Official Jon Gruden Thread XIV

I have this sick feeling that Hart wanted Smart, but he's going to offer Jimbo. The other feeling is that Hart never wanted Gruden, period.

I'm hoping Strong. Skeeter is high on him and think we'd gain some great recruits, from twitters, seems some of the old Vols think he'd be great with recruiting.

I have a feeling that most people are going to wrong about Hart. He didn't get his position being stupid. These guys are part business men part PR people. I don't believe for a minute that he is as clueless as it seems to all of us.

I see what your saying, but we got to let him do what he gets paid to do and after we have done that I believe he will make the right decision. One thing people are wrong about is Hart isn't a dumbass. Is he stubborn, Yes. Does he have a ego, yes. Will he make the right decision??? We will have to wait and see, but I believe so. If then and only then will he be forced to go with what the $$$ says.

Up to this point, Hart has mishandled this whole seach. Not only has be been secretive to a point that it threatens to lose fans, It's extremely disrespectful to those that pay their way for the University. He's beligerant, and keeping the fanbase comnpletely in the dark, is just not a good way of doing a coach search. He can't possible "tell all", but he can do much better than what he's shown so far...........Plus he's a bammner.:)

I post this in the Fulmer forum earlier today.

Interesting topic. I will put this out there and you can flame away. I am not going to take sides only telling you what I know. Some of high power boosters in the Cleveland/Chatt area want him back. They believe the time away has taught him and reignited the fire in him. He has not moved on to other jobs due to the thought after the UK game last year we may be in this position. Now 2 facts I am not going to wavier on.

1. He and Hart had dinner not long ago
2. His hat is in the ring

I can not say this as fact but my understanding is Chief would return with him.

I will discuss pros and cons but I am not going to have a childish name calling contest because people use him as a punching bag.

Please Lord make it stop!!!

You thought there were a lot of empty seats in Neyland this year.... wait and see how many there are if he was rehired!

Simply unfathomable.

:drive2:

I don't understand this whole they will be interviewing coaches while in NYC thing during CPF induction.

Are we speed dating for the next head football coach?

Doesn't make much sense to me, if you have your guy, fly him into Knoxville and interview him.

It reeks of desperation, and like we don't have a clue who we want? IMO

All I hear is an announcement for Blackburn as AD on Tuesday.

Smokescreen interviews. That's what I am going to choose to believe anyway.

I think the way we fired Fulmer in the middle of a season was terrible. Someone who had won a national championship and had us near the top for so long deserved more respect. We should have given him another season or two to prove whether or not he could still do the job. That said, I think we need to move forward to the next generation of coaching. I can't think of many names I would want less right now.

I hear you. I posted sometime back my greatest worry is what happens to the fans if this is not handled correctly. It is easy to say we have to come together to support the new coach but the reality is it will be hard if it is not one of a few people. For instance, I just don't care for Fisher, strong, Golden, or Jones.

If you held a gun to my head I would choose Strong in that list. But I'm still dumb enough to hold out hope for Grude.

Duh--Skeet may work for Hart....Strong has been Harts pick from the beginning

Moore did this same stuff at Bama, Saban got hired anyways, and he's still there... anyone know the full Bama story?

Im not sure but didn't Saban tell bama to get real, grow up,and told them to go get a professional football team before before he was hired?

All I'm going to say is the BOT has to approves Harts hire..., it can be vetoed..,,,connect the dots

How many people are on board? Do they have any specific directions they normall lean in these situations? I mean.. They were sold on Dooley when he got hired.

Then Hart should kick off any discussion with him by asking if he'll agree to take $1 year for three years with no buyout. UT has paid him $6m over the last four years to do nothing, and if he truly loves the place and wants to come back and save things for the sake of the school and its fans (and not to further his own ego), he shouldn't have a problem with that. And that would go a long way toward smoothing over the still rather large rift in the fan base over him, which would be a major obstacle to rehiring him. If things seem to be on track after say two seasons, then give him a new contract and pay him market value, and maybe throw in a nice bonus as well.
