Official Jon Gruden Thread XIV

You assume Gruden was going to run the whole show by himself? He had already been working on assembling his staff...a rockband staff comparable to an NFL team. He just wanted them paid as such.

I think this may be missed by alot of people. The rumored staff accompanying gruden would be epic. I say again...epic. The likes of which have never before been assembled in the collegiate ranks. In the long run his staff would have been as big hire as the man himself. Totally agree with you!

So I assume Gruden announcing games has been impressive to you.

It has to me. But more impressive was him taking a Raiders franchise that hadn't sniffed greatness since Howie Long was strapping on shoulder pads and turning it into one of the most feared, and most complete teams in the NFL. Ever heard of the tuck rule? That came from one of the greatest games I ever saw (Raiders/Pats in the '01/'02 playoffs), and the Raiders were only there because of Gruden. If not for Gruden you wouldn't have ever heard of Rich Gannon, I guarantee you that.
Just as impressive was him taking a talented, but directionless team that seemed mired in 9-7 seasons under Tony Dungy to the Super Bowl on the backs of one of the finest defenses ever to grace the NFL. Keep in mind, the TB defense wasn't that the year before. He coached that team to a decisive SB victory over the team that he had built and made great. Don't believe me Just see how long Bill Callahan lasted as an HC. Callahan was in no way responsible for the Raiders making the Super Bowl that Gruden won... Gruden was.

I find the above achievements impressive.

Bama won that game because of the decisions Saban made, and FSU almost lost because of the decisions that Fisher made. See Florida and NC State games for reference on Fisher's game management, or lack thereof.

Bama won cause of their RB's and the bad coaching from Richt.

I don't think Fisher is the best we could do, but don't think it would be the end of the world either.

Well, if you want further evidence of a conspiracy for "smokescreen-for-Gruden" then look no further than the recent Strong interview. Wes and other Knox media reporting it happened, then you have Fox sports analyst and other outlets saying it didn't happen. One thing is for sure, this coaching search has been incredibly strange; and I don't blame people thinking there is a huge smokescreen going on to land Gruden. I also believe nothing should be ruled out until you see someone behind the podium.

Exactly, Gundy was supposedly lined up for an interview, OSU said that's not true... Strong was supposedly interviewed, bigger, more reliable sources say that's BS. Notice how, including the Gruden saga, the KNS are the ones totally off. The AD are leaking them bogus info, and why... this is just crazy, and most crazy coaching search ever. No media outlet could agree on their story on the Gruden ordeal, and now we have all this...

tifwiw....there are rumblings going on in knoxville at this hour...the stars are about to aline and ducks are getting in a straight row....more tomorrow and all vol fans are gonna be pleased. remember this post.

Are you related to VolReporter?

If not Gruden, who do you like?

To be honest, I don't really care for any of the names that are being thrown around. I'm not even saying I'm right. One of them could come in and totally prove me wrong; however, everyone of these guys seem to have either under achieved, or just coach junior high ball.

What keeps bothering me about all this, is that Gruden has not said much of anything and neither has UT officially. This usually always happens and happens quickly if there is no deal. You notice all of the other coaches usually shoot it down personally when it's not happening, and Gruden has shot it down himself in past years. I don't think it's over yet. Not saying it is probable, but possible.

This search will blow wide open again when Hargis releases another article. Just watch.

It's 2 am, I would guess because a lot of people are getting out of the bars.

Next years schedule on top of the crappy recruitting class it looks like we will have, really doesn't look good for any coach comming in, the more I think about it anyway.

Totally agree with this sentiment and with your views on Jimbo.

I like other coaches (some even more than Gruden - - - SHOCKING!) but they are not realistic candidates here/aren't on our list so I won't even bother to list them.

I will, however, continue to make fun of Jimbob.

What I've heard, is that the boosters went after Gruden without Hart. Hart got butthurt, and started to complain about how much control Gruden wanted and kinda wimpered until boosters started to listen to his list of rock star suck jobs. That is all hear say though.

Well, of course about hear say... I just don't see Hart getting his way over the boosters, considering the names that are in there. I don't think it will be Gruden now, but if it isn't and that's why... I think Hart loses his job in the near future.

Did any of you ever listen to the radio interview of Stephen Hargis...the reporter from Chattanooga that broke the Gruden Mulling Deal story? Everything you need to know is there.

I don't disagree. And I don't love Fisher. But I'd take him over some of the other options out there. I would love Gundy, but that won't happen.

Same... there literally are no good coaches on the table in this search. I feel like Gruden is great, but a pipedream, Stoops? Maybe, but a pipedream. I don't know.
