Sir,don't apologize for asking a logical question b/c I appreciate those..My short answer would be there is always that chance when you hire a coach with zero college HC experience, but it's a chance that I'm willing to take as is most in this thread..And the rest of your post is spot on..I wanted Gruden when we hired Dooley, and I was quite underwhelmed with the hire but was willing to give him a fair shake..That fair shake ended after the Akron game b/c there is no way that game should have been tied at halftime.

Thank you for your logical question, sir.:salute:

.

I think the reason UT was unattractive during the Dooley hiring is due to the fact they were in the dumps at the wrong time (lsu bama uga uf usc arky) were all on the rise and ready to dominate the conference. Plus, coaches would rather go to Ole Miss or UK where expectations are low and would get several years without a ridiculous amount of pressure.

why is everybody so high on gruden?????? I saw him destroy my bucs!! He won the SB with dungy's team after he had 1 winning season the rest were losing seasons, draft busts, and wasted money on free agents

The pay site, just posted an article the said UTs biggest brass still supports Dooley. Any pay for read folks have an outline.

Not a paid member, but this was under the pic.

Derek Dooley was asked after Saturday's loss to Alabama whether Tennessee's administration still supported him. UT's football coach was curt and confident.

So I think Dooley is the one that said it.

Just imagine if he can win a SB with a team with talent then he can win National Championship with the guys he likes.

haha...he brought in guys he liked via free agency and by drafting....my bucs haven't recovered since...when you draft as high my bucs were you cannot miss on guys and he missed all the time...plus being the way he is he wouldn't like the 20 hour NCAA rule...hence why he loves the NFL

First off, blame the Glazers for your Vucs going down.
Second, if you we're truly a Bucs fan, you would remember all the draft pics Tampa gave up to get CJG.
As for the 20 hour rule, every coach wishes they had more time with the players. He will work just as hard away from the kids as he will with them.

Its 20 times harder to keep a NFL team relevant unless you have a franchise QB like Aaron Rogers, Peyton, and Tom Brady. Most NFL coach live and die by one player. The system Gruden worked in Tampa was more of a college style. He tried to get talent every where. Instead of 7 draft picks in the NFL think of him getting 25 draft picks in recruits of College.

With all due respect sir, he did win the ONLY Super Bowl in franchise history..For that matter, how many winning seasons did they have prior to Gruden? This "he did it with Dungy's players" has gotten stale b/c Dungy couldn't win it with his own players..Besides in the NFL, GM calls the shots on everything and that includes the players..In college, the HC has total control in general of course including which players he recruits.:twocents:

Dungy couldn't win it with them so that is why he got fired.

Even if we got Gruden as a coach, and he hired the best staff, and then we lose alot of games everyone will be calling him to be fired.

Well yeah, any coach that has back to back losing records at Tennessee (which has only happened once, oddly enough) and is still losing every meaningful game in his third year is going to be on the hot seat. What's your point?

People would be more patient with someone who has a history of success.. Dooley was always going too have to let what happens on the field speak for him, since there is nothing else to gauge him on.. So far we got exactly what most thought he would be...
