Not sure I follow. My argument is flawed because my response to a childish insult doesn't suit you? I've read a lot of this thread, I just can't remember exactly which insider has which exact stance. Forgive me.

And it's clear I was being attacked simply because I challenged a few posters to apply the same standards to themselves as they do others.

Maybe argument wasnt the best choice of word in that context. I was addressing the specific response I quoted.

You chose to bring arguments which have been hashed and rehashed many times. In the process you willfully admitted that you hadnt read the whole thread. Are you surprised that the same people who had to have the same conversation again were not happy?

:hi:

I agree it won't be easy, but a great coach can do it. It just depends on whether or not he wants to do it. The NFL has its own set of challenges though. You can't just go out and recruit a bunch of 5* to fit your scheme in the NFL. You're at the mercy of your GM to supply you with player he thinks are best for you.

Oh I agree. There's a reason coaches get fired and whatever situation he walks into most likely will present challenges. Just think people are hearing what they want and letting the "group think" run away with this one. But whatev. I'll support whoever they hire.

I never had a beef with you. You're the one who was acting like an idiot a couple of months back trying to trash USC and then cussing everyone out who disagreed with you. I stayed civil, but realized you don't actually want to discuss anything, just stir up trouble.

You got me mixed up with your USC friend. You took my side. Take a look back. I've made more points and posted more facts than you have in your attempt to come across as a Tennessee fan. Remember your post that you quoted "We had beef with that USC fan". The truth is you had problems. Not me. Like I said , grow up and gtfo. You want to say I'm here to stir up trouble? Look in the mirror. That's what you condom fans do most of the time anyway. Fart On!

The point was IF he looked attractive to an NFL GM as a result of his success, then it's highly unlikely he'd set up shop in K-town for the next 5-9 years. Again, we are talking about the color com of MNF...think about that for a second. A guy who is one of the faces of the NFL is gonna roll up his sleeves and take on a rebuilding job for a school that hasn't won it's conference since '98?

I guess it could happen, but I'm still surprised it has this much traction.

First off, Gruden doesn't need college to make himself attractive to NFL owners. Secondly, if he wanted an NFL job, he could have it.

Has everyone except me read the entire thread and committed it to memory? If so that's pretty darn impressive and I may be in over my head around here. Lol.

I'm still not following you, but it's late and It's past my bed time so it's probably on me. I wasn't trying to rehash old arguments, just pointing out the double standard of some posters.

No. I remember Absentee acting like he was God's gift and trying to set people straight and we both justifiably called him out for it. But, you still kept up the same BS about LK--even though I made it clear he was far from my first choice and I was caught in a bad situation since I really enjoy following UT as well.

Then you track me to this thread and try to stir up more bs. "Fart On?" Ha..I mean I did laugh...

Was told Dooley had the choice to resign or be fired by Monday. I hsve no clue if it's reliable.

We can only hope. But if we do fire him Monday (or whenever really) and don't get Gruden or someone else who is a proven winner, but instead settle for an 'up and comer', I might lose my mind.

I get what you're saying. My point was since he's an established name there are those on here who think he's the #1 applicant in both NFL and college ranks. (I personally disagree by pointing out he's been unemployed awhile and there must be a reason NFL GMs don't want to work with him).

However, I'm saying if he comes to UT and has success, it seems unlikely he'd be content to build here--moving his family, turning his back on the League, etc--for the next 10 years or whatever. Plus, I pointed out how I think the college game will test him.

For those who keep pointing out Pete Carroll, did you notice the PAc-10 started to implement the Spread and mobile QBs? He admitted scheming for something new week in week out was not something that fir his skill set from the NFL. The SEC will be considerably tougher and Gruden won't have Leinart or Bush to lean on like Pete did.

And yet, plenty of coaches can juggle recruiting and week to week game planing.

NCAA Basketball coaches have it rough with
2 games a week and don't even get me started on the tournament.

Not trying to be a jerk. I'm really not. Just think logically about what you are saying.

BTW, game planning in the NFL is MUCH harder than college.

Look man , I have nothing against you personally. But if "You laughed" then you should know it wasn't anything against you. Tennessee fans (to the core) don't want to hear outsiders telling us anything about our coaching situation at this point. I don't spend my time "cussing" people , and you know that AT had everything coming to him. At least you made sense in that thread. And the only thing I ever said about "Born on 3rd base" was that he could have done things differently. I can't fault the bastard for calling recruits days later. But not while you are giving a half ass speech about leaving at Tennessee. That's all I have to say. I believe you know what I mean , so no disrespect.

