You can thank Fulmer for not developing any kind of coaching tree. Cut, Sanders, and Chavis might constitute a coaching shrubbery.

I don't know who comes here and works miracles. I have been through these UT coaching searches since Doug Dickey left for his "dream job." The Vols have not landed a hot coach since the majors higher. Fulmer was in house. Kiffin had pro-experience but had just been fired and well Dooley had an SEC pedigree, some recruiting prowess and a big picture. We all know that Majors had ups and downs and it took Coach Fulmer to get us to the promised land. There are no results guaranteed with Gruden, but he is a major figure in the football landscape and would obviously bring some excitement. Problem is we don't have a former Vol to come home and lead. Jay Graham is as close as it gets and he may not be ready to take the helm. Obviously Gruden has some connections. It may be old school and unrealistic but I miss the days where the Tennessee coaching tree was able to provide and the fan base didn't demand a mercenary hire.

Oh snap. Now you've done it. Prepare for a thrashing.

I tend to look at things in a realistic light. I understand alot of them on here can not do that. "Soon", and "Done Deal" are the only things they can focus on. Gruden has not won a single game as a HC in college. Very similar to Smart.

You can start by telling me why they allowed him to say dd was fired before they wanted it known???

They wanted him to continue to coach until a bowl wasn't possible if you believe their Stance.
Did he say that? Believe I heard him say it will be difficult for him to survive if he loses to Vandy.

And there is nothing to support that Gruden would be a long term fix. Especially on the college level. My comment was more less that noone honestly knows for a fact that Jon Gruden could win more games in 5 years at Tennessee than Kirby Smart could.

He has been a head coach. I dont care its at a different level. You cant tell me that almost everybody would take a superbowl winning head coach over a college coordinator to coach their college team.

How will you decide he "effs" up the hire? Anyone but Gruden being the coach?

No that is not what I meant. If he hires someone else, WHOEVER it is better win, and win quick. If they don't, everybody will blame him for screwing up the Grudski hire. If Grudski comes and loses, it will all be on him and not Hart. :hi:

That is why Gruden is held in such esteem. He thinks of UT as his "college" team. He is the closest thing we have to an heir at this point.

The assistant staff that will be brought in with 4 million+ will be an NFL and NCAA hardened company, that is something Kirby Smart could NOT bring in, much less demand.

Nothing comes out of Hubbs mouth or on his website, that he hasn't gotten approval to say or write. Take it or leave it.

Honestly speaking, we don't know for sure that Gruden would be the savior either. The only people that would blame him are the ones yelling for Gruden and are not willing to accept anyone less, and they are most likely the minority.

Alot of things would come into play with that decision. 5 million plus VS 2 million plus for 1. Hart has fought very hard to gain control over the AD. I find it hard to believe he is just going to all a sudden hand that over to a guy because it's part of his contrat demands. Smart has recruited at the highest level in the SEC. All we can do is hope Gruden could. I get alot of people want the rockstar, that does not mean he is the best choice.

For the record, I would make Patterson and Petersen tell me NO before I even made Gruden an offer.
