Official Jon Gruden Thread II (merged)

From what I have been told, yes, barring a win against bama and/or SC. Others say differently, but I am only stating what I have been told.

I get that. Thanks. I would love to get Gruden, which is an understatement, but I also agree to what tvolsfan said earlier in this thread.

...While it would be great, Tennessee does not NEED a big name coach. I firmly believe that Charlie Strong would do fine here. What I've heard about Kirby Smart makes me feel optimistic he would also do well. There are other coaches who could come here and win. While I want Gruden, I hope people realize that there are other people who can be successful here...

.

Larry (LWSVol) said in the FF Gruden was contacted by a booster in 2010 prior to Dooley's hiring. Gruden would talk at 5.5 million, but booster hung up the phone. As mentioned earlier, Gruden may not have been as intrigued then due to the AD as well as the state of the program. However, according to Larry there was a price on the table to engage in talks about the job.

So I am gonna step away from the Dr.Phil end of this thread for a moment, is the new word this morning that he declined? BTW.. Boro, Jay, OV thanks for the info. Must be time for the day shift.

The folks I've talked to say he hasn't declined. BearCat is a solid guy, so I have no doubts he has heard that. I just don't know who his source is nor am I asking. Nothing is a done deal, imo- pro or con. I will say this, if he has declined, I would be very disappointed if we took a single no as the end and didn't continue to push. Slice has said that, but again, my guys say it's not changed.

So basically Yay4Bray, Boro-Vol, JayVols, etc., were all completely full of **** when they said this was a done deal?

Did anyone ever say "done deal"? I think everyone was saying it was a strong possibility but these things need to work themselves out.

If they did, I missed it.

But...he said we would never spend more than 2 million to get a coach. lol

I was underwhelmed with the Dooley hire. But, I still supported him. He has shown that he can't do the job so it's time to replace him. IMO, having a winning HFC, and putting butts in seats is the biggest challenge. It's been said on here before, more ticket sales, merchandise sales, and concession sales make the University tons of money. Surely, if I know this the AD does as well as the boosters. Don't give this fanbase another underwhelming hire.

It was strongly, strongly hinted at by all, and I believe Yay4Bray basically came out and said it was indeed a done deal.

Im hoping that my source is suffering from head trauma and is wrong. Because it would be best for the program if we could manage to land Gruden.

I dont believe that anyone has come out and said this was a done deal one way or the other. Saying as much is just ignorant of what the process entails IMO

No argument with that. I am giving Jay and everyone else who claims some bit of ethereal knowledge the benefit of the doubt and figure it might be best to keep a Gruden info inquiry within the bounds of this thread. No more no less.

Hang tough Medic.

All of them said that things can come up to make this not happen. The only thing that I saw them say was a done deal was the firing of Dooley.

Very reasonable

I've heard similar things to what is NOW coming out. My initial source said, and I quote, "Its Grudens job." I was told there was an agreement in principle, and that details were being ironed out. There was a timeline into November to finalize the deal, make arrangements with ESPN, and take the NCAA test.

Now, I hear from others there is a snag, or even a declination of the deal. This could he real, or just negotiations. It could also be a smokescreen to keep the media at bay.....they seem to be getting traction over the last two days with this story. Ainge has hinted about what's going on for two days.....John Adams posted a story naming Gruden as a possibility.

It's quiet today....nobody is saying much.....I don't really know where it stands at this moment.

Gruden knows the business, doesn't look good to accept a job before its truly open.

If he were to have accepted an offer it would be the top story on all networks. To decline may only be a smoke screen.

I'm still holding out hope.
