Official Jon Gruden Thread VII

So question to everyone that has info, I have heard it stated Gruden's last day at MNF is Nov. 26th and I have also heard Dec. 17th (to finish out the year), Which is it?

My main concern is that I do not know if we would fire a coach and wait over 3 weeks (Dec. 17th) to announce a new one and then not have an official presser until 9 days (Dec. 26th) after that, it doesn't make sense. Can someone clarify this for me?

Also, have the players been told he is fired or not? The media says yes and some posters say yes. Others say no and the players for sure do not know, which is it?

What I've heard is that all of the timing of this has been at the request of Gruden. He's in the drivers seat.

The timeline going forward, based upon the newest info, may move a little more quickly.

For the love of God, people have honestly/seriously suggested guys like Bob Davie or Terry Bowden.

Talk about lowered expectations...

Am I 100%? Hell no.

Do I think people are crazy for being hopeful? Of course not.

But the level some people are willing to drop is a bit sad.

I'm surprised someone hasn't suggested Gary Dinardo. After all, he did coach in the XFL.

The day of the SEC championship would be a great day to announce it. Take all the spotlight away from the teams playing.

I still believe they had some negotiating to do. Time will tell. I wouldn't be shocked to see things speed up either.

I have been reading this thread religously from the very beginning. I haven't posted much because I am simply a fan with no real info.

I just wanted to say that whether we get him or not(and I think we do!) that this has been so much fun. I've really enjoyed all of you guys and gals. My days at work have not been so boring! I can't even read the regular football forum anymore. These are the folks I really think I could share a beer with. Thanks for the good times, everyone! Lets get Gruden!

Same here. I have loved following this thread from the beginning. I have only posted a couple times. Now the football forum seems boring and less friendly. The people on this thread make my day better. I honestly doubt we get Gruden, but I hope we do with all my heart. I'm just a pessimistic type, but I enjoy everyone's optimism on here a ton. I guess I'm trying to say thanks to you guys.

G,B!!!

I've heard, and expressed, that since the beginning. Makes huge sense from a PR standpoint.

But again, Gruden is driving the bus.

This is such an exciting time to be a Tennesee Vol. Most are excited about Gruden and a few aren't, but we all have to agree to be excited that the AD and boosters seem to want to get back to winning. And that is exciting, when everyone is on board for a goal at hand, it is a whole lot less likely to be a failed mission.

That and the sense of tradition in college football can be a reason to wake up in the morning. Jon Gruden has the chance to become a beloved head coach to the Tennessee Volunteers. I believe this fan base would welcome him with open arms. That is rare and a great opportunity.
It's up to him.. It's his if he wants it..

Spoke to a friend of mine who works in the athletic office at Florida. She said they got wind last week that it's all but a done deal......and a huge driver behind it is Gruden's wife. Said she loves UT and the area (Capt. Obvious) but she has a loud voice in the room when it comes to the decision, but the Eagles and at least one other NFL team are in play who are going to make a serious push. The speculation on the other team was centered around the Cowboys, Chargers, and believe it or not, the NY Jets

we are listening............

I think he's just trying to get a rise out of us. I'm skeptical every time someone says they have "info" and I'm assuming he's playing off the hopeful gullible people which is not very nice. :rtfm:

Edit: Of course he would actually reply literally right before my post. I'm skeptical, but any good news is welcome but I will put that into the stack of "my friend in the AD" has info stack.

Is this because there is a very real possibility they will lose to Vandy? Will that finally force Hart's hand to speak?

here it is from the last page.

My best guess...they have kept Dooley to finish contract negotiations with Gruden. I really believe it.

You could be right but I also think all parties involved, even Gruden, want to avoid at all costs the backlash and bad feelings within the coaching community and among some boosters and former players that came with how the Fulmer firing was handled. Nobody wants to be associated with any perceived shabby treatment of Dooley and I respect them if that is the case.

Out of all the rumors and posts over the last months concerning Gruden, I seem to have lost my cool on one occasion. And that involved you.

For this, I apologize.

In the end, I had a few words with DTO. And if you see this DTO, I apologize to you also.

Have heard that from the beginning. I think the two most recent games remove any culpability of the new UT coach in regards to Dooley's fate.
