Ive been following the Gruden threads from the begining but rarely posting. After gathering info from various places, trusting in people like Boro, Jay, etc. who have been consitent from the begining, heres my educated opinion. Jon Gruden will be the next head coach at UT. I believe Gruden wanted this job as much as we all wanted him. I believe a mou has been signed and everyone is waiting to move forward. Gruden and UT have there timeline and for various reasons coming out now makes no sense. So what we have now is a bunch of BS stories that make no sense putting doubt out there as to who our next coach will be.
One day I see on here and from various national sources that its done and the next day Al Goldens our guy. I live near Philly, have for 45 years, what Golden did at Temple is unbelievable, the guys solid, would love to have him IF Jon Gruden werent in play. Frankly its insulting to insinuate Dave Hart has Gruden on the table, an obvious comitment from big $ boosters to cover any expense, and hes going to hire Golden or Gundy or whoever. As excited as we all are that it looks like Gruden, imagine what'll happen knowing it was this close and doesnt happen. Sorry but theres no other coach that we can get that can fix the mess that already exists and then have to deal with the absolute disaster that blowing this deal would mean. I love the Vols and always will, the past 5 years have been tough but to move forward knowing we had Gruden and didnt get it done just makes it that much harder. Hart, Cheek and everyone involved knows they have no choice here. Its Gruden or bust and I mean monumental bust. The deals done and the rest is BS to allow them time and possibly allow some sort of boom factor when its finally announced. Cant say 100% til hes at the press conference but I just dont see allowing this to not happen.
