He said he doesn't think he will put up with all the BS that a coach has to put up with to coach at Tennessee and will stay 1-2 years and be gone. Don't shoot me, I do not agree with him.
But that's exactly why Gruden is option 1,2,3,4,5. If Gruden is hired, the BS disappears almost instantly.
More than anything, Gruden unites the entire fanbase as much as has ever been the case. Even in 1998 there were plenty of fans who didn't think Fulmer was that good of a coach, just a great recruiter. Not only does he unite the fans, but he unites the boosters as well. If the boosters and fans get their man, it will pressure the the university, specifically Hart and Cheek, to stay out of Gruden's way, or be out of a job very quickly.
Former players and most in the AD don't realize how bad things are on the university side. There's been uneasiness on the financial side for a month or more now - something is going on. I'm sure the BOT and boosters heard of the university's problems, but I doubt they believed them until the Governor was elected and started directly hearing details from lots and lots of people on the inside how bad things were. Finally Nashville had someone who was a Knoxville insider who understands East TN politics. I know I've blamed the BOT on here for a lot, but when important university people spend time in meetings trying to figure out how to keep information from them, it's not just their fault. Then the Pat Summit/Debbie Jennings thing happened.
This is why I tend to believe everyone on here that the Gruden rumors are true. The AD and university have already screwed enough up. The boosters and BOT aren't letting them do it anymore. It's not like Cheek wants to deal with this anyway - he doesn't. I'm sure Hart doesn't like to be treated like a child, but he's not stupid. If UT lands Gruden, Hart will get the credit, which will boost his stock tremendously even though he didn't have much to do with it.
Basically, the power brokers, IMO, finally know the truth and know that fixing the entire university starts with this coaching hire.
