Official Jon Gruden Thread XIV

I'm confused on why people keep coming into this thread and saying it's over.... I mean, at least make an argument for why it's over.

I want to hope and it could be head games to throw us off, but every halfway legit source except maybe Boro and Baby Vol is saying it's pretty much over.

Money will never be put in its place. It runs the show....period!

Question: where were the big boosters when we hired Kiffin and Dooley? I always hear about the the big boosters controlling the show but where have they been with these other coaching hires.....absent, if you ask me

Lex is all Grude.

Here is what I cannot reconcile (other than the lack of public denial from Hart or Gruden himself):

Three different people have said that Hart met with local law enforcement in regards to security for whenever the hire is announced. That was confirmed by different people with friends in law enforcement on this board.

How many candidates that we are supposedly interviewing require "security".

Flame away.

All of them if there name is not Gruden but I would say the security would be for Hart and the campus because if it is not Gruden it will get out of control for a little while. This would be on Hart's head since he has made no effort to squash Gruden talk and completely remove his name from the equation. JMO

Admittedly, I haven't listened to Knoxville talk radio in over 25 years. But unless something is getting lost in the translation of how it's presented here, I feel sorry for listeners in that area. If your sports talk is consumed in rumor, speculation and chasing sources, you're missing alot. As much as I complain about the wild opinions and stunts pulled by the shows I listen to, at least they are talking about reality vs. spending all day around the rumor mill.

If Basilio's blog is correct, then UT lacks b@lls. It is as simple as that. A Gruden deal was there to be had, but they "just couldn't get it done" because "too much too much"? Let there be no doubt as to why Alabama is ruling college football. For their big $$$ people, too much WASN'T too much.

Whereas, our $$$ people are wimps. They got to the edge of the cliff, packed up their toys, and shrunk from the opportunity. We seriously act like a second class program right now. Can there be any doubt why we perform like one?

There is a huge step down from Gruden to Fisher, String, Gundy, etc.

Reading that made me angry.

We were told that Tennessee would go after a BIG NAME coach... I do not want to be a Debbie Downer... but we have been promised a BIG NAME WINNER.....that is all we have heard from way back in Oct. these threads began will Dooley was still coach....

I NOW By G** want the University of Tennessee to live up to expectations and refuse to settle for second tier

I think this is how all of the Vol Nation feels. The Admin has to understand this and has to be doing their part. I am sure they feel the heat at this point. Another bad hire and attedance, ticket sales, donations, student applications, and merchandise profits all drop!

They will have to take this into consideration...this hire is critical!

Exactly my point... Unfortunately for the nation as a whole this seems to be the standard for most every news outlet now, be it print, television or internet media. The "Agenda" takes precedence over the truth.... It's sad but that what we are dealing with now.

I am fine with if we get Gruden .for me only thing that makes since. If hart is not fired today must mean he is doing what money wants..money wants grudee imo

:rock:Funny how people get all caught up in how people talk in the microphone. If that's the case FIRE CHEEK NOW, he sounds like he is a ol bumbling scotch drunk!!

Mora would be a solid alternative to Gruden, though, but you have to lock him down in any contract.

When he was coaching the Falcons, he told KJR-AM he would take the University of Washington HC job even if the Falcons were in a playoff run. Plus he's only been at UCLA one year, he would have to pull a Kiffin to come here. Then, would you trust him to be loyal to us?

He doesn't like UF because they passed him over several times. In 2009 he said he wasn't given an HC opportunity due to racism. Maybe after several years on the staff they just didn't think he was the right guy for the job.

He doesn't recruit any better than anyone else has at UL.

I watched the video of his press conference. I don't know the context, but I have clearly seen people give much worse interviews. Even the best speaker, when put in the wrong situation or at the wrong time, can bumble around a bit.

I didn't see anything there that really concerns me, if the guy can do 2 things; 1) recruit, 2) win ball games.

He can do both.

Also, I think there is much to be said about his distaste for Florida. It would be nice to have a coach on the sidelines who wants nothing more than to beat the Gators. As a side note, this is why I like Fisher, he has beaten them 2 out of 3 times. That is rare in this day and age.

Disappointing...

Depends on your perspective imo. Out of those not named Gruden, he is arguably the best hire of those likely to come here. Have read Strong contacted UT the day Dooley was officially terminated making it very very likely he accepts if offered.

Thus, read the part of my post where I said you have to "lock him down in any contract."
