This is what swings me back to Strong. I'm not enamored by his record at Louisville considering the competition they've played. That said, it's not a detraction either. But being a defensive guy, he can really help this team right now. Give him a good OC, and we're in business.
My number one attribute for a college coach is recruiting. I think he'll do well there as well. I think there are a lot of coaches that would be in good position to move UT forward, and I number Strong among them.
Yep. I'm just tired of seeing his name in these lists. He isn't leaving his alma mater-especially when they almost played for the national title last year.
So here is food for thought...What happens if Dooley's new focus on the defense leads to our defense playing lights out? We win the last 3 games and a bowl game by big margins, by offense scoring 35+ and the D keeping each team to 14 or less...What happens then?
My position on Strong is this. It doesn't matter what he has or hasn't done at nowheresville. He is a great defensive coach, which is what we need. We don't need to shore up the offense, it is doing great. Strong is very well respected among HS coaches in UF. He would be able to recruit to UT, players that would not consider UL. DEFENSE WE NEED DEFENSE.
I like Greg Roman but would he be considered a home run hire? Thoughts?
I understand the need for Defense, but we cannot hire a coach because of a present need... What we have today is because of Dooley.
You hire a coach based on his overall work. Defense, offense, recruiting etc. Strong may fill that bill, but not sold yet jmo
With Auburn moving in the same direction, it may not be as cheap as it should be. I really have no idea.
I have heard SF 49ers OC Greg Roman and OKST coach Mike Gundy, mentioned by a few insiders in this thread as possible top 5 options...And ESPN keeps saying that Petrino and Gundy are in the top 5...IDK if anyone really knows...

This is where I would draw the line. If you can't get him for a bargain then let the Barn have him. He does not deserve the opportunity to waltz back into a high paying job. If hired, he would have morality clause and a huge buyout for him to leave.
I think he would untimately get the job done, but I am afraid anyone in the shadow of Gruden will be considered a lame duck hire. I think this may also be a reason that a lot of names will come out in the media. The AD doesn't want Gruden to seem like Plan A and everone else Plan B. Hart wants them all to seem like Plan A's fo the sake of our program...
