I do like the idea of Petersen accompanied by a SEC staff to assist with recruiting (barring Gruden, of course). The huge splash might not be there but I would trust him at the helm, that's for sure.

It was said several days ago that a lot of negative Gruden info was going to come out after all the ppsitive info was leaked, especially the rumors about manning being involved. It was all escalating too quickly, the choice was to early announce, or to have a media lockdown. Which is essentially what has happened. All the media have flip flopped so much, including hubbs. I believe they are smoke screening, hard...

Fair enough but he only get ls up for those 4 and 5 star teams 1 time a year. TCU did the same thing but havent been near as good moving to a bigger conference. They could play with those guys once or twice but not every week. I wouldnt be disappointed with peterson though. Ive just heard he is more likely to stay out west.

Hubbs also just said this a few minutes ago...

I never said that he was talking to coaches about specifically going to Tennessee. He has spoken to some coaches about joining him on a staff wherever he ends up coaching and that the college game was discussed.

I have never reported that he and Peyton have been talking about the Tennessee job.

I think Gruden has had interest in Tennessee. As we reported in the war room on Friday, Hart had a meeting with some of the powers brokers on Tuesday and on Wednesday there was less to no optimism about Gruden and Tennessee from the people that we have spoken with.

I don't know what was said in that meeting but that's the timeline of what happened.

Now, I don't believe Tennessee has been as far down the road in doing a deal with Gruden as others on the board have suggested.

Sounds like he's talking in circles now. That post of his doesn't jive with what he's said in previous war room's at all.

That last part scares me. I don't think any of those guys are seriously interest in TN. I'm hoping that is a smoke screen. I also don't think we land Gruden.

I find it hard to believe he is just going to all a sudden hand that over to a guy because it's part of his contrat demands. Smart has recruited at the highest level in the SEC. All we can do is hope Gruden could. I get alot of people want the rockstar, that does not mean he is the best choice.

For the record, I would make Patterson and Petersen tell me NO before I even made Gruden an offer.

Its easy to recruit at the highest level when your head coach is Nick Saban. My guess is he's the one who does all the "recruiting". Kirby Smart is just the one that shows up at the door.

I agree, if we don't get Gruden then I'm not sure that any coach can come in at this point and turn around recruiting. If we can't start getting some 4* and a few 5* star recruits I'm not sure we'll ever get back to competing consistantly with the Ala, Ga, LSU, Fla, A&M and even SC....sheesh....we have to get Gruden we just have to

Agreed, if he's done nothing he can pack his bags with Dooley. I refuse to believe that is the case.

I really dont think hubbs knows at this point. I know some people in the ad have no clue whats going on(people that would usually be on a search committee).

If this is true, DD, LT, and Sal should have killed it here.

In truth they all drop when they leave the nest. While in theory it sounds good. History proves its not, and at best Smart is a huge leap.

So we pretend we haven't made a hire, then later announce we made a hire days prior? That accomplishes nothing but delays potential recruiting work.
