Official Jon Gruden Thread XIV

I'm willing to bet that, based on Babyvol's last post, that he has been quietly assured by his sources that Gruden is still on. The way he hinted at the smokescreen not coming just from the media, but booster sources as well tells me that his source said, "look, we got in hot water because we were saying too much. I can't tell you what's going to happen, only that things are fine and we still have our guy. The negative info is BS."

Gruden and LaMonte work in secrecy, that's always been their MO, and there were too many people talking and they got spooked. It was shut the noise down or we're out. So, the noise has been shut down, the ball is in Gruden's court, and we will know soon enough his answer.

The longer this keeps dragging out, the more contradicting stories there are, the chances of Gruden keep climbing.

What would be the point of the boosters smoke screening and then turn right back around and tell someone you know to be a blabber mouth on the internet that the boosters were just smoke screening everything is going to be alright.

It's either Strong or Gruden in my opinion. Gundy and Fisher are not going anywhere. Mora is just trying to get a raise. Unless there is another surprise hire like Dooley, its between those two. Going from Gruden to Strong would be like Barney running Mayberry instead of Andy. Sorry for that example, just happened to be watching the show.

I'm pretty sure Mora can't get a raise. Not sure of the details but I think there is an upper limit on his pay scale at UCLA. Got this from reading another thread ( recruiting, I think ). Could be wrong.

Doesn't matter who the fanbase wants if that candidate doesn't want the job. Outside one Chattanooga article with questionable sources (IMO), no one seems to think he wants to be here. I agree at this point.

Those sources weren't questionable. Trust me, they were legit.

In the end no he didn't. He contacted assistants to gauge what sort of package he would need if he decided to come here imo. A lot of unanswered questions, but the only one I care about is "Are you UT's next HC" and for me the answer is a certain no.

Ok time for me to head out again for the day, just wanted to say hey to a couple this morning and made the mistake of answering a question lol. I wont piss on your parade anymore, its just amazing how many people still believe this is some sort of grassy knoll cover up.

I based my beliefs on Gruden on tangible info, much of it incorrect. I am only stating an educated opinion here.

IMO Unless your name is Dave Hart you probably in the dark on what is really going on.

My guess is he also told Babyvol to shut up. Notice that he said, "this is my last post till the end of the week." I could be wrong, but I think his source dropped enough hints to let him be confident again

You guys are a bunch of girls. I'm not wavering. I still think we get Gruden.

Liked your post.

Some people obviously don't handle adversity very well, sort of like our team late in the game against Florida this year. (Well, it don't look easy anymore boys, let's just give up. Who's with me?)

You might be right. I haven't done any research on Mora. Solid coach imo, but like someone said earlier we will just be looking over our shoulder in relation to UW.

Gruden has always been my number 1 choice but out of the coaches we are hearing about now I would go with Jim mora jr. Ucla.

Mora,Jr.isn't on my list but I could get behind that hire..He is having a great year at UCLA,but I don't think he would leave after a year plus he's a west coast guy.

Define what you mean by, "URBAN legend."

I mean a story that has been told and retold so many times it is recognized as truth by many. That's the only way I can correlate in my own mind anyone still thinking he is coming, or that somehow every big booster wanted him and Hart nixed it. I also think there are $100k boosters that put too large a value on their opinion when the $1m club make most of the decisions.

It should tell people something that Jeremy Foley (Florida AD, one of the best in the business) saw Strong up close and passed on him.

My opinion exactly. I don't want Strong. The main reason is looking at his staff at Louisville. Strong would probably have some success recruiting here. He would be a decent motivator, but I don't have any confidence he could go toe to toe across the sidelines with Saban, Muschamp, Richt, Spurrier, Sumlin, and even Franklin.

It's not just about the head coach, it's also his staff, and looking at his staff at Louisville, that looks worse than we have now. It would take some hard convincing staff wise for me to want Strong.

Personally, there are very few coaches I would look at over Fulmer. I hate Fulmer himself, but his staff would be second best only to Gruden with the TN guys he'd have. That's what we need right now.

Gruden has zero reason to talk to Tennessee other than to pursue genuine interest in the job.

If he wanted an NFL job, there will be plenty of opportunities coming up that he can pit against one another to drive up his price. These Tennessee dealings won't have any material impact on his final pay should he decide to go to the NFL.

I also don't buy the argument that he's doing it to stroke his ego/increase his marketability. The guy has consistently praised UT over the years, far before this whole coaching opportunity arose. If he wanted to use a school for ego/market-pumping, we would've seen a lot more publicity around the Arkansas attempt. Not only were they out of the gate first, but he has nothing to lose by playing them.
