Alot of things would come into play with that decision. 5 million plus VS 2 million plus for 1. Hart has fought very hard to gain control over the AD. I find it hard to believe he is just going to all a sudden hand that over to a guy because it's part of his contrat demands. Smart has recruited at the highest level in the SEC. All we can do is hope Gruden could. I get alot of people want the rockstar, that does not mean he is the best choice.
For the record, I would make Patterson and Petersen tell me NO before I even made Gruden an offer.
I think Gruden is a great coach and would be a very good to great recruiter. The question I want answered is this. Why would he want to? He is a coach who wants full control. He will hate the 20 hr practice rule. He doesn't have to put up with any if that in the NFL.
Chavis and Coach Cuts records speak for themselves.
Saban gave us Sal and Dooley..
Says who? If smart were given the 4 million dollars, who knows what kind of staff he could assemble. I think the talk was about Zook or Morris at 1.5 million bucks. Would Chavis return for 1.25 million to work with Smart? Who knows.
I am far from an insider. Never claimed to be. I have a relative who is a big donor at UT but he won't say a word. He has a stadium named after him at UT. I ask him for hints and he just laughs and shakes his head. That is by I believe all the insider people are FOS. Not trying to be arrogant, but I can see how it can come across that way on a message board.
Alright. Season over. Now the test begins.
I have to think that if Gruden really is a done deal that he will be announced tomorrow or Monday simply to get him out on the recruiting trail ASAP. I believe 100% that he can quit MNF any time he wishes. Contracts mean nothing, recruiting means everything.
If he is not announced by Monday then I have to fall into the camp that no deal has ever been "done" with Gruden officially, unofficially or otherwise and that there is an honest-to-God coaching search happening and UT has no clue who they will be hiring.
Just my opinion, but that's where I'm gonna stand. Hoping for a Gruden announcement VERY soon.
Yeah but you didnt say anything about money in previous post. You talked about winning. Logically people would put a greater % on gruden wining than they would smart. I dont get the whole peterson thing. He has won yes but at boise st. They were good before he became head coach. Yeah they knocked off a couple good teams but thats different than playing in the sec. What makes you think he can recruit in the sec? Im not saying he is a bad coach just think he is far from a sure thing.

Wow! I just read this entire thread. I have been sick this entire holiday weekend and this has kept me going. I appreciate all the opinions and debates on here. I don't know who has the "solid" info and who doesn't. I don't know who is going to be our next coach...I just know that I want us to get the best hire for UT. I know that UT football is over for 2012 and if this is what we have to look forward to til the next hire, it is going to be one hell of a ride and I'm excited to be on it. Although, for some of you it may be in the best interest of your health to step away for a while.
Fulmer: 1 HC at a crappy school and 1 career coordinator.
Saban: Jimbo Fisher, Will Muschamp, Mark Dantonio, Jim McElwain, Mike Haywood.
Don't get me wrong, I don't want another Saban coach, but to argue that Fulmer surrounded himself with or developed better coaching talent is laughable.
"No one will hold me to it. That's the line of the day. The reality is that Hart has interviewed anyone yet. He hasn't offered the job to anyone yet.
I think it's going to be a slow week in terms of news because a good number of guys he wants to talk to will play next week and I don't think he will do anything interview wise till the regular season is over.
I have said, that I think Stoops, Fisher, and Golden are guys he wants to talk to. That's not the only three, but that's three that I believe Hart will try to visit with."
