Stoops really intrigues me. Can we pull him?

I think it would depend on the length of the deal. The other thing to consider....with Strong we are looking at middle/late January before we can pull the trigger. Timing is everything. Looking at this recruiting class, I don't know if UT has that kind of time.

With Auburn moving in the same direction, it may not be as cheap as it should be. I really have no idea.

I think Petrino to Auburn has legs.... I understand he told them if they wanted him they needed to move because if not he would go to Kentucky.... again just a Rumor I heard

For me it has always been
1. Gruden
2. Stoops
3. Strong

All three would recruit lights out here. Anybody else, with the possible exception of Patterson, we are in wait and see mode in regards to recruiting.

And we can't afford to be in the wait and see mode,IMO.

Larry has said that the interest from Gruden has cooled. His post yesterday stated big money was there but I saw nothing stating anything changed in his opinion with gruden.

"Larry" said a week ago that Gruden had not been contacted and Dooley would return in 2012. I am not sure LWS is very close to the action in this particular case.

I know it's coach speak, but did you hear Strong's interview with Rome about 2 months ago????? He said "I will coach for less at L'ville than go to a bigger program because they gave me a chance when no one else would." He also said "I will never leave L'ville."

L'dub is just now admitting that the boosters are going to open the checkbook. There are several on this board that were proclaiming that after the UK game last year. L'dub is connected, but very conservative with his info.

I've been laying low for a few weeks and checking in from time to time, and if we had to go with someone other than Gruden, Strong would be at the top of my list. Former Vol baseball player and current U of L baseball coach Tim Burke was on Basilio a few days ago and said Strong is a great leader and the football team loves him and play their tails off for him and he maximizes all effort and talent from his players. He has sucessful SEC DC experience and strong ties to florida. Him as HC and over defense and offer Cutcliffe to come be an OC. Keep Graham and Pittman. No one can deny that our best years was when Cut was running the Offense. JMO

Wouldn't this be the case with Stoops as well? Oklahoma is having a good year...There bowl game would be in January most likely...

You really cant judge the record of a coach at a school like Louisville. Strong is a very good Coach and recruiter and Louisville was in aweful shape when he arrived. Take Saban at Mich St for example. He did absolutely nothing at Mich St, yet LSU saw something and hired him then after losing to UAB on yr he wins a NC. Strong imo would be a great hire. He's defensive minded and I think he could recruit and win here.

That's why I said his record there doesn't enamor me or detract from my opinion. At the same time, I'd rather have a larger body of work as a head coach to judge, but I don't think he's a bad option either. I'd probably put somewhere in the middle, which might be exactly where UT picks up a coach considering the lists we've seen.

Never is a long time. Money talks. If they go BCS...timing is terrible for us.

Lexvol, do you think that the AD is feeling pressure to find someone who is currently not coaching in order to make a quick hire and salvage the recruiting season?

I think there is a big difference between a New Year's Day bowl and the BCS. There is a chance that U of L will be playing for a possible top 5 ranking.
