I think January 3rd

If Hart is still interviewing candidates on Dec 4th (as a certain orange colored dog implied :)) and the dead period runs from Dec 16th till Jan 3rd, then IMO you can forget about a recruiting class..

Stoops would kill it here.

No to stoops!!! No to underachieving!! No to losing to inferior teams!!!

Evidence he loses to lesser teams!!

2012
ND 30-13
K state 24-19

2011
Texas tech 41-38
Baylor 45-38
Ok state 44-10

2010
Missouri 36-27
Texas A&m 33-19

2009
BYU 14-13
21-10 miamia
41-13 Texas Tech

As you can see stoops loses against inferior teams. That doesn't work in the SEC. Besides as you look at those scores his defense sux!!! Stoops isn't the way to go. In fact I want any candidate but that guy on the downslide of his career!!!

This is my first post in here, been lurking for awhile. That said could we please, please not SETTLE for a coach: ie. Strong, Biles, Smart or anyone like this.

We wouldn't have approached Gruden in the first place if we were going to let money or control be a deal breaker. I don't doubt that we've been talking to him, and based on all of the information available - yes, including the insiders on this and other boards - I'm convinced Gruden is interested. My guess is we've put a deal on the table that he could take but now that it's known that he's truly in the game, he's got others calling him too, and if Jerry Jones gives him a call, he's at least going to listen. I think that's the hold-up - if he decides to coach college, he's ours. It will be over next week one way or the other.

Anybody? Bueller? Bueller? Bueller?

I think that there are multiple angles.

One theory is that they don't want it to seem that they were negotiating with Gruden while Dooley was HC.

Another theory is that Gruden's camp has been insistent on keeping it silent until they are ready to announce it.

Yet another theory is that because of the magnitude of the deal, they want to limit having to answer questions about it, so they purposely mislead people to deflect.

Of course, all of these could be true, or none of them could be.

Hart could very well make a decision before then. That's what Hubbs posted on VQ. I think it makes since.

If Hart is standing in the way, I see him getting canned.

This all day..

Just heard dude on the radio that played waaaay back in the day for UT and he's convinced that Thompson, Ansley, Sunseri and Hart r all sent from bama to destroy UT football and keep them down..

He was serious and sober as far as I could tell..

I agree, I see stoops as the Richt of the Big-12, he tries to out-talent everyone, but they can easily out coach him.

If the biggest boosters all want Gruden, and Cheek is the one that screws up the deal because of the control issues, does Cheek get canned?

What does total control mean? I don't think we can give him total control

But could we? Strong proven?

First: Depends on how much Gruden wants to be here.

Second: According to babyvol's post, Strong is the last one on that tier and doesn't necessarily mean all the others would say no. It would speak to your first question if ALL of those candidates were very interested. Remember too that while Strong isn't a homerun, he is more proven than CDD and would address our most glaring problems immediately.

Noone knows what kind of coach Smart ends up being. Muschamp was a risk right? He was never a head coach. Oh to be 11-1 right now. Obviously Smart would have very strong recruiting ties in the SE. People want to see the rockstar type hire, that rockstar could have us 5-7 next year just as easy.
