Official Jon Gruden Thread II (merged)

I'm pretty sure they all know that there is a modicum of delusion to this thread. I suppose that's the point.

Notice that everybody is purposefully ambiguous and there is always a little hedging going on. That way, when nothing happens, there is some wiggle room.

On the other hand, if by some completely bizarre scenario, Gruden does get hired, they get some shiny e-badge to show off to their friend.

I like the enthusiasm though. I also would be the first one to run into the street doing the happy dance if it happened, but nothing in this thread has me ready to put on my dancing shoes.

Actually, I have said, and I will, fully admit I was wrong if in fact I am wrong. No hedging. No wiggle room. I don't give a Dooley about e-cred. I'm not a teen, twenty-something, or even a thirty-something. I outgrew all that years ago.

I'm at 80-90% it gets done. Nothing in this deal is absolute. If I were interested in the ecred, I would be saying "book it". I'm just trying to be honest.

Hang tough Sparty....hang tough.

you guys have too much emotion in it boro/knox/still faminboro.

I would love Gruden to be hired today. I don't care who is at UT. Just win.

An offer can't be made by an AD that hasn't spoken to the supposed new coach and a couple of boosters mentioned aren't ponying up the money for a buyout. This thing with Hart/Dooley and all the new assts that were promised time before they signed a few months ago is a sticky situation.

Just the fax man. Just the fax.

If not formal then at least a wink wink, hypothetical conversation.

I would prefer a signed contract. Until that point, I am not convinced. Too many things can go wrong.

And for the record, I actually believe that Gruden would like to be the coach at UT. It is silly, but I cannot help but get excited every time I here that commercial on XM radio College - where he is talking about going around and visiting the best fans. The 2 places he mentions by name are Green Bay and Knoxville.

The timing seems to fit for a deal to happen, but it could be a ruse as well.

For the record, I'm not convinced but am liking our chances from all the chatter I'm hearing.

No emotion. It is what is. You and I can get more in depth afterwards.

Fair enough. I should have phrased it differently, but the cynicism is hard to overcome at this point. As I said to Boro, I will not flame anybody if things don't happen. I always appreciate info if somebody offers it, but if nothing ever happens, no harm no foul.

In the end, football is a game and we are talking about grown men getting paid to play, so there is little use in getting too wrapped up in it.

It is a nice distraction though.

do you think my summary of the situation is off?

In principle no. If I didn't know where my info came from, and how it coincides independently with other peoples I'd be inclined to agree with you.

Keep in mind, I've made no mention of who is footing the bill. I don't know that. That sounds like your arena of expertise.

I stand by what I've asserted.

Boro-vol please tell me that kirby smart is not in consideration.

Why would it be kirby if money is no issue?
I would rather keep Dooley then get Smart

He could tell you this, but it wouldnt be accurate. The most important thing in all of this is that the ones that matter want Gruden

This. And its beyond the point where the divergent opinions matter.
