alter their rate structure to stay in business. The streaming services may find they are killing the goose that's been providing their gold, too. You get the impression that schools of business may touch on supply and demand but have no clue about elasticity and competition - and apparently they think marketing covers all the accumulated business stupidity. You could make a good argument that business logic is about the same as entropy - ever expanding loss associated with friction, fiction, disorder, and general lack of coherent thinking.

I have spent most of the first damn half fighting with the damn smart TV I am now updating the old ass software hoping that fixes airplay I’m watching it on the iPad. Hopefully I can get it patched before halftime and screw with AirPlay then. Dammit

I realized tonight that although I have a Roku and Fire stick that I can basically do everything I want on my Samsung TV. I don't and won't because Samsung bundled this absurd remote that is basically worthless. Buttons that should push are are ergonomically challenged up and down rocker nonsense - and there's nothing resembling the FF, Rew, Pause controls that you need for program control. Apparently "Smart" and marketing/design do not exist in the same universe.

I thought it was idiot proof it’s freaking AirPlay. Apparently I’m a special kind of idiot. I gave up on the damn tv watching it on the ipad

You know when something works that the next update is going to break it. We should name it "Smart Law". MS and a lot of other tech companies have it down to an art.

Why didn't you @ me, bro...
I was “engineering” it. I pulled up the ESPN app on the iPad and tried to AirPlay it to the smart TV. Airplay has always been easy for me to do. I was making it more complicated than it needed to be.

This particular smart TV was just a dedicated XBox monitor I never bothered to set it up on the home network. But when I struggled with airplay I decided to put it on the network and update the software which I did. Still had airplay issues so said F it and just watched on iPad no biggie

But after the game it dawned on me “hey dumbass now that you finally networked the smart TV just load the ESPN streaming app and activate it”. Just like you said🤷‍♂️

I over thought it. I normally try to use the 65” TV in the family room for this stuff but it’s too old. This TV is from 2018 and after the update I just setup the ESPN app and activated with my TV subscriber account and now it works fine. Dammit…

No biggie I got to watch the game.

To be honest, I can get AT&T fiber internet that starts at $55/mo for the same speed Charter is offering for $80/mo, and I may end up going that route. I have a problem with streaming services vs. cable. I have Tivo DVR's and have for probably 20 years and have gotten accustomed to recording shows or pausing live shows, so I can skip the God awful commercials that seem to last for a minimum of 5 minutes at a time now. To be honest, it's worth an extra $100/mo to me in the aggravation that I feel when I'm forced to sit through commercials or use some crude fast-forward button to skip through 4-5 minutes of them and try and stop at the right time when with a Tivo it either skips them all with one button press or skips in 30 second blocks. If I could find a streaming service that does the same thing, I'd sign up right away.
As it stands, Tivo's require a credit card sized decoder that the FCC used to require cable offer so 3rd party companies could compete in fields like DVR's etc, but a couple of years ago they rescinded that mandate, and now it's just a matter of time before my Tivo's will become useless.
In the meantime, I'm sticking with my musty old ways of doing things, even if it does cost me more money.

If you are within range of broadcast TV, you might look at the Tivo OTA Edge sold through Channel Master. The local stations are broadcasting multiple sub channels, so you aren't just limited to the major networks.

TiVo Edge Antenna DVR - 500GB (with All-In Service)

One real plus is that the $299 sale price includes the "All-in Service" - you don't have to pay the Tivo subscription or transfer what you have. The box is nice and small, the HDMI out is 4K, and I don't remember seeing a fan that will eventually start to screech ... we've had Tivos for a while, too. The downsides that I can see are that it is not the newest OTA broadcast standard being rolled out right now, only has two tuners, and the picture doesn't always seem to be quite as sharp as what I see with my other 4K devices like Fire and Roku, but that may have a lot to do with local broadcasters. This particular Tivo does not work with cable - only broadcast TV.

Anyway with Tivo and streaming, we really don't miss cable at all.

So after the freaking game I finally got the ESPN app installed on the smart TV and activated. Any bets that I won’t need it for the remainder of the season? Dammit…

I hit a snag last night, too. It turns out that YouTube TV showed the game upcoming with the correct time, but when you clicked to start it only showed the replay time on Tuesday. After several attempts I used YouTube like Marcus suggested. When I texted my son and told him what I'd found out, he told me I could get it through ESPN on Hulu. That worked great, but I was way behind at the end because ESPN+ wouldn't let me FF through the commercials. I don't particularly care if I'm behind when watching the game, but I definitely don't want to have to watch a replay a few days later.

I still say there should be an a la carte type of service where you just pick single channels you want without having to do a "basic" subscription.

I.E. if I just wanted ESPN, ESPN2, SECN, et al and pay like $5 a month per channel, I could.
Will never happen. They’ve got to sell those 200 channels of Gilligans Island and Brady Bunch reruns they’ve bought

I hate that gameday is coming to Knoxvegas for the game next week. They suck....we all know it . Have we ever won a game when these clowns bring the SC set to UT? Seems like we always lost but i could be wrong...

Btw...we have a better team at nearly every position than they do...and their QB has like a 36 QBR year to date. His backup is surely Peyton on steroids that runs a 4.3 flat but hopefully we do not see him....Vols by 14.
