Official Jon Gruden Thread II (merged)

And I don't see the deck as being stacked against a good coach at UT. A really good coach (Saban, Meyer, hopefully Gruden) wouldn't have a problem winning here with the team and facilities we have right now as a starting off point.

Coaching UT or college is much easier than the Browns or NFL. Ask Saban, Petrino, spurrier, or Pete Carroll.

Ok, fair point I guess. But what if he takes the job then Jerry Jones poaches him after a year or two? Lane Kiffin 2.0. Do you really think a guy like Gruden would be committed to UT for the long term? He's the color com for Monday Night Football; he's use to a lot more attention and a bigger atmosphere than what Knoxville provides--personally as well as professionally.

I've never attacked a poster. But I will go after a flawed argument.

You keep questioning why you are attacked, acknowledging that you have not read an of the thread.

Then you tell a new poster to go back prior in the thread to read your previous posts.

Your questions and arguments wouldnt be original if the first dozen to post them were removed from the conversation.

This, more than anything, is why you are being attacked. :eek:k:

Not sure I follow. My argument is flawed because my response to a childish insult doesn't suit you? I've read a lot of this thread, I just can't remember exactly which insider has which exact stance. Forgive me.

And it's clear I was being attacked simply because I challenged a few posters to apply the same standards to themselves as they do others.

One more note, for the benefit of those who think we're rooting against UT. While watching the Bama game, I felt shifting emotions of both GBO and apathy. Seeing us do something good made me think, "GBO." Seeing bad plays made me feel apathetic. That flicker of "GBO" is the flicker of hope CDD has to turn this around.

You scared it might happen? Post 43. Fart On!

You were actually a decent poster last time we talked, shame you've gone all immature little brat. And I don't see how USC has anything to do with this...UT's probs are with UF, Bama, UGA and the other school that likes to use our initials.

Gruden could leave and I would still have more respect than to compare him to that bastard that coaches out in California. You see , he has actually won something in his lifetime. Kiffin 2.0? Shhhhheeeeeeeiiitt.

Ernest, Gruden could have the Cleveland job if he called and asked for it. Is it really unreasonable to doubt he'd want to spend the next (5) seasons rebuilding in a conference where the deck will be stacked against him?

I thought you said no NFL team wants to hire Gruden. Which is it?

This is all entirely my opinion, but if he wants to go to the NFL, then go. He's had plenty of opportunities and a lot of GMs would fire their coach tomorrow if Gruden called and said he wanted the job. So IF he goes to college, I don't see why he would bail for the NFL in 2 years. He has nothing to prove in order to get an NFL job, why take a 2 year detour if the NFL is what you want?

What I meant is UF ain't gonna fall off the earth like some were predicting post-Meyer. Same goes for the other top dogs in the conference. In college, Gruden will have to scheme for the Spread, fight recruiting battles where other SEC schools cheat to get players, tow the line with silly NCAA rules, recruit constantly, etc.

The NFL has none of that.

Not trying to be a jerk and call you out, but that is impossible. If DD had been told anything like that word would leak. Secondly, why would Hart tell him that mid-season before tonight's game? If DD was a dead man walking, Hart would keep it quite and go about his search with DD being the last to know before the public.

I have no idea either way, but him telling us would be the definition of it leaking.

I've got a better chance at performing a 360 dunk blindfolded, than Gruden agreeing to work with Jerry Jones.

NFL is built for equality. College teams with the right coach can be dominate.

Same old ****. Go worry about your team that chokes to someone they shouldn't every year. You call me a little brat? What are you , 13? Grow up and get the hell on.

The point was IF he looked attractive to an NFL GM as a result of his success, then it's highly unlikely he'd set up shop in K-town for the next 5-9 years. Again, we are talking about the color com of MNF...think about that for a second. A guy who is one of the faces of the NFL is gonna roll up his sleeves and take on a rebuilding job for a school that hasn't won it's conference since '98?

I guess it could happen, but I'm still surprised it has this much traction.

I agree it won't be easy, but a great coach can do it. It just depends on whether or not he wants to do it. The NFL has its own set of challenges though. You can't just go out and recruit a bunch of 5* to fit your scheme in the NFL. You're at the mercy of your GM to supply you with player he thinks are best for you.

But nothing is 100%, right Jay? You're just passing along what you've heard, correct? That's what you've posted in the past, that nothing is 100%. But then you confuse me with posts like the one above.

I have not claimed anything to be a lock. The post I replied to was claiming absolutes.

I never had a beef with you. You're the one who was acting like an idiot a couple of months back trying to trash USC and then cussing everyone out who disagreed with you. I stayed civil, but realized you don't actually want to discuss anything, just stir up trouble.
