Gotta win then all to get to Atlanta anyway.

Actually the easiest path is probably to beat Bama then lose to UGA. The loss to UGA in regular season would mean we didnt make the SEC champ game ....thereby we wouldn't have to beat bama twice to make the playoffs. An 11-1 Vols team whose only loss was to UGA would make the playoffs. Having to play in and win the SECCG is a huge burden honestly. Does a 2 loss UT team make the playoffs with both losses to Bama? What about a 2 loss UT team which got beat by both the Gumps and Pups in regular season?

I think an 11-1 season with 1 loss to UGA being our only blemish and keeping us out of the championship game is by far the easiest route to the playoffs IMO

Understood Marcus but I was really just referring to the yearly path to the SEC champ game. I’m general you’ve got to run the table in your division to get to Atlanta to even have a chance. I’m not even thinking playoffs yet.

Do yourself a solid and peek at our recruiting class. We have 6 or 7 coming in.

Calm down, junior, I'm aware of what we have coming in.

Still doesn't change the fact our secondary is really young and will need seasoning before being dangerous. Our front seven are good and really good at getting into the backfield and disrupting a QB. But if (when) we come across an O-line that can hold a pocket long enough, a talented QB will be able to shred our secondary. Let's just hope we can get past the Bama and UGA lines enough to cover for blown assignments.

It is what it is at this point, but it is a glaring weakness in our defense. Yet another gift Pruitt and company left us.

One thing that does worry me a bit is the lack of reps for Milton. Yeah, he really isn't the baller Hooker is, but he really needs some clean up reps just in case.

BVS kicking in and I've seen us need a backup when we really need a backup.

Due respect, Methuselah... I'm not the one moaning here ;-)

I'm just happy to be here. You rewind to 1 year and 2 months ago... the situation was as hapless as it was grim. The violations, the headscratching hire, the transfer portal exodus.

No second year coach has any business being at this level after walking into that.

Dude has worked miracles since being here, no doubt there. And one thing I'll give him mad credit for compared to our last coaches is the fact he's not only getting talent, they are performing at high levels. One thing about Butch was the fact he pulled in mad talent and I think the players won in spite of him rather than because of his game plan... or lack thereof. Something Hype doesn't seem to have a problem with.

If he continues this and starts putting a lot more players in the NFL, recruiting gets way easier. Not to say he won't have to work at it, but the talent goes where they not only get coached up, but where they get the most exposure and the chance to play on Sundays.

I normally give coaches three years before making a determination on whether I like them or not. He got over that with me last year.

Matthews, for sure. Conyer needs another 10-15 pounds on him but his athleticism is astounding.

I think Conyer could play ST as well as defense. I bet they fatten him up when he gets to campus.

I would keep an eye on Slaughter as well. I think he's the sleeper of that class. Dude is the right size and height and has the hands to be a big impact as a safety or a BD.

Oklahoma State player smartly exploits NCAA fair catch rule to ruin a Texas Tech onside kick

If the ball goes airborn....on an onsides kick...the receiver whom the ball is headed toward can call FOR A FAIR CATCH and is given all the protections given a player fielding a regular punt or kickoff.

Wow!!! OKSU special teams coach used the rule book to get his team the ball AFTER it had traveled 10 yards and been recovered by the kicking team!!! Kudos for him knowing the rules best. Bravo....

From now on either:

1. Teams will seriously alter onsides kicks and make them all squibkick kinda corkscew balls that never leave the ground ....or....

2.The NCAA will have to change the wording of that rule to remove the fair catch from onside kicks altogether....OR clarify that the intent of the rule IS to make the onside kick a VERY low % play that should ONLY be used in desperation at the end of the half/regulation when a team is behind and likely will never have posession of the ball again without a successful onsides conversion.

Either way....wow.

You saw that, too. I was going to bring it up here. Gotta love it when somebody is heads up enough to do stuff like that. Sure would have been nice if that happened before the FL game, and FL didn't get the second onside kick. The even better part was that TX Tech wound up with a penalty for snagging the ball when a fair catch was called. Makes you wonder if the kid thought it up or was coached to try the onside call - or if it was just a reaction to catching a ball when covered by defenders. Apparently intelligent stuff happens even in OK from time to time. :D

We have 14 DBs here on scholarship now...of those 1 of them was a legit 4 star coming out of HS/portal to UT from what i have read. The rest were 3 stars.

We have 7 (!!!) DBs already committed in this 2023 class so far. Nearly all of them are 4 stars...some right at 5 stars...and the lowest rated from last that i saw was Jack "white lightnin" Luttrell who is a safety out of GA that is a high 3 star thats rated as a 4 star on 1 service but a 3star composite. The comparison i read said that Jack Luttrell is ranked higher than 11 out of our current 14 players at DB. ....but ranked 7th out of 7 new DBs for the 23 class!!! That should give an indication on talent thats coming to compete for playing time from day 1 guys.

Go VOLS!!! WGWTFA!!!

I read about Luttrell - seems like almost two years ago, and I don't follow recruiting - just happens his last name matches a good HS friend and I wondered if there might be a connection. Reading about him made me wonder if he might be the next Eddie Brown.

It seems that if you have an SECCG then the SEC cross division games shouldn't count in determining the division winner and championship game representative. Right now TN and GA's permanent western division (AU???) partner are pretty well screwed. Looks like for a few years we and whoever that is are going to be playing the nationally ranked number 1 and 2 teams. Not many other teams in football have that kind of albatross hanging around their neck.

Since Alabama got demoted today to #3, and we moved up to #6 we have an easier game than if we played them last week. You gotta look at the bright side.

It always looked like Butch hired by recruiting stars and didn't pay much attention to whether the guys he recruited fit team needs, and the puzzle pieces didn't fit together well to make a complete picture.

Yep - should be a pushover.

Anyway it's amazing that AL and GA have stayed 1 & 2 as long as they have. There's always a push by certain areas of the country to crown teams like OH St, ND, and USC before the season even starts.
