If so, then shut down the football program. If we have halted the donations to academics to free up a large some of money to hire Mike McIntyre or anyone in the same mold then lets just call a spade a spade and be resigned to the fact that the UTAD has given up on being relevant.

They'll try to justify one of the mediocre names on our list as returning us to relevancy.

Wow... reading the LaMonte story, its pretty wild. Some believe he was responsible for the "superfan" organizing the protest for the Browns to change management, then bam, Holmgren was hired and all of LaMonte's other clients as coaches, despite some of them performing horribly at previous jobs.

I honestly think our best bet is Fisher, out of the realistic candidates. He is a great recruiter, but suspect coaching, but maybe with a great staff he can do okay. I just see him as a Richt 2.0... he can get 9-10, even 11 wins a year, but he will lose the big games, and 1 or 2 games he has no business losing.

My picks are either Fisher or Strong, wouldn't be upset at either of the two.

OldVol, an OG, said in October that this would be the biggest deal, not in terms of just compensation but everything involved, that the NCAA has ever seen.

He also said to look for it to be done, then seem to fall through at the last minute. I believe that was Gruden III as well.

I'm not a fan of him either. He was horrible for our basketball program. Football enjoyed tremendous success, but it's not like he hired a head coach; just the Fulmer coup.

Honest to God you wouldnt be upset with Strong after being tempted with gruden, stoops, and even fisher. I would. Why is he suddenly so great? Please explain what is the draw to hire strong?

When UT was doing so well in the 90's, did anyone overly worry about the b-ball team? I mean I was a little disheartened, but I was still pretty ok with the world with UT in the NC title hunt most years.

Honestly, all of these coaches are a considerable leap from Dooley but we shouldn't just accept that.

The Holy Grail was in our grasps it seemed and we let it go. And even if the rumors were just that, rumors, the UTAD played as large a role in them as did any media outlet or message board.

"We are not actively pursuing Jon Gruden as our next head coach".
How hard is that? Even if you're actively pursuing him with everything you've got, you have to temper expectations on such a big hire such as Gruden, if you don't, you're putting your job in jeopardy.

Here's the thing...I wouldn't be "excited" about Strong either, but if you'd be "upset" about him, then you're basically saying you're going to be upset with anyone.

The only thing I'm upset about is blowing the Gruden deal, and that's if it's even true that we could/should have landed him. If I tell someone who's not on VN that we should have had Gruden, they'll think I'm crazy.
