Official Jon Gruden Thread VI

This may involve the ever optimistic leanings of my heart, but could this issue of control-whether current, already dealt with, or "off the record" handled this upcoming week-settle the power issue and thus clear the lane for going forward with JG?

Anything is possible I suppose.

Just a thought about JG. First let me say I do think he is #1 target and at one point was the only target. However, should Gruden not accept the job. I don't expect any comment from either side. UT is already fending off the phony "nobody will take the job" label. All a public statement would do is add to the label. I remain steadfast in the Gruden camp but am now of the belief that options B, C and D are being aggressively explored and should one of those options be hired it will be whitewashed as "he was our top pick and the only guy we even strongly considered". Another reason for Hart to have no real role in the Gruden romance.

Post of the day for me. 100per agree. Especially with the no comment part

After working for the State of Tennessee for 30 years, I find it hard to believe that anything major would come out of the BOT meeting. It's been my experience that major changes come out of closed door meetings, not public meetings. JMO

Exactly what I have said all week.

With all the variables involved in hiring Gruden if we don't have a solid plan B,C,& D then Hart may as well hit the road.

I think one of the reasons that Dooley is still on the sidelines is to protect the search. I don't care what is being said about Hart's support of Dools. Money wants him gone.

I still expect a public answer from Grudes even if it is "I was never contacted by the UT AD." I could be wrong.

Thanks BC, just wasn't sure how much control is required and how much would be willing to be given. It would seem that if autonomy was the sole remaining hurdle that theBOT could work that out (ie no deal =no donor).

Very reasonable^

Post of the day thus far imo.

Any indication of who B,C and D are?

I think the closed door meetings have already taken place.

then people would want him to take a polygraph.....

Believe he could be right about that for sure. People getting too excited about this meeting I'm afraid.

I think a lot of people are getting worked up over the meeting just like they did over rumors of Dooley's firing after the Miss. St. loss. I really think people are in for the same disappointment. Just my opinion, no sources.

Im not sure the amount of control he would want can be decided in a single meeting, but rather a series of meetings taking time. The context clues lead me to believe the time consuming nature of changing an entire relationship between the AD and Chancellors office is one of the major issues right now.

At least its not money, everything else can be overcome no matter how likely or unlikely.

I have never said he is NOT coming, but am well under 50-50.

Unrelated to Gruden, I think there is misdirection on B,C and D. They are in search protect mode to avoid embarrassment related to coaches publicly turning us down.

It would be devastating to have the same botched BS we had in the post Kiffin search. If it is the 11th or 12th choice, there is no reason to publicize that. Problem is the AD here obviously leaks like a screen door in a thunderstorm.

Makes sense, and also to help coaches who are currently coaching avoid having to address rumors of UT job?
