Official Gramps' Memorial Eternal OT Thread

Anyone have a vintage home HiFi system? Looking at some youtube videos and the gear is so bad ass..Good turntable, amp and some JBLs would be awesome.

A friend ofmine used to have this greatsystem dowstairs where he lived with his parents. We were 16-17 years yo and she bought us all beer and boy did we have some parties, cranking Ozzy. She thought if we were going to party, better at home lol. That was fun crazy times.
This was posted in "side hustle " thread.

I thought of you. Maybe he's a resource for you.
Bought and sold high end hifi for about 15 years. As I got older the equipment started weighing too much so I quit.
I enjoyed it. I got to listen to everything under the sun in my home. Even shipped some speakers to Australia.

The oldest hifi I’ve got is from around 92. My Cerwin Vega DX-3’s and the rear channel L7B’s. The amp I had on them got fried in a storm so I’ve got a newer Pioneer Elite Class AB audio video amp. All the stuff in the 10 year old new house is Polk Audio in wall speakers with a big ass Polk sub hooked up to another Pioneer Elite but this is a class D switching amp. So yeah… I like high end Pioneer 🤷‍♂️

Tasteful images incoming..
He prefers the raunchier ones. Tasteful is just not his bag.

Audiogon
That is the website I used to buy and sell used equipment.
There might be other sites now. I haven't bought/sold anything in 10 years.

Ever know somebody that it seems like God made them just excellent in nearly every way?

^^^ that dude was so smart he was a Rhodes Scholar. So tiny fraction maybe .00001% scholastic wise. A genius. Played college football in div3 or something.. Wrote several Billboard #1 hits including "Me and Bobby McGee" recorded by other people..also "Sunday morning coming down" Had a damn good singing voice himself and was a pretty good guitar player...and no-homo dude was an absolute pimp that literally could sleep with the most beautiful women in the world, 1 after the other. Was lucky enough to go from clean cut college kid to California hippie making music and smoking dope back in the 60s/early 70s when San Francisco was likely the best place to be living on planet Earth.Hung out with Willie, Waylan, and Johnny then made a super group with them . That dude lived enough good life for a dozen men that were 100% winners themselves. I bet he could tell stories for days and days. Rest in peace K.K.

^^ this is from memory and i am sure i left out all kinds of stuff. My Dad was a huge fan of him and his buddies and we used to listen to all those records. I am sure his obituary/wiki has lots more about this dude. He was one lucky guy that much is for sure.

You realize Kristofferson was a military brat, too - AF. So were the Smothers brothers and John Denver among others. Maybe there's the thing about being uprooted and getting restarted every few years that brings out the best and creativeness in some people ... and stubbornness and independence in some of the rest of us. I've heard many times "that must have been terrible", but I wouldn't have traded that start in life for anything.
