If he effs this hire up. He will be the most hated person in Tennessee Volunteer history IMO. We can not afford another bad hire. :unsure:

How will you decide he "effs" up the hire? Anyone but Gruden being the coach?

thanks for the effort, but it only took UT a few days to find, interview, and hire Dooley so that one seems strange. Gruden's camp has nothing to gain by waiting so...... and they will have to answer possible questions no matter when it happens, JMO.

Noone knows what kind of coach Smart ends up being. Muschamp was a risk right? He was never a head coach. Oh to be 11-1 right now. Obviously Smart would have very strong recruiting ties in the SE. People want to see the rockstar type hire, that rockstar could have us 5-7 next year just as easy.

We want the LONGTERM fix. Saban went 6-6 in first year at Bama. We realize it takes a year or two.

I think the reason most of us are in here is the hope that the Vols are in for an exciting future. I know that's what I want in a coach.

That's exactly the point. If he was a puppet of the AD he wouldn't have reported DD was out after the Missouri game when they didn't want it public.

I don't know what to tell you. He is a puppet. Easiest job in Knoxville. Gets exclusive info, especially recruiting, access to players through VRN, and puts out info to the media that the AD wants out there. He doesn't have to work.

I am not arguing for any of these, but rather the various theories about why there would be smokescreens.

Your point about how the Dooley hire went down is a strawman. Kiffin wasn't fired. He left on his own, so there was no image to protect as far ethics go.

On the other hand, the Dooley hire is a prime example of why you don't want anybody to know what your doing. That was a pathetic situation with Hamilton getting publicly humiliated at every turn.

Me, too. We as UT fans expect disappointment. It would be great if we could see a commitment to excellence in our administration to rival Bama's.

The constant needling by certain people is getting very old. They don't seem to understand that UT is at a critical point, and another underwhelming hire could doom this program to mediocrity for a very long time.

And there is nothing to support that Gruden would be a long term fix. Especially on the college level. My comment was more less that noone honestly knows for a fact that Jon Gruden could win more games in 5 years at Tennessee than Kirby Smart could.
