Not that Gruden is coming but that money could have been used to pay to offset the large $$$ figure Gruden wanted for his staff that UT did not want pay (if the deal went south because of assistant pay).

jmo but i think Gruden pussed out and used ridiculous demands to make UT say no, to appease his wife and not have the appearance that he used UT to leverage NFL money.

Written this morning around 7:30. If we got him, you would have to make sure he doesn't take off, without a huge penalty. He is my second choice because of name recognition in the South, and the way he turned around UCLA/recruiting.

I'm willing to bet that, based on Babyvol's last post, that he has been quietly assured by his sources that Gruden is still on. The way he hinted at the smokescreen not coming just from the media, but booster sources as well tells me that his source said, "look, we got in hot water because we were saying too much. I can't tell you what's going to happen, only that things are fine and we still have our guy. The negative info is BS."

Gruden and LaMonte work in secrecy, that's always been their MO, and there were too many people talking and they got spooked. It was shut the noise down or we're out. So, the noise has been shut down, the ball is in Gruden's court, and we will know soon enough his answer.

The longer this keeps dragging out, the more contradicting stories there are, the chances of Gruden keep climbing.

The Old Vols are pumped on him, and I've read (somewhere?) that some good recruits will come if he is named. That said, he ain't Gruden.

It's either Strong or Gruden in my opinion. Gundy and Fisher are not going anywhere. Mora is just trying to get a raise. Unless there is another surprise hire like Dooley, its between those two. Going from Gruden to Strong would be like Barney running Mayberry instead of Andy. Sorry for that example, just happened to be watching the show.

If Mora is hired, a lot of us will spend time following the U of Washington program so we can confirm when he pulls a Kiffin. I like the guy, but it would be a 'looking over our shoulder' mentality.

Even if you are correct and his answer was no, that doesn't mean he didn't want to be here. All signs pointed to him wanting to be here. For whatever reason it may not have worked out, but that doesn't mean it is accurate to say he didn't want to be here.

My thoughts exactly! I do not doubt the conviction and capability of the boosters. THey bleed orange just as much as we do, except they are the ones opening the checkbooks too...so we owe them some respect and gratitude. However if the man doesnt wanna play ball we cant force him.

Still love me some GRUDE though!

Dave Hart IMO should be fired. All this Gruden stuff is really disappointing. It was very obvious who the fan base wanted and that base is who really pays the bills.

I agree that Strong is overrated at the moment.

Can't fire dave hart until we see who he hires. If he hires Gruden, as I wholly expect, gotta give the man props.
