Official Jon Gruden Thread VI

Larry has said that the interest from Gruden has cooled. His post yesterday stated big money was there but I saw nothing stating anything changed in his opinion with gruden.

I remember now. There's clearly two camps. One that Gruden is still interested and one that he isn't. At least the Dooley is sticking around camp is getting smaller by the day.

What about Lex saying he thinks we still might get Gruden, what about SBV posts. .. Do you think Bcarter a more connected poster... again an honest question?

I don't think anybody know for sure where JG and his interest is with us. A large majority seems to agree that he was listening for sure. The logic is a few posters are hearing he has cooled and some others haven't heard that then there info is a few days behind the others.

I think we have a chance just like you do but I am fully prepared to look past JG and say there are other great options

I think Gruden or bust is a very dangerous proposition. There are variables at play other than $$$$. Unless we get the AD/Admin on the same page struggles will continue. Gruden is the big prize, but reorganizing the relationship between the AD/Admin makes fans a winner either way.

That being said, I'm still Gruden until he publicly says no.

I totally respect Bcarter and what he says, But it doesn't mean UT can't right the ship for Gruden. We basically have a few weeks to get it done, but I doubt it.

If he says No and this thing is over... I will move on

I am an old man , older than Gman, I don't go over the cliff ha ha ha...... I will also look elsewhere and be open minded

I learned from Yogi Berra years ago "it's never over, till it's over"... this may be bottom of the ninth, but we still are up to bat.... JMO

Believe he could be right about that for sure. People getting too excited about this meeting I'm afraid.

My hope for the meeting is that in the end Tennessee athletics are better because of what it leads to. I have no idea about the procedure and if it can be immediate enough to attract JG. Regardless I hope it leads to change in how the structure is on the hill.

Lex why would he ever say publicly no?

Thanks Lex... sorry if you felt called out.... I was expressing why I was still Gruden, and felt we had a chance.

I was thinking Bruin would give me the logical reasons why he believes we will not.

That is simply were I am at, Gruden until he says No

...because whether Gruden comes here or not the issues will be the same for any coach and we won't reach the top again without change

And as I have stated numerous times that means nothing at all. Hart doesn't want to say anything that could be misinterpreted as a vote of confidence for DD and JG loves his name being out there. It's good for business for JG.

Wasn't it last week or the week before where someone posted that LWS called the Gruden rumor a fairytale? Then he changed his tune to they have spoke?

I have followed this thread since its inception, I have pushed hard against this "rumor" and I have confirmed that it is more than a rumor. I respect LWS, DeerPark and Skeeter and the info they provide but I have yet to see any of them come in to this thread which is now up to VI and post the first thing. To me that speaks volumes, I believe these guys know far more than they can talk about and are in a position where they cannot elaborate on it and deflect it JMO TIFWIW

I think there is a coordinated effort to cool the Gruden talk. I didn't feel called out at all. I've never been a 100% guy even if there was/is an MOU. You never have to worry about offending me.

Why would he say yes or no? Job is not open yet. It would be like the Petrino Auburn thing years ago and Tennessee would be caught with their pants down. Nothing will be said until Dooley is gone.

I don't understand why it's not logical to believe that all the information we have gotten from insiders is possibly all true. Have UT and Gruden talked? Yes, I think probably so. Is there mutual interest? Again, yes I think so. Is it possible that the talks cooled off a bit after Gruden got our situation under a microscope and saw some pitfalls with the AD? Again, highly possible. And is it not also possible that the university is interested in taking certain steps within the AD to make the job more attractive to not only Gruden, but other high level coaches? I certainly think that is also possible.

To me, it boils down to the fact that neither UT nor Gruden have publicly denied any interest. Until that happens, or we have another coach at the podium, I'm going to continue to believe that the powers that be are focusing on making a deal with Gruden happen.

What about his post about the meeting meaning virtually nothing??

I said based on what I am hearing this meeting has literally nothing in it that will make an immediate difference to our coaching situation so waiting like today is D-Day is misconstrued imo.

I would hope that the Knoxville media will make him go public with a statement regarding the job. Can't imagine that they wouldn't. Can you?

IMO he sits back and never has a comment. If he still is in play he would be silent. If he isn't in play he is silent because its good for his name to be out there whether he wants To be an announcer or an nfl coach. Attention is good for him.
