Official Jon Gruden Thread XII

There is no way anyone close to the sport of Football (college or pro), doesn't understand the level of institutional control required to stay out of trouble these days. There is also no way after the Sandusky incident that anyone would even dream that the Trustees, Chancellor, Athletic Director, etc. could delegate that authority to an individual coach in any sport. Heck, there's no way anyone wouldn't know that after the Tressel and Pearl incidents. I can certainly believe that someone who hasn't worked in the college game in 20+ years, would be extremely worried about the NCAA compliance rules. But it is not even in the realm of my immagination that, that worry would extend into any negotiations other than ensuring I had the budget to have the right compliance coverage to ensure I stayed out of trouble, jail, etc. This whole story line has no plausible legs. If you believe institutional control is a negotiating point as it has been described, I have some swamp land in Georgia, I'll sell you.

I'm missing the correlation.

Ok, I get on VQ and it says "babyvol says on TOS that it's still Gruden" .... I look in the CliffsNotes and it says "babyvol says on TOS that it's still Gruden"

Each site is referencing the other, but I have yet to see the actual babyvol post ... Could someone enlighten me? ha

Interesting since he has been seen in multiple public airports.

I mean for their official ESPN duties. I promise you Corso, and Herbstreet won't be flying commercial. ESPN get's them to their GIG on a private jet. Even the VOLS can provide this service for him. Yes, he probably resorts to commercial flights for some functions, but when you are talking about the amount of money being talked about here, McGhee Tyson is NOT the weak link in the chain. Do you think Saban worries about flying in and out of Tuscaloosa?

I just don't buy this "complete control is causing conflict" angle. Not for a second.

It's Jon Gruden, one of the few coaches to reach the pinnacle at the next level, a Super Bowl Champion. This isn't some guy on his way up looking to make a name for himself to hopefully plateau into big leagues. This guy's already done that. He's earned his brand, if you will.

By even sniffing him as a coach, anyone with common sense knows what it would take to land a fish that big. It won't be money that brings him here. He could have already jettisoned himself onto any of the desperate NFL teams over the last 4 years. If he comes here, it will be because he wants to install his legacy on the field. He can't do that with a ridiculous checks and balances system that a lot of no-name coaches are forced to work under. He knows, and we know, what he will be capable of the college level, and to make that truly work and be "all in", we have to play by the rules he sets.

This shouldn't be some shock to the AD, and I'm sure it isn't. Reports otherwise seem to be people either naive of how something like this would actually go down or complete smoke to work an angle to maximize publicity.

As a member of the NCAA (and further, a member on probation), we operate under the rules they set. Those rules include checks and balances.

The NCAA has a term: "Lack of Institutional Control". It's bigger than just four words.

:hi:

I know you can't get specific - do you mean loyalty to his current role?

No worries. There's nothin to hide.

I'm not sure exactly how to define what I was told...it was vague. But without assuming and only guessing...yes, loyalty to not only his role, but the people he works with, the network, all the above.

This journalist on Tony saying EVERY recruit he talked to smiled when he said Gruden's name and said I would listen to him. Not exactly shocking revelation there.

TOS just means an "other" Vol site. In this case it means the scout forum, which is where baby posts. Most of the time on here it's used to refer to Volquest, but not in this case.

I believe babyvol posts on Scout

VolRumormill on twitter (no idea if legit): "Was just told that KPD and UTPD officials are meeting with AD members about security for coming press conference/coach."

I'm checking right now to see if there is any truth to this. Hopefully i will hear something back soon...

If she wanted to live in Knoxville, why didn't she move here anytime in the last 4 years? She has no reason to stay in Tampa if Knoxville where she really wants to be.

Uproot her kids from Tampa with the possibility would be moving again for a job? Why uproot your kids twice if you don't have to.
