No sources here. I would go of my common sense here to think that a Super bowl winning coach would not sign a contract that would prohibit himself from returning to the game if the oppportunity was right. JMO p.s. was not saying you dodn't have any common sense so please don't take it that way

We're good - it didn't make sense to me either. Just something I recalled seeing and cursious if it was valid at all. I don't see him agreeing to it but I don't see the NFL org's consenting to it either though.

This is just speculation on my part, but I believe they mat have reached an agreement based upon rumors we've heard, that doing it this way turned out to be beneficial to both parties. I think maybe the AD has info he doesn't want to divulge, that would be damaging to Dooley in future job searches. It may be that this was worked out to look like Dooley resigned. I think there are several possibilities that could explain the way its being framed.

As for the recruiting question, I don't think it matters. Commits come and go after a coaching change....nobody will think anything of it.

thanks for the information

They'll use those things to negatiate it down, but they most likely won't get away with paying nothing.

They are negotiating it down to a lifetime supply of canoli's.

Maybe but that wouldn't explain his willingness to keep all that hush hush. I said yesterday that if he has been told and he has been hush hush he deserves a huge deal of respect for it.

Although I do not believe Dooley is a great coach, I do believe he deserves some respect for taking this job at a bad time in our history, and if he exits with dignity, I will give him that as well.

Now bring on Gruden

This is not a far-fetched stance...many organizations have "severance pay" packages that are contingent upon the dismissed employee following a specific set of rules upon their departure. I work in a field where someone may be offered a severance package as long as they do not do anything to harm the organization during their departure. If they defy this agreement their severance will not be paid in full.

I agree fully but their silence in such cases is required after termination. It's not required as some elaborate plan to keep their secret termination quiet while they continue to work a job that isn't theirs.

I can buy most of that. The recruiting thing excluded unless the main recruiter of that specific kid feels certain they will be retained ie JayG

I posted this in Gruden V last night. I'm ready for Neyland Stadium to be feared again and return to "Epic" status! Mods delete if polluting the thread.

Everyone is ready for that. Hell just look at the environment for the Florida game this year. You put a good product on the field and the fans will be there. They are as hungry as they have ever been for a winner.

If Gruden takes the job and does what we all think he can do, it will be awesome to see Neyland rocking again with not an empty seat in the house.

Probably part of that chat about "doing it his way". Five million reasons to play along. JMO

My guess is the kid feels like Christmas came early and he got a unbelieveable chance to play at a major university.

I understand what you are saying...I'm not sure I agree that he has already been fired...I just think you are over-thinking it. It is a possibility he has been notified that he will not coach and that one of the conditions is that he follow the rules in order to procure his buyout in full. I agree with you that Dooley deserves respect regardless. I have no desire to rip the guy but it is not hard to fathom that he has been notified privately and been given conditions in order to get his money...one such condition being his silence.