Go Vols! And you guys out west , Fight On! That better? I try to joke with some people , but this isn't the time. And that goes for most here. We are ready to move on. Opinions in this thread are always welcome. But don't believe for a second we aren't for this hire. We are sick to death of hearing why this and why that won't work. You and I have no proof , but I (and several others) like our chances with CJG.

Last points before I'm zzzzz

Yes, lots of coaches juggle the responsibilities. But, they usually have a little taste of what they're getting into ie. moving around for several jobs is common every few years. The Gruden family has been based in Tampa since '02 and haven't moved. For JG to pick up the fam and move to a small city in the mid-south seems unlikely (not saying 0% chance...just hard to picture) since it would represent a radically different lifestyle.

Look, I'm not necessarily "anti-Gruden." I just see it as a flashy reach type hire...it doesn't feel like Tennessee Football to have a color commentator for the NFL come in and see if this experiment suits him. I enjoy following UT because they are the polar opposite of USC. UT gets less-heralded guys, but coaches them up to play hard-nosed, smashmouth football. At USC, we're finesse and flash. Guess that's why this struck me almost as a joke cuz it's something we'd do here in Hollywood. But like I said, I'll support whatever.

Alright, I like you again...I've been alil edgy dealing with bama transplants the last few hours. And if this is what the UT fans want, then I'll support it.

So you've read approximately 20,000 posts. I believe you

You don't take me at my word Oldvol? And I thought you and I were becoming friends. You're probably right, though. I might have missed a day or two along the way. Tell you what, we can settle this very easily. Simply point me to this proof in the thread you're referencing. That should be easy, assuming these posts actually exist. This is an excellent opportunity for you to score one for your side and enhance your ecred, since I'll be forced to admit, in front of everyone, that you were right.

I look forward to your response.

Pretty sure he said in his post that he wasn't sure it was reliable.

Then he and I agree. It just seems like a hedged bet. Throw out a rumor, then quickly state you don't believe it. If the rumor pans out, his e-cred skyrockets. If it doesn't come to pass, he told us it wasn't reliable. Seems like a win win for him.

I'm learning a lot tonight. Let me give this a try.

Hey volnation I've been told by my source tonight that Derek Dooley will coach against South Carolina. This is super secret inside stuff, but I haven't confirmed it with my other inside sources yet, so believe it at your own risk. I'm not trying to convince anyone of anything, though. People just tell me things sometimes and I like to pass them along to my friends here on volnation.

Thank you.

You know what? Scratch that. That's not how I roll. I'm going all in on this one. Volnation, Derek Dooley will coach against South Carolina. I realize it's a risky proposition to go all in like this when a true insider like jayvols posted his rumor, but what the hell. I have a great source on this one.

If I become a non believer on the Gruden coming here can I get some of this info you are sending out DTO? :p I just need my gruden fix for today that is all.

As a side note. Regarding the whole Dooley has already been informed, if so, why would the PTB be holding off so long on making it official? Hoping Dooley does something that would set into motion a fired with cause and thus eliminate the buyout? The sooner Dooley is gone the sooner wounds can begin to heal and UT become prominent again.

I think one of the reasons people are attacking you is because of your snarky responses. You would get a lot farther if you didn't come off as a huge douche when you replied. I agree with most of what you said but the way you went about it was completely uncalled for.

Good Morning,Grudenites!

How's it going?

Kept tossing and turning very early this morning b/c things on the brain, lookslike a missed quite a discussion and added 3 new members to my ignore list..SKimmed over it fast, but I read enough to know that it was BS.

Keep having the faith...

:salute:

Yeah I see it. You are afraid that if UT wins people will argue about keeping the guy that just beat the number 1 team. Pretty simple. You are rooting for Bama.

Tim, it is obvious that you sir, are a negative Nancy. You are trolling this thread, trying to get a rise out of people. It is also apparent that you are a butthurt Doolright that sees the writing on the wall. You know hes done as does everyone in this thread. We are all passionate Vols fans! We love our Vols! Why else would we be so worked up and excited over the possibility of bringing in a coach who could bring our beloved Vols back to a position of relevance and prominence in the SEC. Ultimately, as Vols fans, isn't that what we all want?
GBO!!!
